The grey trend has evolved in the last twelve months. Nowadays browns, beige and a touch of grey are in demand. Greige is the new buzzword. Heavier hand scraped or contoured products, the rage that started around 2005 has taken a back seat in most areas, while a softer wire brushed "ceruse effect" seen mostly on White Oak has been remarkably strong showing no effects of becoming “dated” like the others mentioned. An arch display custom wine rack CA (center) serves as the focal point of this wine room. The arch features a whittle board effect, imbuing it with a unique and eye-catching appearance. Our clients opted to use the arch display to showcase an art piece. The solid tabletop connected to the arch serves as a convenient area for decanting and sampling wines. Individual wine racks surround the arch display area. Above the arch is a horizontal storage opening for large format bottles. We installed the cooling unit at the top right section. The middle section consists of horizontal display rows, which pitch the bottles at an angle to keep the cork moist. At the bottom section, you can see the lattice diamond bins and more individual wine racks. Just finished up the vanity in the master bathroom of my house. It is made from wormy American Chestnut with walnut hinges, handles and pulls. I wanted something unique and wanted to make every piece on the vanity (except the top which is a stone top). Buying hinges and handles just didn’t seem right for a piece like this so I decided to make them myself from walnut. Time consuming and challenging, but worth it in the end. I wanted an old look for the hinges, like the hammered style strap hinges of the past. So on those, I whittled on them with a pocket knife to give them that rustic, handmade appearance. The drawer boxes were made with 3/4” wormy oak sides with 1/2” plywood bottoms. I also made the wood slides from oak. I took down all of this wood from an old house that a friend of mine had on his place, dating well back into the 1800’s. The home was filled with beautiful tongue and groove American chestnut walls and flooring, and I was fortunate enough to be able to salvage some for myself. The past lives on in my new home.
