This remodel was designed to celebrate the original use of the structure, focusing on a 1930’s automobile theme. The design features ample storage without overbearing wall cabinets and also, vintage looking appliances. The homeowner wanted to remove the soffit and rework the supply and return air to better balance the temperature in the space. To do so, the entire space was reinsulated with closed cell insulation to provide the best insulation for our cold winters and hot summers. The homeowner opted for a custom artisan hood paired with metal open shelves to tie into the industrial era of the original space from the 1930s. The Matte Black with Bronze accents paired with vintage hardware on the range also picks up on the details of the Classic cars once parked in this coach house. The silkscreen marble tiles appear to be wallpaper yet is both heat resistant and effective for these aspiring chefs The enlarged island now can seat four and houses a larger sink with trash bins that open with a tap of the knee. As per the client’s request, the refrigerator now blends into the cabinetry appearing more like the tall cabinets on the south wall than an appliance. The new kitchen is not only stunning but practical as it has double the storage or the old kitchen without lining the room with cabinetry.

Paneled walls in Iceberg 2122-50 reflect in the mirrored flecks of the Silestone® White Platinum backsplash while the high-arching Polished Chrome faucet accentuates the kitchen's effortless beauty. A classic, creamy vintage-style sink and refreshed antiques add an eclectic allure to the otherwise simple aesthetic.

Tthe space was opened up to provide generous amounts of light, and wall-to-wall windows and doors were added to create one great dining experience and to allow the outside beauty to come inside. Eyes are immediately drawn to the expansive kitchen island. The custom island was painted a vintage grey with red undertones and distressed to create the perfect look. Throughout the kitchen the custom cabinets and drawers, made by Trademark Wood Products, were painted a soft, warm white. The ends of the island were custom set at the exact height for our homeowner who enjoys baking. The decision to keep the granite honed countertops lighter on the perimeter was made in order to keep the island as a bold statement. Along the outer custom wall of cabinetry incorporated a stylish and functional prep kitchen allowed our homeowners, who also love to entertain, a more useful and expansive space. After doubling the size of our homeowner’s preceding kitchen and adding custom features, baking, entertaining, or a casual night will never be the same as they overlook the backyard views of Minnehaha Creek. When our clients approached us about remodeling their home, their goal was clear: transform a traditionally styled interior into a clean-lined, contemporary space that truly reflected who they are today. The home originally featured dark wood floors, heavy moldings, and glazed cabinetry—hallmarks of a more traditional design. Our mission was to reimagine it entirely with modern sensibility, warmth, and purpose. One of the most rewarding aspects of this project was creating harmony throughout the home—from the kitchen to the family room, dining area, office, and even a new basement kitchen. We selected cabinetry finishes and styles that tied the spaces together while allowing each room to maintain its own personality.
