We recently sent the note below to Maurice Levitch. and thought others might find it useful: An Anniversary of sorts Maurice - it was pleasure to see you the other day, and it got Bobbye and me thinking about the work that Levitch Associates did for us in remodeling, and really in entirely rebuilding the bedroom and bathroom on the second floor of our hundred-plus year old house. We think of it as an anniversary because the work is twenty years old but, because of the expert craftsmanship, looks as if it was done yesterday. Beginning with Maurice’s truly inspired drawings, the team turned a little-used second floor enclosed sleeping porch into a vaulted ceiling main bedroom and en-suite tiled bathroom, with additional skylights bringing direct sunlight and borrowed light into both rooms and included finding space for an adjoining office/second bedroom. This bathroom is so beautiful and unusual that we still take guests on a walk through if they haven’t seen it before We live in these spaces every day, and every day they offer not just a unique sense of privacy, but an interior space that is an oasis of beauty and calm in an area of our home that had been little used before. The daily working teams that came to our house for the weeks of work needed to carry out a complex job, from top to bottom were careful, experienced, well-trained, well supervised, thoughtful and an all-around pleasure to have working on and in our house. Inevitable surprises that came up were handled quickly by people who were highly skilled at every element of the work. Watching them work, it was clear that every one of those craftsmen contributed to the highly professional outcome that we enjoy now as if still new. The mark of a good relationship. We worked with Maurice and his team at Levitch Associates on a major home construction project, including a full basement conversion (family room, bathroom, bedroom, and laundry room), a full kitchen remodel, and two additional bathroom remodels. We could not be happier with the level of attention, care, and detail they brought to every part of the project. Maurice is incredibly upstanding, honest, and genuinely easy to work with. He listened carefully, guided us through every step, and made the entire process far less stressful than we expected. While the project ultimately took longer than originally projected — which is not uncommon with renovations of this scope — the quality of the work and the overall experience more than made up for the delay. If we had to do it all over again, we would choose Maurice and his team again in a heartbeat. We are thrilled with the final result and highly recommend Levitch Associates to anyone seeking thoughtful design, quality craftsmanship, and a team you can really trust.

We had an excellent experience working with Maurice and his crew as we remodeled and combined our kitchen and dining room. The initial plans would have required expensive seismic upgrades (since we wanted so many windows), so their architects patiently reworked the plans with us to stay within our budget. We also enjoyed working on the design phase, with their staff sometimes coming to meet us when we selected cabinet woods, etc. The best part of the experience was their clarity and communication. The project start happened to coincide with our six-week trip to another country, so we avoided the demolition and initial construction. Every evening we got updates, both photos and construction details, via project planning software that keeps it all in one easy-to-access place. When they had questions we'd resolve them with Maurice either by email or for larger questions we set up Zooms. Change orders were minor and always reasonable. It was great this system was working for us because I got injured during the trip and was not allowed to fly for another 6 weeks, meaning the project was 98% complete when we returned! People were shocked we could get all this done while we were gone, but because they designed the plans, and because of their great communication, it really didn't matter at all that we were not on-location (in fact I think they were happy as we never complained about noise :-). One final thing to say is that Maurice is just such a nice person and went to great lengths to make sure we were happy with everything, we'd absolutely work with him again if we do more work on the house.

We are very pleased with every aspect of our new bathroom addition by Levitch Associates. Inside, it’s beautifully functional; outside, it blends seamlessly with the rest of our home—as though it's always been here. We truly appreciate the hard work and craftsmanship of the entire Levitch team for making this project a success. Levitch also managed replacement of galvanized piping and remaining knob and tube wiring throughout the house. The workers expertise and efficiency made the team a pleasure to work with. The design work by Levitch took our vague ideas and turned them into a well-thought-out project that perfectly suits our home. We couldn’t be happier with the final result.

