We have worked with Peter of Bespoke Architecture on various projects over the course of ten years. from his brilliant, clean solutions for a small 400 square-foot one-bedroom to his elegant sense and attention to detail for renovations of a 5000 square-foot brownstone, peter has always been a great, calm and innovative problem solver with a keen sense of appropriate design. Peter Holtzman, principle architect for our kitchen remodel, was creative, knowledgeable, attentive, efficient and always ready to address unexpected complications. He is extremely knowledgable about building structures and design, and consistency suggests multiple solutions to complex problems. He is very responsive and an excellent communicator. He provided excellent ideas, always attentive to budget constraints and concerns, and kept the process simple and painless. And, we worked from different cities for most of the project. Peter worked with us to add a balcony and stairs and open up the back of a townhouse with more glass in Harlem. He managed the project from beginning to end, through landmarks approvals, permitting, supervising the contractor and signing off on the completed job. In a couple of instances, Peter came up with exceptionally creative ideas (how to hang the window boxes on the outside of the balcony railing; how to maximize storage in the renovated master bedroom). It came out beautifully and the inevitable unexpected problems were handled calmly and professionally. Peter is a steady hand to guide any project and I would recommend him without hesitation.

I was nervous because this was the first time I’d used an architect, fearing I’d be taken advantage of. After researching, conferring with others I felt comfortable with my decision to use his services. Peter provided an architectural rendering of the job, which entailed moving the entire kitchen from one floor level to another; he also served as the expediter on this job, which proved to be an invaluable piece, as the construction contractor was dragging things along. Peter was also very patient and considerate after I asked for changes to the rendering, charging just a small fee. I am quite pleased with his work and would recommend him to anyone that is looking for a no nonsense, efficient architect.

Our project started with the need to replace a roof. Peter helped us add a beautiful front porch and deck and alter the roofline (by adding rakes at the gable ends). His suggestion to add the rakes added tremendously to the esthetics of the end result. He was incredibly diligent in developing the final drawings and quite flexible working with our contractor to make sure he built to the specs.

Brownstone gut renovation

Peter Holtzman of Bespoke Architecture is a unique combination of architect, pragmatist, and NYC building code guru. Working with him saved me a lot of time and money because he knows the Building Code well-enough that he designs things that will get approved by NYC. And - if you follow his advice - he makes a lot of recommendations for cost-effective approaches that don't just take into consideration building cost, but ongoing time and maintenance costs. He is more knowledgable about mechanical, plumbing and electric systems than most architects and so the contractors appreciated working with him. Also, he is reliable, smart, and an effective problem solver which made for smooth construction phase. All this and the building and the interiors look great!

Bespoke Architecture designed and supervised a gut bathroom renovation in Manhattan to replace a tub with a smooth floor shower. The age of the building required full replacement of plumbing to modern hardware and code. Peter Holtzman is incredibly bright, expertly navigated the city permitting, the co-op board's architect, the super, and our contractor during the pandemic through a small job that won't win awards or glory, but will let my mom stay in her apartment in dignity and style. Peter is a good communicator and was responsive to requests for input and intervention with the building.

Love working with Pete Holtzman - and have used him on many of my projects but the one in the photo is the first one that we worked on together as Peter also knows LPC.
