Lewis Creek Builders

It's been 6 months living with our new expanded kitchen and we are as thrilled as the day we moved back into the space. Overall the experience was better than expected for a multi-month renovation - communication was always clear, we felt in control of decision-making, and we knew that Lewis Creek were truly our partners in making the end result something we'd love. There are pros and cons listed below (no scenario, especially a large reno is without a few cons): Project scope: Bump out a 16' section of the front of our ranch house to expand the kitchen with a new layout; change the roofline & vault ceiling over the new kitchen area; integrate basement stairs into the main living space by removing a doorway & taking a wall down to half-height; custom cherry woodwork on half-wall & beams across kitchen ceiling; new windows; refinish floors; new cabinets, countertop, stove, integrated microwave, lighting, etc Pros: - They were responsive and listened clearly to what we were trying to achieve. LCB offered suggestions/designs that flexed beyond our initial vision (we had a very detailed vision) which helped improve the final outcome beyond what we had originally imagined. - The build team (lead carpenter to apprentices) were all wonderful to have around (we lived/worked at home thru the whole project) - They were considerate of our experience - good dust protection, daily clean-ups to ensure our dog could safely walk thru the workspace, confirmed we were cool with music playing while they worked, etc - Any issues or mistakes (humans are human) were communicated realtime and were always made right - this extended to an issue with the countertop provider where LCB went to bat for us and we love the end result - Project management & invoices were always clear - questions I had were always answered promptly - The subs they work with are all great to work with, too - We finished up basically on time (maybe 2 weeks past the planned date) - We ended about 15-20% above the planned max budget, but this was mainly due to decisions we made along the way and it was always clear where we were in control of the costs, so I'm putting it in the Pro category - The team is clearly HAPPY to be at work and it shows - I overheard a lot of training/support in ways that made me confident in the work being done. There were also a number of women involved, which was awesome to see :) Cons: - I had to be explicit with the information we needed in order to make decisions on what to keep, cut, and how to balance the budget. That said, whenever I was clear on the exact information we needed, we always got it quickly and LCB supported our decisions fully - The budget doc with all of the line items was a monster in Excel shared in PDF - I had to create my own version of the key line items to track more functionally on our side, which is something many people may not want to do We would happily go back to LCB for our next project.

They were not professional as Chris made several threatening phone calls for us to pay for unwanted and overcharged services. We paid them $1000 deposit and asked them to quote on a remodel and gave them finished architectural plans in CAD to use. When they got back to us there was a bill for another $5k in design services for them to redraw our same plans which we did not want them to do. They never asked us if that was ok or for new plans they could work with. We did not work with them further but to avoid court had to pay them off.

Lewis Creek Builders did a fantastic job. We had our kitchen remodeled, which impacted the flow of our dinning room and living room. I had so much trepidation on starting this process from past updating experiences with other contractors. With such a large undertaking so many things could go wrong or not look like I expected or maybe people wouldn't be respectful. All that was totally washed away with your crew being patient with us, you guys brought your A game everyday to our house. The kitchen and everything is still working great for us. (All this during the pandemic also.)

I hired Lewis Creek to renovate an older home. I chose them despite the fact that they charged considerably more than other contractors because they guaranteed that they had a rigorous quality control policy and high standards for the work done by the contractors they employ. The first thing to go wrong was the installation of a bathroom vanity. Their own head carpenter glued the granite top of a brand new vanity on crooked and with an adhesive that they claimed made it impossible to remove the top and re-glue it. They insisted on ordering a whole new vanity, which failed to arrive. I ended up paying a skilled carpenter to fix it. The vanity looks like new, but Lewis Creek refused to refund the labor from the botched job. Next, the insulation contractor they hired to insulate my attic while I was on vacation came through the kitchen ceiling in two places and popped a can light out in addition to frying the perennial bed on the side of the house and leaving construction materials in the attic. Lewis Creek should have supervised the subcontractor, but clearly had not done so as they were unaware of the damage. I found it when I returned home from vacation. They did repair the ceiling and the light under warranty, but I suspect this is because they could kick the cost back to the insulation company, unlike the vanity situation which was their own head carpenter. There was a crack in the living room wall which needed to be repaired, and I asked them to diagnose the reason for the crack and remedy it in addition to patching, plastering, and painting the wall. They claimed that there was a lack of beam support in the attic which was causing the wall to crack and charged several thousand dollars to add extra beams in the attic. They also repaired the wall. I was told at the time by the person doing the work that they were, "99% sure that the lack of support was the problem." About a month after the work was finished the wall cracked again in the same place. They came out and fixed the wall and told me that it was taken care of. This work was done under warranty, and I assumed that they had not just re-plastered the wall and painted, but diagnosed and fixed whatever was causing the crack. The wall has re-cracked in the same spot for the third time, and now they admit that they never went to the trouble to verify the reason for the crack. The structural repair was an informed guess, they don't know what is wrong, and they have refused to refund the money for the structural work so that I can have a structural engineer properly evaluate the problem. Finally, Lewis Creek built wooden bookshelves in the house which are just over a year old and are now sagging in the middle. A new contractor has verified that the shelves are lacking the proper support. Once again they have refused to refund the money for the construction of the shelves. A report has been filed with The Better Business Bureau and they have failed to respond to the complaint.