My wife and I enthusiastically recommend Levitch Associates. We renovated our entire house and our experience was highly positive. Levitch’s design process took account of our needs and we were able to modify our plans to fit our budget. The construction phase began a bit late while we finalized our contract, but we re-occupied our home right on schedule. Before and during construction, costs were discussed openly and honestly — our project was completed at the agreed-upon price, and the few change orders we made were reasonably priced and initiated by us. Interim payments were clearly spelled out in advance and linked to specific construction milestones. Maurice Levitch, his staff and crew, and subcontractors were always friendly and accommodating and the construction site was kept clean. We were consulted at significant decision points and also felt involved in the myriad of minor construction details, per our choice. However, a great deal of work took place in the background and we never had to worry about sequencing all of the moving parts. We are confident that if clients prefer, they could choose to make fewer decisions. Everyone is supposed to hate home remodeling and it isn’t for the faint of heart, but we love the end result of our collaboration with Levitch. Our renovated home gives us pleasure every day and our visitors remark on how peaceful our home feels. We would use Levitch again in a heartbeat.

We felt fortunate to have worked with Maurice as we took the entire design build journey of our new addition and a kitchen remodel. We've met with several architects/contractors beforehand but correctly felt we would have a working long-term relationship with Maurice. The crew who worked on our bathroom, led by Vuk, was A+!! We are exceptionally happy with how our bathroom turned out and enjoying the steam bath daily. The process from start to finish was pleasant and the crew was very attentive. I recently had my kitchen remodeled and I could not thank the Levitch crew enough for their customer service, professionalism and craftmanship. I have a older and humble home that for years it was not providing good lighting for my aging vision. The walls not only blocked out the natural lights but also minimizing the useable space. I decided to partner with Levitch after much research online and talking to some contractor, real estates acquaintances. All have only good things to say about this company so I proceed to contact them with confidence. They did not let me down. The office walked me through each step and very transparent on the pricing. They did a wonderful transformation of my home with sky lights, modern island in kitchen , all are esthetically pleasing and most importantly, i get good lighting. Hooray!! I wanted to renovate my 1940s Berkeley bungalow and had no idea where to start. A friend who is a long time realtor in the East Bay told me that any house she shows that has been worked on by Levitch always looks fantastic and….everything works. I knew I needed a lot of help because I had never done anything like this before so I made an appointment with Maurice Levitch, the president/head architect/contractor of the company. The first time I met him I instantly liked him and felt totally comfortable. He walked into my little house, asked what I had in mind, listened to everything I said, and then took out a piece of paper and began to draw ideas. It was magic. The drawing he made on that first day was the backbone of the design that we used! Maurice guided me through the intimidating process which involved many chapters. To start with, they interacted with the city for me concerning all the permits. Thank goodness! They demolished a rotten deck and hot tub gazebo in the backyard, ripped my house down to studs, knocked out a wall and built an addition that includes a master bedroom with walk-in closet, ensuite master bathroom and a foyer that leads out onto a new deck with pergola in the backyard. They knocked up the ceilings, put in recessed lighting and solar tubes, constructed all new kitchen cabinets and bookshelves in the living room. The plumbing is all new, windows are all new, and the new addition has a heat pump. It is pretty much a new house but it retained the vintage feel that I love. When the work began I realized that I had to keep making decisions along the way and at the beginning Vuk Pavićević was my project manager. He was extremely helpful. Later on Chris Bazil took over as project manager and he became almost indispensable to me, checking to see if work was properly done and helping me with decisions. The actual construction lasted about nine months but has taken a year to iron out details. I could go on and on but I will finish by saying that I cannot recommend levitch Associates highly enough. The entire team at Levitch are all lovely people!

