Inspiration for a mid-sized victorian formal and enclosed medium tone wood floor and brown floor living room remodel in Dallas with white walls, a standard fireplace and a tile fireplace

CLIENT GOALS This spectacular Victorian was built in 1890 for Joseph Budde, an inventor, patent holder, and major manufacturer of the flush toilet. Through its more than 130-year life, this home evolved with the many incarnations of the Haight District. The most significant was the street modification that made way for the Haight Street railway line in the early 1920s. At that time, streets and sidewalks widened, causing the straight-line, two-story staircase to take a turn. In the 1920s, stucco and terrazzo were considered modern and low-maintenance materials and were often used to replace the handmade residential carpentry that would have graced this spectacular staircase. Sometime during the 1990s, the entire entry door assembly was removed and replaced with another “modern” solution. Our clients challenged Centoni to recreate the original staircase and entry. OUR DESIGN SOLUTION Through a partnership with local artisans and support from San Francisco Historical Planners, team Centoni sourced information from the public library that included original photographs, writings on Cranston and Keenan, and the history of the Haight. Though no specific photo has yet to be sourced, we are confident the design choices are in the spirit of the original and are based on remnants of the original porch discovered under the 1920s stucco. Through this journey, the staircase foundation was reengineered, the staircase designed and built, the original entry doors recreated, the stained glass transom created (including replication of the original hand-painted bird-theme rondels, many rotted decorated elements hand-carved, new and historic lighting installed, and a new iron handrail designed and fabricated.

Project: Palazzo Margherita Bernalda Restoration Elements used: Encaustic Tiles, Antique Limestone, antique stone fountain, antique stone fireplace. Discover the cuisine, wines and history of the Basilicata region at the luxurious Palazzo Margherita. Set in the village of Bernalda, the well-preserved villa is close to the region’s white-sand beaches and the famed Sassi caves. The property was recently renovated by the Coppola family with decorator Jacques Grange, imbuing its luxurious traditional interiors with modern style. Start each day of your stay with an included breakfast, then head out to read in the courtyard garden, lounge under an umbrella on the terrace by the pool or sip a mimosa at the al-fresco bar. Have dinner at one of the outdoor tables, then finish the evening in the media room. The property also has its own restaurant and bar, which are open to the public but separate from the house. Traditional architecture, lush gardens and a few modern furnishings give the villa the feel of a grand old estate brought back to life. In the media room, a vaulted ceiling with ornate moldings speaks to the home’s past, while striped wallpaper in neutral tones is a subtly contemporary touch. The eat-in kitchen has a dramatically arched Kronos stone ceiling and a long, welcoming table with bistro-style chairs. The nine suite-style bedrooms are each decorated with their own scheme and each have en-suite bathrooms, creating private retreats within the palazzo. There are three bedrooms with queen beds on the garden level; all three have garden access and one has a sitting area. Upstairs, there are six bedrooms with king beds, all of which have access to either a Juliet balcony, private balcony or furnished terrace. The transitional-style bathroom that beautifully blends historic Victorian elements with modern luxury. A sleek, freestanding soaking tub in a deep slate gray from Victoria & Albert sits under a large window. It features a classic floor-mounted polished nickel tub filler from House Of Rohl. To the left is a spacious walk-in shower enclosed in glass. It features a ceiling mounted rain showerhead and hand shower with sliding bar from House Of Rohl. Calacatta gold tile and mosaic covers the shower walls and floor from Renaissance Tile.

We met the design challenge of creating one large family-friendly space from the original front and back parlors of this 18th century Federal farmhouse, while still achieving a multi-purpose library/music room. The Farrow and Ball color Stiff key blue helped to unite the 2 spaces. Painting walls and woodwork alike in the space gave it optimum unity. The Old World Weaver's blue cotton damask , fabricated on both sofa and love seat, was positioned in a way that gave additional harmony to the room. Somewhat unexpected in this traditional home was the use of the caramel colored wilton area rug as well as the custom wrapped linen coffee table. They specialize in identifying a building’s missing elements and crafting designs that simultaneously encompass the large scale, master plan and the myriad details that make a home special. For this Winchester home, the vision included a variety of complementary projects that all came together into a single architectural composition. Starting with the exterior, the single-lane driveway was extended and a new carriage garage that was designed to blend with the overall context of the existing home. In addition to covered parking, this building also provides valuable new storage areas accessible via large, double doors that lead into a connected work area. For the interior of the house, new moldings on bay windows, window seats, and two paneled fireplaces with mantles dress up previously nondescript rooms. The family room was extended to the rear of the house and opened up with the addition of generously sized, wall-to-wall windows that served to brighten the space and blur the boundary between interior and exterior. The family room, with its intimate sitting area, cozy fireplace, and charming breakfast table (the best spot to enjoy a sunlit start to the day) has become one of the family’s favorite rooms, offering comfort and light throughout the day. In the kitchen, the layout was simplified and changes were made to allow more light into the rear of the home via a connected deck with elongated steps that lead to the yard and a blue-stone patio that’s perfect for entertaining smaller, more intimate groups. From driveway to family room and back out into the yard, each detail in this beautiful design complements all the other concepts and details so that the entire plan comes together into a unified vision for a spectacular home. This dining room in Ladue was transformed from boring to fabulous. Starting with the faux finish on the ceiling and the double chandeliers over the table these elements give the room an expansive feel. The faux finish walls soften the lines of the room. The draperies are show stoppers . Embellished with cording and crystals.the pennants end with a fluer dis las tassel at the point of the velvet shaped accent rim. Causal dining at its European best!