2022 Project. One the 1st day we met Lewis Creek we knew they were the team for us. They quickly understood our vision to convert our residential home into an exquisite 4 bed ensuite B&B Inn. From their comprehensible ongoing budgetary planning tool to their daily team approach not only with us but with the vendors alike ensured each milestone was completed on time and without incident. Even though many of the material purchases presented challenges due to trucking issues their can-do attitude brought comfort and respect. Even now to this day they are still attentive to our questions and provide guidance to us whenever we reach out. Our hats are off to the Lewis Creek team...Bravo!

Our 30 year old skylight was leaking. Replacing it was out of the question because they don't even make them anymore, but fixing it was such a small job that I was having trouble finding anyone to even call me back. Lewis Creek Company got back to me right away, and set up a date and time. Chris was polite, careful, efficient, and finished the job in record time. We have had several heavy rainfalls since he was here and not the tiniest leak. Great work.

New owners and not impressed. Started two large projects in January and it’s August, punch list is still not done! We miss both Marks!

The Lewis Creek team gets rave reviews from us! We had a major renovation project and we couldnt be happier with the result. Aside from the stellar work they did and our satisfaction with the finished product there are several other factors that deserve mention, especially if you are considering a project. Their communication is top notch. How often do you hear of builders leaving timelines, expenses and such up in the air? Lewis Creek is the exact opposite, they scheduled weekly meetings to go over what has been done, what is projected to be done next, the timeline and expenses anticipated as well as any unforeseen issues that arose. Even before the project began they held detailed meetings to describe the design process, demolition and planned time course for the renovation. Another issue worth mentioning is their consideration. They made sure to clean up every day and they sectioned off the house to make sure that their comings and goings as well as equipment/materials delivery had as little impact as possible. It went as smoothly as one could hope. When the job was done, they didnt just disappear, they made sure to stay in touch and followed-up to ensure all the details were to our satisfaction. Our highest recommendation is that they are not only a good company but good people! Needless to say, we have recommended them to numerous people and will use them to complete any future projects.

My wife and I had been deliberating for some time about where we might want to focus our limited resources on improving the living space of our small house. An architect drew up a sketch of our house with a large 12x18 porch. We put it on our refrigerator and looked at it every day. After looking at their website, I decided to contact Lewis Creek Co. to see what it would take to make our drawing a reality. My inquiries were met by Mark, who was very professional and courteous. Mark and I got together to discuss our plan along with costs, timelines and strategies. After that meeting it was hard to imagine anyone else building my porch. Mark was awesome, super friendly and down to earth. In order to meet the realities of my budget we agreed that Lewis Creek would frame out the porch,roof and stairs, as well as securing the roof with Ice and Water Shield. I agreed to take over and finish the roof, trim and decking. This was perfect because I had some skills but attempting to do the whole project myself would have been very difficult or even dangerous. In addition, they opened up the possibility of having someone come back to assist me if I overestimated my abilities and needed some help. The project got started with the arrival of Mike and Rob--also great guys. They worked with a very deliberate pace and conducted themselves professionally at all times (my wife and 2 small children were home most of the time they worked). It was a pleasure to interact with them; they seemed extremely comfortable answering my questions. Both guys demonstrated a strong work ethic. This was a very positive experience.

We have had two excellent experiences with Lewis Creek Builders: one when they reinvented our kitchen, and one when they worked on our upstairs space. In both experiences, the team was friendly, professional, and hard working. I'd definitely give them a call for future projects.

We brought Mark in as a consultant on our challenging DIY 200 year-old house renovation project! We wanted to do things right, and were especially concerned with durability, energy efficiency, and indoor air quality. Mark Boudreau was the perfect fit for all of those areas of expertise. Mark is extremely knowledgeable and conscientious. He helped us choose the best materials and resources for our application, budget, skill level, and timeline. He gave us tips and guidance for proper installation. He also performed blower door tests at the end of our project and directed us to significant efficiency rebates. Finding someone with real world practical experience and also such broad knowledge is rare. Mark has done the work, and he has done the research too. There is no aspect of house construction/renovation that he is not experienced with and educated on. . Mark is also a really nice guy and a pleasure to work with. I would recommend Mark Boudreau and Lewis Creek company without hesitation.