I bought a house in Kensington in August 2020. Inspectors' documents reported that extensive repair and replacement of major systems of the house were needed. In September 2020, over a 90 minute Facetime, I consulted with Maurice Levitch, the president, architect, and general contractor as to how best address the issues. He walked through the house I had just purchased; I was in my home on the East Coast which is where I then lived. During that Facetime we agreed on the major contours of the project. During the next two months, his staff and I refined what would be done. Project scope, cost, and expectations were completely transparent at all times. The project took place from September 2020 to April 2021. While the project was going on, I was in Washington, D.C. I never once visited the Kensington house. Levitch and I did the entire project over email and telephone. At the end of almost all days, pictures and a short report were posted on their ProCore website showing me what had been done that day. I found the whole process enjoyable and interesting. I found Maurice to be a first-rate architect and general contractor with a deep knowledge of design, building systems, environmental impact, materials, and product. He will offer alternatives so that you can stay within your budget (I did find I spent more than I intended to but that was because I wanted to expand the scope of the project or pursue alternatives I hadn't contemplated). I found his subcontractors to be first-rate as well and Maurice makes sure that their work is organized, efficient, and of the highest quality. Among other things done: --All windows, interior doors, and exterior doors replaced. --New HVAC system. --Electrical system replaced, new interior panel, outlets brought to code. --Plumbing issues remedied, an entire subfloor of a bathroom rebuilt. Exact match for a rare marble tile found for a new floor. --Wood floor repair. --All manner of Kensington animals removed from crawlspace and attic. Moisture barriers, crawlspace and attic insulation replaced. --Walls sanded, made uniform throughout house with skim-coat plastering and then painting. Old baseboard removed, new chosen and installed. --Closets gutted, expanded, outfitted with custom rods, panels, and underlit shelves --A gas-leaking 36" range in the kitchen removed. Replaced with a 30" induction range, involving carpentry, electrical and plumbing work. --Carpentry work in kitchen, old maple cabinet wood was reused or matched perfectly. --Mudded in light fixtures for art lighting and wall washing installed. Total project cost was more than $325,000. A daughter with an Oakland worked with Levitch on two projects (2018 - 2022). First project: structural work to prevent house from sinking and an addition of 2 bedrooms, a playroom, and 1 bathroom. Second project: total kitchen renovation involving re-architecting of entire main floor. Excellent work, lovely people!

Levitch Associates had a great team of professionals to work with on my project. I have to say that they were enjoyable to work with - everyone from Maurice, to project managers, to the tradespersons and subcontractors to the office staff. Levitch found creative ways to deal with issues unique to the project, and the result is a seamless restoration and improvement of an existing indoor and outdoor space. I will definitely look to Levitch for future projects and have referred them to others.

The Levitch team did a beautiful job at our house. We wanted floor-to-ceiling bookshelves around a gas fireplace and that we had already acquired. They studied the space, then quickly came up with an elegant design. They accommodated our schedule during the lock-down and installed everything while we were out of town for 10 days. We were very pleased with the result. The fireplace presented some subtle difficulties related to the extraction of excess heat, but Levitch made sure those issues got resolved. Vuk Pavicevic and Geneva Anderson are first rate.

Maurice is a wonderful architect and runs a great business. He is dependable and his crew are absolutely fabulous. We have hired him for several projects in our home and have been very pleased with the quality of the workmanship. We will continue to use Levitch in the future because we are always so thrilled with the results. I would give six stars if I could!!!!

Maurice did my design and build for our ADU underneath a 3 story craftsman and I was very pleased with his knowledge and creativity, particularly when we ran into unexpected snags. He stayed within the budget and all change orders were processed transparently and easily understandable and accessible. The work crews were skilled, professional and respectful. They communicated well and were responsive to my questions and preferences. Maurice personally went above and beyond to address tangentially related issues in an incredibly timely manner. We have enjoyed our remodeled kitchen for a few years now. Excellent workmanship and well-designed. Levitch & Associates went above and beyond to make the process easy on our family. Maurice hooked up a makeshift kitchen in our dining room, including running water. It has been several years and it is the HUB of our house!

It was a big project, a little frightening, but I could not be happier with the results. The Levitch team delivered on all of its promises and built us a beautiful home. In fact, during our final inspection to close permits, the Inspector declared the workmanship "the best he had seen in his 20 year career." I would highly recommend Levitch & Co. for their excellent work from design through each stage to final touches on our kitchen/dining room remodel. They were punctual, professional and pleasant every day. They were true craftsmen (and women) who took pride in their work, and it shows in the final product. I especially appreciated Maurice’s vision in accomplishing our design objectives; the remodel is even better than I had thought it would be!

We have been extremely happy with the work that Levitch Associates has done for us over three separate projects. The first two were in 2003 and 2004. We had a 1926 bungalow, barely updated. We worked closely that time with Maurice, communicating by email as we were at work during the day. We first essentially replaced the rear of the house with a new kitchen, second bath, and walk-in closet, and expanded another undefined room to make a third bedroom. Fortunately, we were able to live in the house while the work was being done as the Levitch crew fashioned a temporary kitchen in our dining room. The second part of the project involved redoing the original bathroom and refurbishing the remaining rooms. We were greatly pleased with the work done by both the various Levitch employees and by the subcontractors; each completely competent. The work does take a while, but the wait is worth it. In 2017 Maurice returned to rework our front porch into an entry area with a new covered landing and entry stairs. We also turned our Model T garage into a pair of rooms for general storage and garden/tool storage. We have been very happy with the translation of our general design ideas into quite stylish results; hard to tell that the current design is not original to the house. This time we worked primarily and easily with Vuk, the project manager, and again the work by the various crew members and sub-contractors was second to none. Frankly, with the quality of work possible, it was hard not to imagine and add extra tasks onto the original scope of work, which we did, as we knew it would be done right and look good!

