Small space living solutions are used throughout this contemporary 596 square foot tiny house. Adjustable height table in the entry area serves as both a coffee table for socializing and as a dining table for eating. Curved banquette is upholstered in outdoor fabric for durability and maximizes space with hidden storage underneath the seat. Kitchen island has a retractable countertop for additional seating while the living area conceals a work desk and media center behind sliding shoji screens. Calming tones of sand and deep ocean blue fill the tiny bedroom downstairs. Glowing bedside sconces utilize wall-mounting and swing arms to conserve bedside space and maximize flexibility.

Inspiration for a small modern brown one-story wood exterior home remodel in Seattle

Measuring just 450 square feet, this West Village pied-a-terre combines style, comfort and functionality. Clever storage can be found throughout the apartment. Many of the furnishings provide multiple functions: the dining table also offers additional counter space; the sofa becomes a guest bed, a bookcase encompasses a pull-out drawer to create a home office, and a wide hallway has been outfitted with drawers and cabinets to serve as a dressing area. This charming but tiny Cape Cod had a small 50's kitchen. By removing a few key walls, adding new flooring, cabinetry, counter tops and lighting, we were able to bring light beauty, and greater function into this lovely home.

The cabinetry for this project was MidContinent in the Towne door style in Maple wood with a White paint finish. We finished the top with 3cm Ornamental Light granite. The blue accented shower tile is from Glazzio tiles and the name is Astronomer's Light. The wood-look tile that was used on the floors and shower walls was customer supplied locally in Tampa.

Mary’s floor-through apartment was truly enchanting . . . except for the tiny kitchen she’d inherited. It lacked a dishwasher, counter space or any real storage, items that have all been addressed in the makeover. Now the kitchen is as cheerful and bright as the rest of the home.

I love the tile (and my octopus shower curtain). I haven't been entirely thrilled with the tub, which is made by Sterling. It's chipped easily and it stained when I left a shaving cream can on it for a day or two (has a tiny orange rust stain I can't get out). I also found it impossible to clean at first, but I now use Chlorox bathroom cleaner (as recommended for Vikrell material by the manufacturer Sterling) and it has worked really well. I was trying to use natural cleaning solutions (like baking soda and vinegar) and had zero luck. The tub is set well and doesn't flex or make weird noises, but the material is definitely not as durable as I would have hoped and it scratches pretty easily. However, this tub cost me maybe 30% of any other model I was looking at and is so much easier to install due to its light weight. Overall, it has worked for me. Photos © Kari Post

I was pretty happy when I saw these black windows going in. Just cleans up the look so much. I used to be a big fan of white windows and years of my wife mocking me and telling me black was the only way to go finally must have sunk in. A ton of my design preferences have come from her over the years. I think we have combined both of our favorites into one. It's been a long road with a LOT of changing ideas to get to this point of our design methods. Massive change and then now just a little changing and tweaking. Seems like always veering toward more modern lines and minimalism and simplicity while getting more rustic at the same time. My dad would have been proud. He always called himself a chainsaw carpenter. His style was a little more rustic than the current NB palette but its weird how we keep moving more in that direction.

Toilet was in another room, the bathroom was really tiny. So we opened the wall between the 2 rooms and gain some more space in 2 bedroom closets in the back, where the bathtub lies now. Finally, a good size bathroom for this family of four, they are really happy now !
