About Us

Mitra Designs Studio Collaborative is a Design consultation firm based in Vermont specializing in providing design services for distinctive homes and business’s. With more than 25 years of design experience, professional recognition and published work; Mitra’s work can be seen in numerous national and prestigious design magazines, and other publications. The most distinguishing aspect of Mitra’s work—for which she is greatly respected in the design and construction field—is her keen attention to every visual and functional aspect of design. Mitra has an exceptionally strong conceptual and space planning and problem solving ability which is the foundation of her design work. Her business success is also due to her ability to come up with creative design solutions and “pull everything together” for her clients according to the highest design standards. Mitra is also well known and respected by her colleagues for her ability to understand the nuts and bolts of the construction process and for being an effective team player. She works closely with builders to ensure a smooth transition of the design phase into the construction. Mitra is also an artist and that spirit is embodied in her design work and in her ability to design spaces that is not only functional, but delight, surprise, rejuvenate, and inspire. Decades of hands-on experience both in reputable architectural design firms and construction field has allowed me to gain a deep understanding of the needs of both fields. I have developed a successful process in my work that allows the project team to foresee and carefully consider all project needs early in the design and planning and construction phase. I pay special attention to all critical aspects as well as artistic elements of good design such as scale, form, function, and proportion, as well as the psychological effects of natural and artificial lighting, color, and texture. My conceptual design packages are highly comprehensive and easy to understand for which I continually receive praise for by both my clients and their builders.

We have worked with Mitra in the past for several projects on our home. Now we are doing a complete renovation of our basement space - 1800 sq feet with a full bath, bedroom, kitchen, gym area, game area, and movie area. Although the project is not yet completed, the space is transforming beautifully! Mitra has been able to redesign the basement from one that previously had a strange layout, to a space that will be both beautiful and have much better functionality. Mitra is such an artist but also realistic designer, able to conceptualize a modern and aesthetically pleasing look that also FUNCTIONS perfectly. Her relationship with our contractor is great as well which makes for easy communication and coordination. She has been readily available to answer questions and make some changes as the project has been moving forward. It's always a pleasure to work with Mitra and I can't wait to see the final result of the basement!

It has been a great pleasure to team up with Mitra Designs Studio on a wonderful range of projects through the years. What we admire most about Mitra is her originality, her commitment to design excellence as well as her relationships with clients. When working on a project she thoroughly engages the client in the decision making process, bringing them into the showroom to go through all selections and guiding them from start to finish. Mitra has an incredible eye for color and texture, she will put together combinations of materials you would never think of and the end result is incredible every time! The uniqueness brought to her projects is truly inspiring, her versatility is amazing and she is extremely detail oriented no matter the style of home. We look forward to future projects with Mitra and her team!

It's hard to quantify all that we appreciate about Mitra Designs Studio. From the beginning, she took the time to understand us. She interviewed us, spent time in the home with (and without) us, asked us about our habits and preferences, likes and dislikes. She drew careful plans for us, was open to suggestion and collaboration, worked diligently to meet our expectations and budget, and was prepared and thorough. She had a lot of ideas, cared a great deal, and had good follow through. When she toured the finished product, it was interesting to see her eyes light up at elements (like the positioning of windows, or finish details of rooms, or flow) that she had struggled to perfect for us. She succeeded in all these things. Building a home is a group effort and she was a valuable member of the team. Thank you, Mitra.

I highly recommend Mitra for any architecture or interior design projects you may have. We have used Mitra for two of our projects and give her an A+ on both. She is talented, creative, hard working and an excellent communicator. She skillfully blends her talent in architecture and interior design on our first project of building a house. She was knowledgeable in the construction process and able to clearly communicate her ideas with the builder, vendors and us, the homeowners. Her drawings and design detail were detailed and imaginative. We love how she addressed the elements of design, space, shape, structure, design flow, functional design, color scheme and lighting to create our uniquely gorgeous home. Specifically, Mitra designed graceful, flowing rooms, including cabinets and shimmering mosaic tile, and built in furniture and a live edge wood and stainless steel table. Mitra’s second project was designing a stunning liquor cabinet for us. We really appreciate how she listened to our ideas and worked closely with us to quickly create sketches, refining them as we were able to become more clear with the exact design we wanted. We were amazed at the time and attention she devoted to this project; she made it a priority and was able to have us pick out the wood, meet with the wood worker and line up a metal worker with a couple weeks. In conclusion, Mitra is a creative, highly skilled in all aspects of building design who has fabulous communication skills. I recommend her without reservation for any of your design needs.

Conner & Buck has been involved with Mitra Designs on various projects for the past 15 years. Mitra has worked with us on several phases of design from conceptual space planning for residential homes, additions, and renovations to comprehensive interior designs. She has led a design team on various other projects providing valuable schematic design and design development that provide all of the information for project CDs. She works very well with clients. She is a good listener and she thinks quickly allowing her to be reflexive to owner changes. Mitra has a broad knowledge of materials and is always looking for new and interesting things to incorporate into the work. Mitra’s hand drawings and renderings are both beautiful and workable. Along with her drawings, we’ll typically get schedules for all building components, trim details, casing details, cabinetry, lighting, and color selections for the project. We hired Mitra for several projects on our home, including remodeling the entire outside of our home, landscape ideas, and many inside projects including gut renovation of our entire family room with custom made cabinetry and lighting, modernizing our existing doorways and windows, and adding architectural design features including structured walls. She has an AMAZING artistic eye and can make a blah room into a feature of the house! She has exceptional architectural knowledge while keeping esthetics at the forefront of her design ideas. She has a spectacular way of mixing various textures, colors and materials to make a room both comfortable/inviting, and esthetically beautiful! In addition, Mitra has a great team of specialty painters and cabinet makers that were equally exceptional! Mitra was very patient, thorough, and listened to what we envisioned very well. Excellent to work with and we can't wait to work with her on future projects!

We have been fortunate to work on several projects with Mitra of Mitra Designs Studio. Her projects are innovative, bringing surprising elements together in a mix of classic and contemporary design. Mitra has been a pleasure to work with on each project. She is able to speak the language of each player in the Design/Build process - from client to cabinetmaker - and she stays involved from start to finish. She has a wonderful aesthetic sense with an eye for color and detail, she's a problem solver, and she knows how to merge the intent of the design and the integrity of the building process into one. We were extremely satisfied with Mitra's services. What an eye Mitra has! She took a look at our living room/dining room and soon presented us with a plan that was extremely creative and functional. She turned our rather drab living room/dining room into the showcase of our home. The walls of the first floor are lined with crown molding and the colors she picked are absolutely amazing. My wife and I recommend Mitra without reservation.