We worked with Maurice to design and build a replacement for a rotted deck, stairs, and part of a foundation and garage on a 1928 stucco home. The end result is a much safer, more functional, and aesthetically pleasing front entrance that works perfectly with the vintage Tudor style. Maurice and his crew are reliable, considerate, communicate well, and have great attention to detail. I'd be glad to work with Levitch again if I have the opportunity to implement the rest of the larger home improvement projects on my wish-list.

We used Levitch Associates to remodel our kitchen and build on a master bedroom addition. We were so pleased with the whole experience! Maurice and his team are all very nice, responsive, competent, organized people. They are a very nice family-owned business and really take pride in their work. They provided daily updates and description of the work and pictures on BuilderTrend and completed the job on schedule! They were truly a pleasure to work with and we are very happy with the quality of the work and the design. They really transformed our home, and we do not have any hesitation in recommending them. Having heard so many horror stories from friends who have done remodels, we are so happy we chose Levitch! We even miss seeing them around the house now that the work is done!

Levitch Associates did beautiful work for us on a remodel and small addition to a sunroom, with some work in an adjoining laundry room. The remodel included a bay window, refinishing of floors and wood paneling on the walls, new lighting and doors. The team was very responsive and considerate to work with. They gave us choices along the way though we generally took their suggestions, which worked out very well. The subcontractor work was delayed at certain points so the work took longer than expected. But we are very happy with the result.

Levitch and teams were a pleasure to work with from start to finish. Working with Maurice on the design was fun and inspiring. He brought perspective and vision to the project that expanded our thinking and led to a result we couldn’t be happier with. The crews were reliable, on time, responsive, polite and always focused on quality work down to the last details. The kept us up to date on progress with daily updates and photos along with frequent checkins and conversations. They completed the work on time and on budget. Really, we couldn’t have asked for more....

A “two thumbs up” review for Levitch. We hired Levitch for a kitchen/living room remodel approx. 1.5 years ago. We remain very happy with the results. Levitch created a flexible design plan that was modified for cost and other needs as the project progressed. Project manager Vuk was always responsive to calls and questions. All workers showed up on time as promised and worked hard. Levitch does not come cheap, but the overall quality of work plus hassle free process made it worth every penny.

Maurice and his team are the best, from start to finish This is my third profect with them, and I'm confident there'll be a fourth.

Maurice and his staff were very efficient throughout the process, assisting with the many issues/options that come up. The construction stayed on schedule (which never happens) and we couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. They handled all the city and county codes and permits, and were always available to help with any questions/suggestions we had. This is not the way to go if you are trying to save money, but if you want a low stress, inclusionary handling of your large project, Levitch Associates will knock it out of the park!

The Levitch team has completed two remodels on our home -- first one (2003) was a complete kitchen remodel plus two bathroom additions, second one (2018) was an attic expansion. We knew we wouldn't want to work with anyone else after our first experience with Levitch. For this latest project, Levitch converted our previously uninhabitable and inaccessible attic space into a bedroom and common area, rebuilding the entire attic and adding a spiral staircase. The whole process, from preliminary designs, through permitting, through construction was conducted so professionally and with so much care and attention. This is a family-owned company with excellent employees who truly care about their clients and the finished product. We were grateful for thorough and attentive project management and a very sweet building crew of skilled craftsmen. Our project was completed on time and according to the estimated budget. We lived in our home during both of these major remodeling projects and both times, great care was taken on the part of the Levitch team to ensure that we had safe and comfortable living areas. I cannot recommend this company enough.

We used Leitch Associates for a massive remodel of our Berkeley Hills home. We worked with Maurice and crew from design concept (which included a new foundation and the addition of a second floor to our aging house) through completion. We are very happy with the results and Maurice did a great job accommodating our very particular tastes. It was important to us that our house fit in with the natural beauty of the site and Marucie knocked it out of the park. Also would like to add that every member of Maurice's crew was a pleasure to work with and we enjoyed having them working around our house. All took great pride in their work and craftsmanship.

