We built a custom home which requires a great team and a LOT of decisions. The end result is unbelievable and there is a clear MVP of the team: Betsy. We interviewed half a dozen designers. Betsy and her team helped us re-do our family room, primary bedroom, and eat-in area of our kitchen and we couldn’t be happier with the end result! We had lots of requirements for each space such as dog friendly fabrics, black out draperies, custom bookshelf and new fireplace in the bedroom. I first saw Betsy's projects on Houzz and loved the variety of styles and looks she had achieved. I had contacted another designer who was steering me to her own style, but when I talked to Betsy, she assured me that my personal style would be followed. When I met Betsy I felt an instant connection and hired her on the spot. I have been thrilled with my decision and how the house has turned out. At every step of the way, Betsy was able to guide me to the right decision, taking into account my taste, my budget, and dealing with the supply chain issues. Betsy and her team were amazing to work with! I completed an extensive reno of a 3 BR condo, including splitting a jack/jill bathroom into two, and furnishing the majority of the space. Betsy and her staff are so warm and welcome. They listened to what I was looking for, showed me just the right amount of options- not too much to overwhelm me, but enough to give me choices. Betsy helped us throughout the process of renovating our Newton home to accommodate an elderly parent in a basement suite with new bathroom, bedroom, laundry and media room. Betsy and her staff have worked on our recent project, a complete renovation of our beach house on Cape Cod. It is the second large scale project that we have enlisted her as our design specialist. I hired Betsy to help with redecorating my foyer and converting an upstairs bedroom into a home office. Betsy was incredibly professional and easy to work with. She did a great job of listening to my interests and also kept the projects on schedule. The foyer project involved designing a custom shelving unit for artwork and sculptures I wanted to display. I could never have come up with this solution but the end result is really great! We will definitely be using her for any future design projects we have.

I hired Betsy to help me with a powder room and am incredibly glad I did. Her years of experience, outstanding knowledge of products, and great relationships with stores that source products were all apparent and invaluable. I had downsized, moved into my first condo and decided that I wanted a well appointed living space that I would be proud to share with my friends. Betsy and Dayna understood my goal and listened to my minimal instructions. "I have no idea what I want. I need you to present me with your ideas on what will make this living space beautiful." From the moment you enter my condo, the alcove to the right says elegance. I was provided multiple choices for every piece of furniture but ended up settling on everyone of their recommendation. I am in a wheelchair which was taken into account when the choice of rugs were presented. I not only have a beautiful rug but a rug that will last the the test of time from the abuse of a heavy wheelchair. It is great living in such a well appointed condo!!!

This project was our first major renovation after twenty nine years in our house. Betsy transformed our awkward and disjointed kitchen into a great cooking and entertaining space that connects perfectly with our dining and living rooms. Betsy’s keen focus on function and aesthetics made all of the difference during both the design and build phases of our project. Changes of inches here and there, recommendations on moldings, and recommendations on fixtures and other design details were the difference between a non-descript kitchen and one with beautiful details and finishes. Betsy’s participation in the building process was also invaluable. She identified early construction errors that averted major problems as the project progressed. She also worked hard to understand our tastes and was extremely efficient in presenting fixture and color options that made the selection process easier and less time consuming. It’s clichéd to say, but we couldn’t have done it without her!

For six years we did a summer rental on Cape Cod. Every year we said "if this ever comes on the market we have to try to buy it, it could be our dream house. We bought it knowing that it had not been updated since 1980 and the three bathrooms and kitchen looked it. We needed help and Betsy Bassett and her team came to the rescue. With a fresh set of eyes and great sensibilities she had the vision to help us open up a wall in the kitchen, work on color palettes and furniture styles throughout the house, including three bedrooms, all with a sense of the budget we had to work within. One of her special talents was in helping design the kitchen cabinets and appliances, so that it functions and looks amazing. Her idea of taking out the wall created great sight lines and a new sense of space. It meant a lot to us that Betsy was a great listener and could integrate our ideas and yet feel comfortable in giving us advice that we never would have thought of based on her experience. The project was finished in the Summer of 2018 and came in within budget. It is such a pleasure to be there and we feel that Betsy and her staff were a major part of the success. I've had the pleasure of working with Betsy Bassett Interiors. We bought a new home and didn't know where to begin. Upon meeting Betsy, she quickly understood my aesthetic and was able to helped us put together rooms that were beautiful and functional. This included sourcing furniture/light/accessories, coordinating trades people (electrician, carpenter for built-ins, etc) and making sure everything turned out perfect. When my husband was ready to create an office out of one of our spare rooms a few months later, the only designer he trusted to work with was Betsy. Our office turned out beautifully. Betsy has amazing taste and a great eye for putting things together. We have recommended her to many of our friends and would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone.

