Working with Zuzana was really excellent. She designed all our backyard, with kitchen island, flagstone, and landscape with plants. Zuzana suggested great ideas that we would not have come up with on our own. She is very professional and efficient. She is also an excellent listener and can modify plans according to her customer feedback. The drawings were delivered to us without any delays and were complete. They were modified only once to reflect our feedback. Zuzana was also reachable during construction which we really appreciated. She was always prompt at answering our questions and giving us additional suggestions. She was a pleasure to work with. We highly recommend her as a landscape designer and will hire her for future projects.

We found Zuzana through a local nursery, and we are so glad we did! She did a wonderful job designing our front lawn with so many thoughtful features and beautiful plants. Zuzana worked with us over about a 1-2 month period to scope, brainstorm and create a comprehensive hardscaping, landscaping, irrigation, and lighting design for our front and back yard this summer. We're in the middle of executing the project but I can say that from understanding our needs, wants, and likes, and translating them into a full design that we can hand over to a contractor/landscaper, Zuzana has been tremendous! You can tell she brings not just tons of experience, knowledge of plants that work well for your needs, materials and design, and also has an eye for what looks good for the aesthetic you're going for. It's worth noting all of the contractors we reached out to had worked with her designs and mentioned they never had any need for additional technical clarifications since her documentation was so thorough. We have plant enthusiasts in our home so we were proactive in providing some plant lists and inspo pictures (though this wasn't required to work with her!), and Zuzana enthusiastically and methodically worked with these to incorporate elements appropriately into the iterative drafts - at the same time, she was thoughtful and honest where certain things may not work as well in our yard, which was crucial! She came with great ideas, and was open to how we wanted something to change. Zuzana is professional, knowledgeable, and great to work with as a landscape designer!

She came by to view our backyard project and gave suggestions and explained various options. She then very quickly provided detailed designs and was very helpful throughout the process. Would definitely use her again.

You're looking for a landscape designer who thinks, ideates and comes up with solutions, while keenly listening to your wishes and accomodating them into perfectly executable plans. Talk to zuzana! She's simply brilliant at what she does. Designing a backyard is about creating a very personal space, and zuzana takes the time and effort to understand that from her clients to be able to translate that vision to reality. She's very punctual, professional, very approachable and very responsive on phone or email. She's not unduly expensive. She also helps with a list of contractors that can bring the plans to fruition. Zuzana is highly knowledgeable in her craft and can offer various options ( such as plant alternatives, if you don't really want what's on the plan). We highly recommend zuzana to anyone who needs a good landscaping design.

During the design process, Zuzana generated several iterations of the landscape plan, each version incorporated our comments and ideas. The final plan matched our goals and our desired aesthetics. Zuzana was a designer I cold called and reached out without any reference, but it turned out to be the best decision! She showed up to the site (always on time!) with such professionalism, experience and warmth, being open and honest about her professional advice and personal preferences, while fully respecting our aesthetics and budget. We worked with Zuzana to create a backyard design; we chose her after interviewing several landscape architects because she was easy to communicate with, had outlined a project process we liked and was competitively priced. Our front yard landscaping had become old and worn out. Zuzana redesigned the landscaping utilizing mounding, dry creek beds, new trees and plants, a smaller lawn area, landscape lighting, and drip irrigation (about 8000 sq ft of planting area). Zuzanna made excellent recommendations for plant and tree choices. She has extensive knowledge of trees and plants as well as what will work in our area and what will look good across all seasons. Zuzanna is easy to work with refining the end product with an interactive design process. She presented multiple options outlining pros and cons, adapting the design throughout the process to best fit our preferences. Just as importantly, she has good contacts and recommendations for landscape installation companies. We went with one of her recommendations. They did an excellent job at installation, and we are thrilled with the result. We would use Zuzanna again without reservation.

I had seen Zuzana's work at a house on my walk in my neighborhood. That garden had all the elements I was looking for in a new garden. I wanted a dry creek with plants that had low water requirements and low maintenance. I talked to the homeowners and they highly recommended Zuzana. I called her and she responded in a timely manner. She came out to see the property free off charge, and another time to measure my yard. I thought her fee was very reasonable. My plans were ready in less than 3 weeks. I had to contact her a few times during installation, and she gave her advice quickly at no extra charge.

Be careful before hiring her. She did a horrible job for designing my backyard. We only used a little bit of her design. The landscaper could not use it. Everything was wrong. It cost us a lot of money to fix everything for that small section where we used her design. We had to use our own design for the rest of the project.

