One Hyde Park in London is an architectural phenomenon and residential complex whose beauty, luxury and service merge in an exclusive way - making it one of the wealthiest and most secretive residential apartment buildings in the world. The collaboration between leading architects, designers, artists and hoteliers ensures that One Hyde Park delivers ultimate perfection and a unique experience on every level. The 90 apartments in the building are finished with WOCA High Solid Master Oil with Patina Discs. Roughly half of the floors in the exclusive apartments are engineered natural oak wood and the other half are deep fired oak wood.

This new home, situated in Cowaramup, Margaret River, posed a number of challenges, ranging from a sloping block, mandatory design guidelines, and bush fire attack levels. The brief was to achieve a solar passive home, not too far from the norm, in order to maintain a realistic budget. The house has achieved an 8.5 star energy efficiency rating without requiring the use of any non-standard glazing. It uses eave shading, breezeways, casement windows and ceiling fans for cooling in summer; and north-facing glass, a concrete slab and wood fire for heating in winter. Other green features include rainwater harvesting, grey water recycling and solar power. Zero VOCs products have been used on the timber bench tops, concrete floors and rendered masonry walls to ensure the occupants avoid contact with any unnecessary chemicals in the home.

Interactive Construction’s second Passive House shows that it is possible to achieve this high level of energy efficiency in even the tightest of lots. This build challenged the common assumption that you need a lot of south facing windows to achieve the Passive House certification. The relatively small solar gains from the limited southern exposure was made up for with an extremely tight air-barrier, a top of the line HRV, and higher R-values of insulation. To achieve the best indoor air quality, low-VOC products were used in the finishes. Solid Maple flooring was used throughout the upper levels to create a beautiful look without the chemicals found in engineered flooring. Aging-in-place was key to the design, with a central elevator and accessible door sizes and shower access. Smart design can make homes for versatile over their lifespan which reduces the need for costly renovations in the future. Both the indoor and outdoor areas blend to create tranquil and calm-inspiring spaces. What the homeowners had to say: Each area works well for its purpose. The eco friendly architectural design will save 60% of the energy compared to a standard home. Sustainable features include recycled flooring, low VOC paints, LED lighting, low-e argon filled windows and evaporative cooling. Green elements include a live, edible green wall, high efficiency appliances and an active solar panel system. To reflect the sustainable nature of the home, a "green" recycled metal panel "cube" is the main feature. The small nonconforming site called for a compact footprint that includes a two car garage which also serves as a rooftop patio for the main living space. The main level is designed as an open floor plan and provides views of the downtown skyline. The upper level has a master suite and open loft. Mitsubishi Electric hired the fabulous Atlanta photographer Ron Hart to get some shots of their systems in situ- and he was kind enough to let me include a few of them here on Houzz! Here you see our open concept floor plan. The architect, Jordan, laid out where the cabinets should go in his original design, and then the cabinetmaker Ryan Mathern, my husband and I came up with the aesthetics. We chose Ecotop for the counters, walnut veneer and white no-VOC paint for the cabinetry, Hansgrohe fixtures throughout the house, and strand woven bamboo floors throughout the top level.