We cannot say enough about our experience working with Betsy Bassett. Our current project involved updating a tired condo with excellent bones into the beautiful residence that it was meant to be. I have worked with Betsy on several projects. The first involved her help with overall space design issues and interior decoration during a renovation of our Back Bay apartment. Thanks to Houzz we had the good fortune of contacting Betsy in early 2016 to help us with our 1930’s Royal Barry Wills Cape we purchased a year earlier. At the time, we were first time homebuyers with an energetic 4yr old, two cats, and a dog on the way! Though we had dabbled in home decoration in our twenties, we were now too busy and tired to even contemplate wall color options. We chose Betsy based on her design style sensibility (well represented in her website) and her glowing customer reviews in Houzz. Our challenge was to design our unfurnished dining room, foyer, powder room, and living room, in a style that spoke to our design sensibility - Old Hollywood/Art Deco. As other reviewers have stated, Betsy delivered above and beyond our expectations. She truly listened to our needs, our aesthetic preferences, and helped us filter and edit choices making the design process stress-free. Along the way we learned from her about quality furniture, professional millwork, impeccable wall paper, and custom drapes. We got to know her impressive list of contractors, carpenters, electricians, wall paper installers, and seamstresses. Betsy provided both exterior and interior design services for a two level addition to our house. The entire upper level was a master bathroom. We had architectural prints that Betsy optimized in terms of layout of major fixtures, which turned out to be crucial for functionality. Betsy also helped significantly with recommending furnishings and lighting for the bathroom and downstairs. Overall it was a wonderful experience and we'd use her again without blinking an eye! It is also important to mention that she worked well with the contractor and more generally was a pleasure to work with.

We found Betsy via Houzz, and are ecstatic that we did. We not only got Betsy, but we got one of her go-to building contractors, a fantastic guy who knows his stuff and whose crews do quality high-end work. The basement remodel came out beautifully. It's now a pleasure to go downstairs. It makes us happy. Our job was to remodel 900 sq ft of walkout basement (rec room, bedroom, bathroom) and to design/finish another 500 sq ft room of, at the time, unfinished space. We have a son in the 9th grade, and we wanted to create a get-away space that he and his friends would enjoy (and, when the coast is clear, my wife and I, as well!). We also wanted the remodeled bedroom to be for our son should he decide his present bedroom is too close to ours, or for guests, or possibly as a little vacation space away from our second floor bedroom. The bedroom and full bath were cramped and tired. The rec room was a utilitarian 15' x 25' space with two sets of walk-out glass sliding doors opposite a wall of shallow bookshelves surrounding a fireplace and a big TV wedged in the corner. The unfinished space was a 1957 anachronism of concrete, electrical wires and willy-nilly overhead pipes. We first contacted Betsy in October 2014. The project began in late January 2015 and completed in June/July of 2015. Here is what we found in working with Betsy: o She is really easy to work with - professional, but with an easy, friendly manner o She listens and asks great questions: we knew sort-of what we wanted with regard to configuration and style. Betsy did a great job of turning our ideas into a concrete picture. o She has great instincts for the big design picture. The rec room had a fireplace as a focal point. But we also wanted to use the room for watching movies on a big TV. But we didn't want the TV over the fireplace or, as she said, for the TV and the fireplace to compete as focal points. Further, the ceiling height was low. Originally, we assumed we would keep the fireplace mantle, which, she pointed out, accentuated the 82" low ceiling. She suggested a more modern design to give the room an illusion of more height. And, despite our initial intent to keep the glass sliding doors, she persisted, always nicely, to suggest replacing them with two sets of double windows. She explained that would give the room a cozier feel and provide more wall space for furniture. We agreed, and are so glad she kept at it and convinced us. Same thing was true with the bedroom and bathroom - she immediately suggested stealing the entire walk-in closet space to expand the bathroom. She said take some space from the unfinished part of the basement for a new closet. It seems obvious in retrospect, but wasn't at the time. Yes, it did add some cost to the project, but it was the right thing to do. o She communicates her ideas really well: why something works or doesn't work. And she listened to our ideas and clearly laid out what the pros and cons were as well as her opinion. o She has good taste: for the bathroom, she gave us samples or pictures of tiles and vanities and mirrors and wall lights and wall colors, etc. The bathroom came out beautifully as a result. For the rec room, she suggested a beautiful area rug that matches the elegant, but relaxed character of the room. o She knows other good people: as I mentioned above, the contractor, who she works with a lot, is absolutely top-notch. In short, we were delighted and fortunate to work with Betsy.

Betsy is an enthusiastic and talented designer who is also a superb listener. Our project entailed downsizing from a 3,000+ square foot suburban home to a city condo half the size. Betsy did an incredible job creating a space that incorporated some of our existing 'traditional" pieces with new contemporary pieces that fit the smaller, modern space. Betsy was able to mix beauty with comfort and create spaces that fit our lifestyle. The final product was exactly as we had pictured it. Betsy is a lovely person and enjoyable to work with. She is efficient, knowledgeable and conscientious. We would highly recommend Betsy and would absolutely hire her for future projects!

Midway through a renovation, structural issues demanded unanticipated changes to our living room, leaving an extremely awkward shape there. We were referred to Betsy Bassett by another designer who felt Betsy's expertise in architectural solutions would help and we couldn't be more pleased with her results. Stepping in late in the project, she was efficient, knowledgeable, talented and fun. She worked seamlessly and graciously with our contractor, effectively using lighting and a modified bookshelf design to present a room which feels like it was meant to be structured this way. Betsy also was able to find furnishing options and fabrics which met my husband's very traditional taste and my more transitional leanings. We highly recommend her, and we will be using her again to help "fix" other areas we didn't know were broken.