Totally blown away by my experience with these guys. Not only is the finished project just absolutely gorgeous, but it came in under budget! Also, just a great crew - miss these guys! My project involved a ceiling vault, basement stairwell move, insulation, plumbing, electric, ductwork, among other things. I came in with a rough idea of what I wanted to accomplish, but from design to execution they far exceeded my unreasonably high expectations at every turn. Needless to say, they will be the first place I turn for any future work. Thanks, guys!

Our journey of changing our 1950's bungalow into a modern and energy efficient city dwelling was amazing and pleasant while working with Lewis Creek Company. From our initial meeting, to Mark architecturally redesigning our floor plan, to the final few hooks being placed, we enjoyed their expertise, communication, design, education of possibilities, and facing changes as they arise. In response to our dreams and merging them into reality, we came to the perfect place together. I also appreciated that we could be as little or as a lot involved in every step of the design and building process. Truly, a five-star company and team!

As clients we are meticulous, environmentally conscious, private/sensitive to people in our space, and somewhat prone to changing our minds! Lewis Creek delivered a five-star project, were respectful of us and our home, and were gracious and professional when we changed our minds. They offered intelligent options which balanced the needs of the project with environmental and cost considerations. Further, their weekly reporting system kept us well informed so we fully understood the cost implications of the choices we were making. Lewis Creek is terrific and we would hire them again without hesitation.

Lewis Creek completely renovated my 600 square foot apt., gutting and redoing the kitchen, replacing carpet with wood floors throughout, and replacing bathroom vanity and fixtures. They meet challenges head on and to me their best quality is transparency, with costs, billing, issues, etc. You will never be surprised by hidden costs: if something unexpected comes up that has a bearing on cost or timeline you will be the first to know, and they offer creative solutions/workarounds that are sensitive to your budget. I loved working with them as part of the team, sharing and developing ideas together. Very highly recommended!

We hired Lewis Creek Company to build a detached two-bay garage at our house -- they did a fantastic job! We had previously hired them to do an energy audit and some work on our wood stove chimney. We liked that the company is local, and employs a number of women in a profession that is traditionally male-dominated. We appreciated the time that Mark took to get to know us and help us through the visioning, design, execution, and follow-up stages. This was the first big construction project we have contracted for. Mark did a great job describing what to expect, and keeping in touch with us as the project progressed. Lewis Creek is working on my house as I write. We've been "living" with them in the house for about 4 months. We had an exterior porch and deck/stair addition, remodeled a basement to a play room, added a sunny room, a screen porch, and remodeled our kitchen and studio space. Beside being in total positive agreement with the reviews thus far, I can say Mark Boudreau and his company have lead me on a journey. Being supportive in so many ways guiding me through a vision that was both in my head (not so clear) and in my heart (more clear). I wanted to change the essence of how I felt in my home by bringing in some earthiness and character. This process was carried through by those who work at Lewis Creek, often working with me on impromptu decisions and plans, while guiding me with their expertise. And my husband, who is experienced in repairing damaged homes, says Lewis Creek is doing it right the first time. He worked with them as well and witnessed first hand how the carpenters addressed present issues or prevented future issues. They make sure the job is done to last. Their designer, Mark Couet, was ever present for either drawing up designs, working through ideas, or offering support where I called for it. Everyone is so professional, approachable, conscientious, and friendly. Thoroughly an enriching experience. We are headed into phase two of our project... an addition with a bedroom, bath and exercise room.

Major home renovation in Burlington's So. End. Project included moving staircase, opening downstairs, kitchen renovation, energy audit and instillation of efficient heating system, new bathrooms, and replacing vinyl siding with Hardy. It is the nature of construction projects that there are surprises; things don't always go as planned. I would give Lewis Creek the highest rating, with the understanding that any project has bumps along the way. It is how they handle these bumps that is most impressive. Communication and relationship building far exceeded my expectations. I love their willingness to educate throughout the process. This is empowering for the homeowner.

I hired Lewis Creek Company 5 years ago when I moved into a 2-story townhouse. They removed the popcorn ceiling on the first floor, installed crown molding and a large tile shower in the master bath. I have used Lewis Creek for a couple of projects. The first was some interior remodeling including a bathroom and front foyer and flooring for both (tile). They also subcontracted to an excellent wood floorer and recommended an excellent roofer. The second job was front and back porch installations. With both, work was timely and within projected estimates. The quality of the work was exemplary, and filled with suggestions regarding aesthethics and best choice of materials. This company has so much to offer, personable, pleasant people to work with, solid business ethics, with an eye to green if requested, detailed explanations and education if I asked. I will (and plan to to build a sauna ) hire them again.
