"WoodForm Concrete® is a lightweight engineered composite that looks like wood and acts like stone. It will not split, crack, splinter, stain or rot. Multiple color choices, edge details, accessories and more make this material a must-have if you truly want the look of, “wood without the worry”. This revolutionary product enables wood to be used in areas that real wood would be impossible or impractical. This product has more than 50% recycled content, 0% waste in its production, it's lightweight and easy to transport, will last longer than wood and has a lower Embodied Energy in its production.

The classic modern design of this kitchen was planned for an active young family of four who uses the space as their central hub for gathering, eating and staying connected. Our goals were to create a beautiful and highly functional kitchen with an emphasis on cabinet organization, heated floors and incorporating a live edge slab countertop. We removed an existing bulky island and replaced it with a new island that while only 60 x 26 in size packs a powerful punch housing a baking center, trash/recycle center, microwave oven and cookbook storage. The island seemed the natural place for the gorgeous live edge slab coupled with vintage mercury glass light pendants that make for a truly stunning kitchen island. Polished carrara quartz perimeter counters pair beautifully with the watery blue-green glass backsplash tile. A message center conveniently located on a side panel of the refrigerator cabinet houses built in mailboxes, a family calendar and magnetic surface to display the children’s artwork. We are pleased to have met the family’s goals and that they love their kitchen. Design mission accomplished!

Dark vertical grain cabinetry adds height to this galley kitchen. The cleaning zone’s sink, dishwasher, and trash/recycling center line the exposed brick wall, while the opposite wall integrates a fridge, two ovens, and pantry. In between, the elongated white island features a cooktop, microwave drawer, and sleek stainless hood with ample room to prep or pull up a stool.

A PLACE TO GATHER
Location: Eagan, MN, USA
This family of five wanted an inviting space to gather with family and friends. Mom, the primary cook, wanted a large island with more organized storage – everything in its place – and a crisp white kitchen with the character of an older home.
Challenges:
Design an island that could accommodate this family of five for casual weeknight dinners.
Create more usable storage within the existing kitchen footprint.
Design a better transition between the upper cabinets on the 8-foot sink wall and the adjoining 9-foot cooktop wall.
Make room for more counter space around the cooktop. It was poorly lit, cluttered with small appliances and confined by the tall oven cabinet.
Solutions:
A large island, that seats 5 comfortably, replaced the small island and kitchen table. This allowed for more storage including cookbook shelves, a heavy-duty roll out shelf for the mixer, a 2-bin recycling center and a bread drawer.
Tall pantries with decorative grilles were placed between the kitchen and family room. These created ample storage and helped define each room, making each one feel larger, yet more intimate.
A space intentionally separates the upper cabinets on the sink wall from those on the cooktop wall. This created symmetry on the sink wall and made room for an appliance garage, which keeps the countertops uncluttered.
Moving the double ovens to the former pantry location made way for more usable counter space around the cooktop and a dramatic focal point with the hood, cabinets and marble backsplash.
Special Features:
Custom designed corbels and island legs lend character.
Gilt open lanterns, antiqued nickel grilles on the pantries, and the soft linen shade at the kitchen sink add personality and charm.
The unique bronze hardware with a living finish creates the patina of an older home.
A walnut island countertop adds the warmth and feel of a kitchen table.
This homeowner truly understood the idea of living with the patina of marble. Her grandmother’s marble-topped antique table inspired the Carrara countertops.
The result is a highly organized kitchen with a light, open feel that invites you to stay a while.

Sustainable design helps environmentally conscious clients update their house and simultaneously balance their own needs and desires with an eye to future buyers. Their intention was to have a fresh, new and thoughtful design, adding value to their home and eliminating any additional negative environmental impact. Their concerns were to reduce waste and eliminate impact on landfills by reclaiming, repurposing, reusing and updating all of their existing fine but very dated furniture and furnishings with a new and contemporary design. The project budget was informed by the prevailing real estate values in their neighborhood.

a global mix also includes a hanging basket chair – one of the few pieces she has kept from her furniture business in Indonesia.
The old wooden chairs were found at a recycling centre and had come out of a local church. The shelves at the back were to hold hymnals.

This brown & beige kitchen proves that beige doesn't have to be so ordinary. Mixing the two-tones in cabinetry, adds more depth to this otherwise narrow kitchen. The kitchen had originally been half this size, and a much narrower entry-way. With the help of an Astro Designer, walls were removed, and entry-points extended to make the kitchen larger. This allowed for a longer island that can be used for seating, as well as prep. The beige cabinetry is our Italian-made brand; Aster Cucine that has the unique design as oppose to a regular flat-slab. Overall, this kitchen keeps with a modern look using warm neutral colours.

Coffered Comfort
This elegant kitchen is packed with character, creating a vibrant and inviting space. The island is finished in a beautiful light blue green that adds the perfect accent to the space without overpowering the other features. The grey-beige perimeter cabinets bring warmth to the space while providing a neutral backdrop to the rest of the space. No details were missed to elevate this traditional kitchen, incorporating cove crown molding, decorative furniture toe kick, and a classic paneled hood fan are the icing on the cake of this space. The modern conveniences are seamlessly integrated into the space and include a generous farmhouse sink, induction cooktop, built in microwave, and double ovens. The full fridge and full freezer are recessed along one wall with a secondary sink conveniently close by at the end of the island. Further storage and accessories are included to make this kitchen ideal for an avid cook. A pull-out recycling center and compost bin is located near the sink while either side of the cooktop there is a spice and utensil pull out amid deep pot drawers providing easy access to much needed cooking equipment.
The open-concept kitchen is accentuated by a dramatic coffered ceiling; the beadboard inserts matching the cabinet colour and finished with white cove crown molding to perfectly compliment the cabinetry while celebrating the height of the space.

In the kitchen we created an oversized island that is home to a garbage and recycling center, beverage fridge, and the microwave, not to mention lots of storage! The back of the island makes a bold statement with a colourful floral wallpaper. We designed a custom plexiglass frame to protect the wallpaper from feet and knees.