Betsy has a knack for transforming a "less than ideal" room into the room you really want. As part of our master bath renovation, we wanted a functional two person vanity. Unfortunately we had limited space and the extra challenge of an awkwardly placed window (which couldn't be moved due to a brick exterior). Betsy's overall bath design was lovely - but her skills really showed when she (1) designed a custom vanity with a double size trough sink that made excellent use of the space we had; and (2) eliminated the negative impact of the window by designing a custom mirror and wrapping the window frame in the same marble which covers the window/mirror wall behind the vanity. We wouldn't change a thing - thanks Betsy!

Betsy Bassett assisted us with the renovation of our master bath and powder room. Her creativity and attention to detail provided us with an end result which we absolutely love! We thoroughly enjoyed working with her and look forward to the next project!

When we bought our house, we quickly overhauled the very dated kitchen. Twenty years later, the room was ready for another makeover. We wanted to get rid of the two dog crates (which did double duty as shoe storage units) and the kitchen table, all of which cluttered the space. We needed extra storage space and a comfy, unobtrusive place for our dogs to sleep. It occurred to us that the underutilized farmers porch could be replaced with a mud room, but we had no idea how to realize all of these goals. Our budget kept us from gutting the entire kitchen. Betsy engaged us at every turn, offering expert advice on the most important decisions to the most mundane. She knew the best length for our new peninsula, where to relocate the dishwasher, how to add cabinets above existing cabinets and make them look like they’d always been there. She designed all of the lighting and a custom built secretary to house recipe books, mail, etc. The most unique aspect of her design was creating a “doggie den” that was not only functional, but aesthetically pleasing. Betsy worked closely with our contractor, carefully monitoring the work, keeping us updated on the progress, and stepping in when something wasn’t being installed correctly. She has an eye for color, texture, light and space that was invaluable in conceiving and completing our project. Betsy’s love for her work is evident. She brought humor and enthusiasm in boatloads to the project. We are thrilled with the results. And so are our dogs, Maxie and Scout!

I had the pleasure of meeting Betsy yesterday. Not only is she talented, but she has great warmth and communication skills, and the ability to bring ideas together into a whole. We just had purchased a new home and I was feeling completely overwhelmed with the task of purchasing furniture on a budget which I could be confident in liking a few years from now. I knew she was busy, but she accommodated my need for a consultation quickly, "saying I just heard it in your voice that you needed help". By the time she left, she had helped me to break down the design into manageable parts, and suddenly I went from dreading the decisions, to complete excitement about what might be possible to do- starting with some basics I already had. I would hire her again in a heartbeat.

I can't say enough about what a pleasure it was to work with Betsy Bassett. We had just finished a home renovation, and only knew what we wanted the house to "feel" like. Betsy came highly recommended, and as soon as we met her we knew she was the one. She asked all the right questions, listened patiently, and "got" us very quickly. Betsy then helped us create a beautiful home with the perfect balance of elegance and comfort. She is a true professional, and her ability to not only envision a final product, but to do so with such a gorgeous design aesthetic revealed to us what a talent she really is. Betsy has a "can do" attitude, and you feel completely heard when working with her. She did everything from designing pieces of furniture to tracking down an artist that I had admired in passing. She has excellent follow-through, is efficient with her time, and is conscious of budget. I honestly can't say enough about her. She continued to amaze us with her design vision and resourcefulness throughout the project. We are absolutely thrilled with the results. She is the total package - a highly talented designer with the personality of a trusted friend. Highly recommend.

Betsy Basset combines professional knowledge and experience in interior design with a respect for and sensitivity to clients tastes, lifestyle, and budget. She draws on a variety of vendors and sources, including high end "to-the trade" suppliers, retail consumer establishments, and individual artisans and craftspeople. She pays attention to detail, and can be counted on to meet budget and deadline commitments. She is patient, responsive, and unpretentious, and a pleasure to work with. We worked together over a period of a year or more on a variety of projects in my home, and I continue to count her as trusted advisor. I will be using her services again.

Betsy is an incredible designer. She listens very carefully to her clients taste and lifestyle needs and incorporates that into her incredible creative vision. Where others see obstacles, Betsy finds solutions that are budget conscious and beautiful. Although she is not an architect, she designed a renovation project that solved a myriad of problems without requiring the massive renovation suggested by several contractors. She is a pleasure to be around and has a wonderful positive attitude. My contractor, the subcontractors and our vendors all enjoy working with her as well because she is professional, conscientious, thorough and always well informed. Having encountered other designers over the years who were either pushy - in the sense that they were not budget sensitive or that they wanted my home to reflect their taste -- I can honestly say Betsy is a breath of fresh air. She has made my house into a home that I love, that reflects my and my husband's aesthetic sensibilities. I anxiously await the opportunity to work with her again.