We recently completed a remodel that touched in some way every room of our house. When I told my friends that the remodeling would be happening while we were living 500 miles away, they thought I was insane. But we had confidence in Maurice and it was not misplaced. Our expectations were high but he and his team exceeded them in every way. The process was astonishingly smooth and we are thrilled with the result. We really enjoyed working with Levitch Associates on our house remodeling project and couldn't be happier with the process. Every single person we worked with, including subcontractors, from design through construction was not only sharp, capable, intelligent, and creative, but also professional, nice, and fun. They have a real sense of integrity. While it's tricky to be displaced while going through a large project, they made it as painless as possible. They had great ideas for how to best use our space and were flexible through the process when issues came up, and really few did. We love how it all turned out. I would definitely work with them again and highly recommend them.

We hired Levitch Associates for a major remodel and are absolutely thrilled with the result. Working with Maurice and his team was a real pleasure; the process was challenging but rewarding, and every single person we interacted with was professional, thoughtful, dedicated and kind. We still can't believe we are lucky enough to get to live in such a beautiful house! Our project consisted of a second story addition with three new bedrooms and a bath, complete gut and remodel of the original kitchen and downstairs bathroom, and replacement of a downstairs bedroom with a stairwell and sitting area. We also added a deck opening off the kitchen into the backyard. Altogether, we added about 600 square feet. During the design phase, Maurice demonstrated immediately that he heard and understood our needs and preferences. He helped us craft a plan that not only met our needs, but delighted us with special touches. He invited us to his own home in Berkeley to show us ideas he planned to use, such as a large stairwell window with reeded glass to let in light but hide the ugly view of the house next door. At our first meeting, I mentioned how much I enjoyed the view of the Cal campus that I can see from my home office, and in his first design for us Maurice included a deck "especially for me" so I could enjoy that view every day--and now I do! The design process was very iterative and took several months as we worked through a number of challenges. The biggest was that our home's existing footprint exceeded the city's lot coverage allowance, and we had to scrap our original plan and increase the upstairs addition to create the space we needed. Maurice and his associate architect patiently and creatively helped us through the process. In the end, we wound up with a layout that we liked more than our original vision. We were glad that they caught the overage before they submitted the plans to the city, and in fact, our permit approval phase went extremely quickly. We credit that to Levitch Associates' long history of successful projects in Berkeley and the deep relationships Maurice and his team have with the city. Construction lasted about 8 months. Our project manager, Vuk Pavicevich, worked closely with us on every detail. One of Vuk's greatest strengths is that while he is an experienced and dedicated construction project manager, he is also a trained architect with an artist's soul. He regularly helped us make on-the-spot design decisions about details throughout the house, from the shape of the arch in the breakfast nook to the design of the stair railings and the precise layout of the hardwood floors. We learned quickly that we could trust Vuk implicitly, and while he consulted with us daily about every decision we needed to make, we often told him to go with his best judgement, knowing that his choice would take our aesthetic, budget and schedule into consideration. Plus, Vuk is just a delightful person; we really miss him now that construction is over and we don't get to talk to him every day. Our house is a 1908 Craftsman bungalow and Maurice, Vuk and their team worked carefully with us to retain the original character of the house while modernizing where it made sense. They copied the original molding, window frames and doors so that you can't tell where the old stops and the new starts. They also used old photos we had of the house when it was new to restore the exterior to its original character, copying the style of the original front porch, steps and shingles. While our house is much bigger than it used to be, because of this attention to detail it really looks like it fits in neighborhood, and we get compliments from passers-by all the time. One of the things we really love is how they were able to reuse and recycle pieces of the original building. The old-growth Douglas fir rafters from our original roof became the bannisters and railings of the stairs, and they saved all the original doors to reuse on the new rooms and in our master bedroom as closet doors. They were careful to save every lighting and plumbing fixture we wanted to keep, and recycled our old kitchen cabinets at Urban Ore. They used green building techniques throughout the project as well. Finally, I can't say enough good things about how nice everyone was. Our two kids were very excited about everything and Maurice and Vuk involved them in all kinds of fun ways, letting them "help" when possible, and showing them where their rooms would be before the walls were up. I think at least one of our kids will grow up to be a builder after having such a positive and inspiring experience. Levitch Associates are not the cheapest option around, but you truly do get what you pay for. I highly recommend them to anyone in the Bay Area who wants to work with a design/build firm dedicated to quality, craftsmanship and beauty. Not only will you have a truly gorgeous, highly functional completed project, but you will also enjoy the satisfaction of getting to know a wonderful family and support a multi-generational family firm.

