DBK Home is an interior design firm focusing on residential kitchens and bathrooms as well as whole home renovations. We pride ourselves on not only listening to our clients, but listening to the spaces we are working with as well to help pair together what our clients need and what the home can give to help create a space that maximizes functionality and really feels like home. Principal Designer, Krystle Pickens, has been in the design industry since 2012. Raised in Seattle, Krystle feels a particular responsibility to the environment, and tries to make decisions that are mindful of sustainability in all aspects of her work. Having taken courses in Sustainable Design and Environmental Science, prior to her design degree, her design passions are incorporating various elements of architecture and nature into the rooms she creates with her clients. Our Services: At DBK Home, we specialize in utilizing sustainable concepts in residential interiors, and happily assist our clients with any full room renovation, no matter the scope of work or size of the room. Additionally, with our passion for the environment and the great outdoors, we love taking our projects outside and assisting you with your outdoor spaces to make them truly more livable so you can enjoy every aspect of your home, both inside and out! Together we will work to discover your overall style and specific needs to create a place looks beautiful and works beautifully too. As a leading expert in sustainable design, we focus on ways to reduce negative impacts on the environment every step of the way. Our overall goal in every project is to create a place that evokes the feelings of home to you. Our Process: The first step is to complete our inquiry form; Once we’ve reviewed your inquiry, we will schedule a call to make sure we are a good fit to work together. From there we schedule an on site consult, where we meet you on site and see the space(s) in question and go over the details of the room, the wants and needs for the new space and confirm a budget. From there we build out your project proposal and provide a mood board to share our vision for the space and how we would like to bring it together. Your proposal will include details of what is covered in the process, an appropriate time frame for the work and a payment schedule. We offer materials and design services only and our clients are always responsible for hiring their own contractor.

I have been fortunate enough to work with Krystle on two separate occasions. On both occasions it was the layout and design of my practices. She was able to transform and masterfully arrange a functional environment for my physical therapy practices. She captured my vision for the spaces better than I could have ever imagined. Whenever my patients come in they are very impressed and put at ease(which is exactly what I was going for) with a functional but homey environment. I am grateful to have found her and will be using her for my next home project as well.

We upgraded our powder room through Krystle. We found her extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the available products on the market. Although we had a fairly reasonable idea of what we wanted, she guided us expertly through the selection process taking into account all the variables such as technical specifications, cost, manufacturing quality etc. and she provided us with valuable alternatives whenever necessary. We will always look to Krystle in future as our first port of call for all our remodelling needs in the sure knowledge that her professionalism and helpfulness will ensure that our project is completed successfully and within budget. I have had the privilege of working with Krystle from both sides- as a hired contractor to photograph her work and also as a client. Because of this I have had the unique opportunity to observe her work, the way she treats other clients and responds to their unique needs, and the way she has handled my personal projects. As a contractor, I have been nothing but impressed by the way she works with her clients. Everyone I have met has developed a warm relationship with her, and this has allowed Krystle to make recommendations that speak to their motivations, personal style, and the way they want to see their space function, not just look. Her ability to craft a space to fit the individual needs and goals of each person has stood out to me, from a person with a very personalized kitchen with unique decor to those with more classic taste. As a client, Krystle has always worked to find affordable options and has been incredibly patient even as my husband and I don't agree! She is punctual and responsible, never letting the ball drop. Having her on our side made us feel we were getting the best deals and a space we could actually use.

We recently wrapped up our master bath renovation which we had contemplated, prepared for and looked forward to for several years. Krystle Pickens was certainly a wonderful resource to have in this project. She was patient, knowledgeable and a great listener when it came to understanding our overall vision; and although we had already very definite ideas about the major elements, she was able to give us sound advice with regards to style and design choices on many details to pull all of it together into a cohesive design. Additionally, we feel that her biggest contribution to the project came long before finalizing and focusing on design details. Our single biggest challenge in this renovation was our limited available space and the placement of tub, shower etc.. We had worked with several contractors and architects over a timespan of over two years to find the best solution to our somewhat intricate puzzle, but ultimately it was Krystle who was able to make key contributions that allowed us to move forward with her final layout. We would certainly recommend Krystle without hesitation to anyone embarking on similar projects!

It was a pleasure to work with Krystle. It was my 1st experience working with a designer. She helped me put together a very big renovation of my master bath. It was my 1st time attempting anything like that and Krystle gently guided me towards my the many choices of faucets mirrors and hardware. She even came by to give suggestions for window treatments in the bathroom. After that experience I hired her to help me with the very overwhelming freshening up of my entire open concept first floor (dining room, living room, kitchen). Paint, rugs, window treatments and lighting fixtures. She also gave me the confidence to trust in my instincts to make my own choices for decorating. Thanks Krystle!!!

When I first reached out to Krystle to help me remodel my kitchen, I wondered if I would turn out to be a "difficult" client. I showed up with a stack of Pinterest photos, a "vision," and a very specific idea of what I wanted to accomplish. (This project is now listed under the project photos for the Craftsman style kitchen) Krystle was immediately on board, both in expanding my ideas and in editing them, bringing a professional eye to my decisions and helping me to understand the choices and ramifications before me. She was polite, passionate, and always willing. Perhaps most importantly, she was familiar enough with various product lines and types that she was able to curate a selection of choices for me on every option - from the plumbing fixtures to the cabinet knobs and drawer pulls - which was crucial in avoiding decision fatigue. Before long, we had refined my "vision" into a real plan of action, including the re-use of about 75% of the existing structures. We zeroed in on what had to be replaced or re-built and what could be kept and given fresh life. Krystle brought an excellent sense of adventure to the project, and together we made some bold color and materials choices that paid off so well in the end that even the contractor was impressed. I really appreciated that can-do optimism more than I can say. It was important to me to re-use what we had whenever possible, both in terms of not wasting resources and for using the budget wisely, and we succeeded beyond our combined expectations. Krystle was never short of options on the best way to get the most impact for the dollars spent. Krystle does not do her own construction, but she was a great construction manager - always willing to take the time to explain processes to me, provide backup when issues arose, liaise with the contractor, and be on-site for the crucial moments such as countertop placement.

I really enjoyed spending time with Krystle to figure out the colors best suited to us and our bed and breakfast. The colors in all the rooms coordinate perfectly with each other makes moving decor items from room to room that much easier. Once the walls were painted (the grey was perfect!), she helped with furniture placement to continue making the rooms feel large and spacious. I will continue to seek Krystle's advise as we continue to move furniture around.

It was a pleasure working with Krystle on the design of our new kitchen. She was very knowledgeable of many different product lines and was able to steer us in the right direction when we weren't quite sure where to look or what to look for. She has a keen eye for detail and took our old, not very functional kitchen and turned it into a beautiful, highly functional space. We didn't enlarge the space, but with Krystle's design and very efficient use of the space, we were actually able to get more cabinetry and storage space than we had before while also making the space appear bigger. Krystle takes pride in her work and she has great interpersonal skills which makes her a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Krystle for any design work.
