We worked with SteveWorks to modify the entrance to our home and add a mudroom. The team was lovely to work with, and the architecture blends well into our old home, while still feeling new and being exceptionally functional. With two young kids and a dog, we were particularly mindful of who would be spending long hours in our house, and we couldn't spekw more highly of Daniel and Keegan. We use our mudroom every day and continue to be so pleased with the result.

I had Steve remodel my Kitchen to a modern style and look and wow was I pleased! If you are looking to update your home kitchen or bathroom I highly recommend!

I found Steveworks on Houzz when I was decluttering an unfinished attic room that until recently had a gas furnace in it. We had replaced it with a heat pump, so the room could now be a finished living space, but the idea of finding someone to make it a room was a little daunting. I posted pictures and a few ideas on Houzz, and several people reached out to me, Steveworks most promptly, professionally and with really great questions. Their designer did a fantastic job laying out the space and we worked together to figure out how to deal with the ducting so that the resulting boxed out area could be used as a window seat / daybed. They were always friendly and helpful, and worked well with other companies (such as AMS HVAC) and they had great subcontractors who were professional. Everyone worked hard to minimize the impact of construction on the rest of the house. The resulting room is beautiful, warm and cozy and ready to welcome guests into a quiet little nest away from the family chaos.

We highly recommend Steveworks! Our basement renovation turned out so much better than we imagined. Steve, Brian, Asher and Tova are skilled, creative, responsive, dependable professionals who met our every need as they cheerfully transformed our dark, dank, forgettable basement into a bright, cozy and functional guest suite for family and friends. Steveworks' commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability is what makes them stand out. The team improved the comfort and air quality of our space with an electric heat pump and an energy recovery ventilator, replaced our gas-powered hot water heater with a climate-friendly heat-pump model, and installed beautiful eco-friendly Marmoleum flooring. The custom cabinets they cleverly designed and built created much-needed storage that makes the most of our new space. And the team made our scary basement stairs a work of art! Steveworks' team even designed in plumbing and electrical features that make our space ready to add a shower and kitchenette if we want to use it differently in the future. We love that our granddaughter and her parents now have a cozy space of their own with a private entrance just downstairs. Great for lots of visits! We'll readily call Steveworks in the future for the quality of their design and workmanship, the cleanliness and thoughtfulness of each member of their team and subcontractors, and the beauty of their work and attention to detail.

Steveworks, Tova, and the crew did an outstanding job on our kitchen renovation, deck build, and mudroom addition—we couldn’t be happier with the results. After walkthroughs with several contractors, we chose Steveworks for their thoughtful ideas from the start. They took the time to get to know us, understand what worked (and what didn’t) in our home, and design solutions that would make living here more comfortable for years to come. Our project began with the goal of removing the wall between our kitchen and dining room to create a larger, open space, along with adding a backyard deck. Through additional walkthroughs and planning, we decided to include the addition of a mudroom and heat pumps—both of which we now couldn’t imagine living without! Since the kitchen was a full renovation, we worked closely with Tova on the design, and she brought the vision in our heads to life on screen. She listened carefully to what we wanted (and what we didn’t) and created the kitchen of our dreams. Tova was also incredibly helpful in guiding us through selections for materials, cabinets, appliances, and more. We lived in our house throughout the entire renovation, and while it was certainly challenging, the Steveworks crew and all of their subs made the process as easy as possible. They cleaned thoroughly every day, sealed off construction from non-construction areas, and kept the house tidy so we could continue living comfortably during the project. And it was great to see all the progress being made on a day to day basis. Cut to the finished product, and we couldn’t be happier! The results exceeded our expectations—the kitchen is stunning and has completely transformed our home, making it far more functional and enjoyable. It’s become the space where we love to spend all of our time (when we’re not out on our new deck). The mudroom has also added so much valuable, functional space, and we’re grateful to Steveworks for suggesting it. We couldn’t recommend Steveworks enough and we’ll definitely work with them again on any future projects.

Steveworks LLC replaced leaking atrium windows in our house. We turned to them after several false starts with other contractors. They identified the perfect subcontractor to remove our old windows and install new argon filled ones, which had to be specially fabricated for the space. The job also entailed roof and flashing work as well improved flashing around other windows and interior painting. We also added electrical work to the job. Very good communication on options as the job went on. They were very easy to work with. We highly recommend them and would use them again. No leaks now!