We hired Maurice and Levitch Assoc. after moving to Berkeley from the east coast and purchasing an older home described as having "good bones" (code for "needs a lot of work"). We initially started out with a smaller project in mind planning further renovation at a later time, and I interviewed several architects and other design build firms to discuss the foundation, basement renovation, kitchen changes and bathroom renovations. Maurice was the only architect I interviewed who actually had ideas on the spot, including how to convert quirky former attic dormer space upstairs to maximize bedroom space and create a good- sized functional bathroom for our kids. I liked Maurice immediately, so we hired Levitch and Maurice created two well thought out design schemes for us to choose from. The designs included a media room, guest room and bath in our basement, as well as other configuration changes upstairs (maximizing the kids' space), adding a powder room to our main floor, creating a larger ensuite bath, and laying out a huge galley kitchen. Ultimately, in addition to these plans, we upgraded all the systems in the house, excavated our basement and re-did 3/4 of the foundation, re-did our deck, chimney and fireplace, and replaced all the windows and most doors among other interior finishes. It was a larger project than we originally intended but we are thrilled that we did all the work now and that we hired Levitch to do it for us. Maurice is professional, amiable and easy going, just an all around good guy and pleasant to work with. His project manager, Vuk, was lovely as well, as were all the Levitch workers and their subs. They were careful, reliable and respectful, and their work is of the finest quality. The finished product is beautiful, and I get compliments on my house every time someone walks in. We are grateful that we were able to do this project and that we worked with Levitch.

In May 2017, Levitch began our kitchen and bathroom renovation and completed it within the 3-month timeframe they had estimated and kept the cost within our budget. Our Project Manager Jeff Levitch was responsive, addressed our needs and concerns throughout the project, and offered solutions that we incorporated into the plan. Levitch delivered on what we had conceptualized; and the renovation has facilitated our home life. We fortuitously came-upon Maurice Levitch while at Truitt & White to buy a new sliding glass door to our deck. We asked the sales associate if she could recommend an installer. She pointed to Maurice who happened to be there on another project and said that she would pick him . . . . Nicest group of people marching in and out of our home who were not our friends or family.

Levitch Associates added office space to an existing building. Like most construction projects, we had a short time window and specific tenant concerns. They delivered! We will use them again.

They managed a major remodel of my small house, including complicated permit issues, reconfiguring and improving most of the interior spaces, fixing structural issues, adding a small addition, deck, fireplace, an enlarged, light-filled beautiful kitchen and master bath and other special features that I enjoy daily. Maurice has so much talent and integrity that it was easy to trust him and his top notch crew with my home. The design, project management, and work quality were excellent; Maurice is supportive, thoughtful, creative, good humored, very experienced and knowledgeable - just a real pleasure to work with. We started planning, then contracted with Maurice and Levitch Associates to remodel our kitchen, dining and laundry rooms. We have an 840 sf house so it was essential to maximize every option available. Maurice worked with us every step of the way. We tried to address all facets of the project up front because that's our approach. When something came up unforeseen, Maurice responded quickly. The project was completed on time and within the budget outlined. The staff at Levitch are fantastic to work with. We highly recommend Levitch Associates.

First and foremost, Maurice, Jeff and everyone at Levitch are just nice people. It was a pleasure to work with them from the beginning of design, down to the end of construction when all the little details had to be taken care of. We hired Levitch hoping the design to construction transition would be seamless, and it truly was. Maurice is a talented architect who also knows everything about construction, which can be a rarity! He transformed our living/kitchen/dining areas into one open space, maximized our kitchen counter/cabinet space in creative ways, and reconfigured our bathrooms to be more spacious and efficient. I'm very detail-oriented, and my endless questions were never too much for anyone on the Levitch team! Our primary residence is actually in another state, and their use of BuilderTrend and communication via phone/text/email made us feel constantly in the loop. We trusted them to take care of our house when we were not there, and they treated the space like it was their own. They were also very sensitive to making sure our neighbors and tenant below (it's a duplex) were happy and accommodated throughout construction, which sometimes is an almost impossible thing to do! Our project took a little longer than expected, but that was partially because I took my time on some decisions, and we did not pressure them at all given that this was not our primary residence. You can probably find contractors who are cheaper, but they seem to be in line with other design-build companies in the area. Levitch does quality work. They do things the right way and don't cut corners, and they do it with a smile on their faces. If ever something didn't look quite right to me, I would point it out and it would get addressed. Everyone we worked with at Levitch, including their subcontractors, were genuinely nice people who did great work too. Even their billing department is friendly! We definitely recommend Levitch, and would happily use them again if we ever needed to.