My husband and I are thrilled that we found Hrano Design! Zuzana is an incredibly talented landscape designer and was an absolute pleasure to work with. She was very communicative and responsive to our questions and concerns throughout the entire design process. Her final designs were nothing short of beautiful, and she did an amazing job bringing our rough ideas to life and helping us refine the details. We've already sent our plans out to bid with a number of contractors, and several of them have expressed admiration for her artistic sense and attention to detail. We would 100% hire Zuzana again, and we're so thankful we had the opportunity to work with her.

We removed our swimming pool in 2019, and we decided that we really wanted our yard to be useful and beautiful. Zuzana was referred to us by a relative for a front and back yard landscaping project. Zuzana always kept active communications with us, and I was impressed by how quickly she responded to our email/questions. She was very nice, patient, and knowledgeable. The landscape design part was finished in May of this year, and the plan looked super impressive. We decided not to start the ground work until mid September, so the project is currently ongoing. Zuzana did a great job designing our garden. She listened carefully to what we had in mind, asked detailed questions about what we like and do not like in terms of the plant types, the looks of the garden and the colors. She then made a proposal and was very responsive to our feedback in terms of adjustments. I should also mention she proposed budget friendly options as well and tried to save money when possible. Overall we were very happy working with her and would recommend her.

I highly recommend working with Zuzana. She was very easy to work with, asked through questions when exploring our backyard, then came back with great ideas in her designs. Going back and forth on revisions was smooth, and having a very detailed design and plant list made it easy for our landscape contractors to install her design. We hired Zuzana after a referral from our contractor and landscaper. We had some unique requirements for an Asian-inspired landscape. Zuzanna was able after listening to us to come up with a unique design with some interesting plant selections we wouldn't have ever thought of on our own, and better yet when planted the landscape looks as good as what it was on paper.

My small front and back yards needed renovation. I wanted color and fullness in the front garden, and a small pond for birds/insects/such wildlife as we have in suburban Santa Clara, and removal of grass and some vegetable beds in the back. This entailed removing all the plants in the front and some in the back and pretty much starting over. I have no talent for design so I knew I needed a professional and I am so glad we found Zuzana. She understood what I was going for and came up with a lovely design that will be low maintenance have lots of color and contrast, and looks wonderful even though all the plants haven't had much time to grow and fill in. She offered to make changes if it turned out to be too expensive or there was anything we didn't like, but except for swapping out some plants for CA natives that I requested, and some plants that had to be changed up due to availability, the implementation is very close to her original design.. She gave me some recommendations for landscapers, one of which we ended up choosing (Kovax Landscaping) and they also did an exemplary job. The little pond is a smashing success, I already have some herbs in my raised beds, and people regularly stop to admire the new front yard and tell me how nice they think it looks. Zuzana was a pleasure to work with and I recommend her highly.

Zuzana was very professional, timely, and helpful throughout the process of redesigning our front yard. In our walk-through, she went around the neighborhood with us and brainstormed ideas, offering thoughtful suggestions that we had not thought of. We also knew nothing about plant types, so just gave general direction and colors, and Zuzana suggested plants based on her extensive knowledge and experience. Her design reflected exactly what we discussed, and she prepared two options to help us make a final decision. She was honest and transparent about her pricing and offered additional support with the design at no added cost. We are thrilled with the end result and can't wait for the plants to grow in, to get the full effect of the design!

We first got to know Zuzana when she worked with Julia Powers who did landscape design and implementation for us in 2011. She then, partially with our recommendation, did great work on a major comprehensive landscape project (hardscape and plantings) on her own for close friends, who were very pleased. This past year we decided to start exploring some changes to update the plantings and layout of our front and back yards. Zuzana naturally was the person to whom we turned. Because she knew us and our outside space, she was able to come up with some innovative designs and we quickly zeroed in on a design with which we were very comfortable. Unfortunately, some competing financial considerations have forced us to put the plans on hold for now but certainly we will go back to Zuzana once we are ready to re-engage with the landscaping upgrade project.

We wanted to eliminate our front lawn in favor of easy care, drought tolerant and natives. Hrano Design is very knowledgable about drought tolerant plants that also are interesting and colorful. She listened to our requests, worked within our budget and made use of many of the already established plants in our year. We moved some existing plants and added new ones which resulted in a beautiful design.