We preferred text messaging and iterating over complicated pieces by email. We stored all our shared documents in Dropbox, and kept track of our selections in a Google Spreadsheet. No sweat. * Commitment to deadlines: The project was delivered *ahead* of schedule. How often do you hear that?! None of the horror stories you hear about. To achieve this, we had a great working relationship identifying dependencies and getting out ahead of selections like large lead times. * BuilderTrend: They use software called BuilderTrend to manage the calendar, store photographs on site throughout the build, and detail change requests. Dead simple to use. For two working adults, this eliminated a ton of anxiety about not being able to be on site every day. * Rock star factor: It would seem everyone in the East Bay knows Maurice. When you visit a tile shop, they roll out the red carpet for you and brew tea. We had a problem with a plumbing fixture, and the vendor drove immediately to the job site to rectify it. We love the work that was done. It feels like *our* home, and we get to enjoy it every day. But how much cooler that we actually got to enjoy the process of getting there…cannot wait to call Maurice for the next project!

Levitch Associates did a master bath, master bedroom expansion, and garage rebuild last year. They did beautiful work including a stunning custom built sink cabinet and surround for the soaking tub. The entire staff was very professional and they have a designer as well as a carpenter on staff which was very helpful during the planning process. A year later, I'm still thrilled.

Maurice Levitch and the entire team at Levitch Associates are the best. I am thankful that I found them. It can be daunting to find a group to do major work on your home - a group that can design and build to the highest standards. Until I did find them I hesitated to undertake the projects I knew my home needed because I didn't feel comfortable with others I interviewed. Maurice is an architect and has an architects eye. His vision enhances the architecture of a home while remaining in harmony with the existing structure. He and his team do excellent work and are responsive. For them the job is not done until every detail is right. Levitch Associates have done three very different projects for me down through the years and they have always done a wonderful job. Here are brief descriptions of the work they did: 1) Repairing decks built on the cantilevered joists which are an integral structural part of my home - three stories up. 2) Repairing the wall(s) of my carport and a lower deck after a freak accident. They were at my house almost immediately after I told them of the accident securing and shoring up my property. 3) Overseeing the upgrading my kitchen which was pure 1957 into a 21st century kitchen. You can't find a better group - you can be sure the work they do will be everything you could wish for.

We found Maurice Levitch and his crew working on a home 2 streets from our home and decided to give him a call. From our first consultation meeting, Maurice is a true professional with extensive knowledge in building, architecture and design. Maurice is a master builder and an architect. Finding a competent builder with both an architect's eye and a builder's knowledge is very difficult. He and his staff, his work crew, everyone at the firm, are true professionals who are courteous, considerate, and very hard working. Maurice and his crew are very detail oriented. . Our project was extensive, a little over 2 years from design to finish. We explained what we needed: more space in our home for our growing kids. But we did not really have an idea as to design. We were limited in space. Our home was built in the 1920's. We wanted to maintain the craftsman features of the house. We also explained we liked the split story design of some of the older the homes in the area. Maurice created a plan showing a 2nd story master bedroom, bathroom, and beneath, an office/family room and storage room. Off our kitchen, a nook area was created with a high ceiling. This has become a central area of our home. This area has a transom window at the top that allows morning sunlight to enter, which just brightens the area. It is a beautiful space! We also made modifications to the existing living room/dining room areas (taking down a wall that lead to what used to be an office), adding a pass through in another area to create more open space). The 2nd part of our project ended up being our detached garage. Because we added square footage to the house, we had to lose some of our garage. (which was 1 1/2 car wide). But Maurice was able to find areas in the home to add some of the storage space lost from the garage. It has worked out great! We LOVE our “new” home! This project was a major project for us. With a project of this size, unexpected things are going to come up. We had a budget in mind starting. With the final plans, the cost of the job was higher than we originally planned. We felt we had to do due-diligence and reviewed the proposed cost with another local builder. We realized the bid proposed by Levitch Associates was a realistic proposal that took into consideration the size and scope of the project, and the unknowns. It is clear Levitch Associates has a lot of experience in building and we would stress they really know what they are doing. The work on our home was anticipated to be completed in 5 months, and it ended up being 7 months. During this time period, there was constant work, with only a few days of "down time". The garage is currently being worked on and it has taken about 1 month. Overall, we are satisfied with the amount of time it took to complete the entire project. Maurice and his team are such a great group of people to work with. They are consistently considerate, knowledgeable, highly skilled, and a professional group. These guys are GOOD people, the REAL DEAL. We would hire them all over again! Thank you Maurice and Team Levitch!

Maurice and his team came recommended by two different friends in our neighborhood and we learned first-hand why. When I first called Maurice to let him know about a remodel project he met with me the same day and started sketching out on paper high-level ideas of different options to consider. Our work included remodeling a kitchen, adding a bathroom, replacing an aging heating system, adding insulation and making other smaller improvements in other parts of the house. He was helpful in narrowing down options and explaining trade-offs. His Project Manager Vuk was knowledgeable and highly responsive via phone, text and email. He'd take care of any issue big and small, and was helpful in deciding when to add on extra work that would improve the house, or forego work that he thought wouldn't add as much value. The work is very high quality - everything looks great and works well. For smaller issues towards the end of the project they made sure that every last detail was addressed. Our remodel of a 1922 home in Berkeley was the largest renovation my husband and I had done, to date. We were lucky to find a home that had many original features, and Maurice was as enthusiastic about preserving these details as I was, while still updating the home and making it work for my family. I wanted to be involved with the interior design of our home, and Maurice was very patient with me. In fact, he enthusiastically took on the projects I described; sometimes I had a photo, sometimes all I had was a vague description of what I wanted. He seemed genuinely interested in building something unique, whether banquette seating, kitchen light fixtures, or the stair rail. Maurice and Jeff never said something couldn’t work. Instead, they figured out how to make it work. Levitch Associates renovated our home in two phases, and I never considered any one else for the job. The contracts were thorough, and invoicing was easy to understand - I always knew the status of the project and my budget. We really got the impression that Maurice felt a responsibility to our home once he worked on it. More than once, I called Maurice with an issue, unrelated to the work they had done previously, and they came immediately to help out. We have left Berkeley and have a new fixer-upper in Massachusetts. Whenever we do any construction at our home, my husband and I always wonder how Maurice would design or build something. Levitch Associates set a very high standard.

Maurice and Levitch Associates were wonderful to work with and I cannot say enough positive things about the quality of the work and their professionalism. We worked with Maurice for several years developing a master plan for the house, which ultimately turned into a 2 phase remodel project. The first phase/project was a bathroom remodel during the summer of 2010. The second phase was a much larger kitchen, 2 bathrooms, closet and hallway remodel, which was completed last Nov (2012). All the projects turned out beautifully and we couldn't be happier. As a design-builder, Maurice took the time to get to know us, helped us design our house to best meet our needs and oversaw the construction from start to finish. Throughout the process, he offered many helpful design recommendations, which were incorporated into our plans. Levitch made it possible for us to live in the house during the remodel. We had a fully functioning kitchen and laundry facilities that were set up in our dining room. It wasn't easy to live through a major renovation project, but the Levitch team certainly made in it as painless as it could have been. The projects were completed on time and within the budget we set out to keep. We had change orders, but they were kept to a minimum, which helped. Maurice and his crew did an excellent professional job! I highly recommend Levitch Associates to anyone performing a remodel. The work included rebuilding half our downstairs. It included: 1. Kitchen 2. Laundry Room 3. Bathroom 4. TV room 5. Removed brick chimney and replaced it with a gas fired one. 6. Installed crown molding throughout the house. 7. Installed custom shelves in office. He closely followed our instructions to use eco-friendly materials. The level of detail that was performed and the customer service was excellent. The job initially was scheduled to take 4 months and Maurice finished ahead of schedule.

Levitch Associates were a dream to work with—entirely professional with an uncompromising perfectionism. I needed to move out of a rental and into my house in a couple of months time, so the team remodeled my kitchen and two bathrooms at a blistering pace.