Steveworks has completed significant work on our home in Somerville, MA. They executed the work to a very high standard, are committed to implementing the latest in green building technology, and communicate through the design and production phases thoroughly. We could not recommend them more highly. A bit more about our projects: We started with a deep energy retrofit to transition off of oil heat. The energy retrofit included replacing all the doors and windows and removing the exterior siding to substantially increase the efficiency of the building envelope but also enlarging windows to let more light into the home. While we were working on the exterior, we updated the facade of the house with new siding and trim. Steveworks also worked with some artisans in New England to add a couple of architectural elements to the exterior of the home: a contemporary steel frame porch awning and a show-stopping (and energy efficient!) custom fir garage door. After the exterior work, Steveworks took on our interior project, including renovating the kitchen, main bathroom, and opening up our entry foyer. The tight feedback loop between the designer and the crew allowed us to have a coherent idea of how different design choices would affect the budget. Since they’ve done a lot of kitchens and bathrooms, they had a lot of really valuable advice on designing for livability and convenience. Our project included some custom carpentry (built-in shelves, a room divider) that Steveworks built; we get compliments on these pieces all the time. The interior renovation really improved the space - our home is such a pleasure to live in now! Ours was the sort of project that really requires a team of the caliber of Steveworks. The crew stays up-to-date on building science and has the experience in craftsmanship to execute on current best-practices. Their mission of sustainability runs through the entire operation; they sourced recycled materials for our project, moved tools in an electric van, and avoided plastics, VOCs, and other non-biodegradable polymers. The result is really remarkable. I’m writing this review in January on one of the coldest days of the year, and the house is snug and incredibly comfortable running on just one heat pump. Through this project and the exterior project, we interacted with many of the subcontractors Steveworks uses. They were experienced and professional - certainly a higher caliber than we could have found randomly. It’s a testament to the company that they have maintained some subcontractor relationships for over twenty years. They also built a really valuable relationship with us, exhibiting kindness and flexibility as our life threw us a couple of curveballs. The crew even built a relationship with our dog! We are, of course, glad to enjoy the end result of our projects, but we will miss interacting with everyone at Steveworks.

After bad experiences with other contractors, we have gone back to Steveworks over and over. At this point, the only ones we trust no matter what we are looking for. Extremely high quality work, easy to work with, reliable and friendly. They are great at solving problems, with an eye to design as well as quality and durability. They did everything from full window replacement, to rotting patio reconstruction, to main room remodel and floor replacement.

We love our new office! The team, led by Brian, was very good at communicating throughout the project, did great work, had an excellent eye for detail, and treated our home and family always with complete respect. We were nervous what it would be like to live through a construction project like this, but they did an outstanding job of protecting our floors and putting up airtight barriers to keep everything else clean. The final result was a gorgeous new addition, just as promised. It looks like it has always been there because of the effort they put in to match trim and other details. We'd definitely use Steveworks again for a future project.

Steveworks did a great job on our bathroom renovation. They worked very consistently from the moment they began the project (at no point did they 'disappear' for a while, as has happened with other contractors) and started and ended within the predicted times. All employees and subcontractors were incredibly reliable, personable. and had good communication skills, and always kept the spaces as clean as possible. Very happy with their work!

SteveWorks is the best! Competitive pricing, honesty and attention to details are just a few of their qualities. Steve and his wife Tova gave generously of their time when it came to choices of tile, cabinetry and appliances paying close attention to our budget which allowed for a few lovely spicy finishing touches in the kitchen. Their son Asher and project manager Brian kept us updated on day to day progress and addressed all issues effectively and efficiently. They started when they said they would start and finished when expected. When finished, they did not disappear. Instead they paid attention to the end of project punch list and quickly addressed unexpected issues without hesitaton. I proudly recommend them for any home improvement project and would happily employ their services again.

We are so happy to have worked with Steveworks on the renovation of our home. We’ve lived here for over 20 years and wanted to retain the character of our house while growing our available space. We added a new second story bedroom, master bath and upstairs laundry over our existing kitchen. We extended a portion of our roofline to create additional space for our upstairs office and we relocated a first-floor bathroom and closet to open up space in our dining room. We added skylights in the stairwell and upstairs rooms and rebuilt our back porch. This was our first experience with home renovation and our house is older, small and quirky. Steve and Tova were both helpful in guiding us through the reno process and worked with us to arrive at a great plan for the space that is practical, beautiful and stable. We appreciated their quickness and responsiveness all through the project. We also appreciated their flexibility through the construction portion of the project. They strive to do the project well while also being mindful of environmentally friendly products and practices. Asher, Brian and team did fantastic work and are easy to communicate with. One thing we would have done differently would be an in-person review of window sizes and materials. We live in a neighborhood where space is tight and neighbors are affected by construction noise and dust. During the project and when we moved back into the house, our neighbors spoke highly of the crew’s friendliness and consideration. They also mentioned how much they love the look of the house with the changes and we agree! It’s a testament to Steveworks that the house has retained its character and structure along with the expansion of our space.

Steveworks did a great job on our house. We already had 33 solar panels on our roof, but we also had an oil-burning furnace that was burning fossil fuels (we had biofuels and a pretty efficient boiler so it was not as bad as it could be, but it was still pretty bad). We also had a 32-year old AC system that probably would have lasted for awhile, but was not long for this world. Steve recommended both a heat pump hot water heater and an air source HVAC system. We now have a zero-emission house so far, although I do suspect that we’ll have some electricity bills in February and perhaps March. Perhaps we’ll add a few more panels when we get an EV. The job was not simple. First, because we were using our old AC ducts, there were some places where we had to put in mini-splits because the ducts were either not placed in the right place or non-existent (in the basement). Second, we chose to get rid of our old baseboards and radiators. That meant that there were lots of places that required patching, painting, etc. All of that was handled as well as it could be. Steve had warned us that some of the floor patches could not be perfect without re-sanding the entire floor. He did a good job of touching that up multiple times to get it as good as it could be. Steve has really great sub-contractors who work with him. His electrician was able to innovate around a lot of old-house issues. His painter did a great job. And, the HVAC contractor is also great and was right on top of some of the inevitable glitches that occur when you try to turn a system based on AC ducts into both a heating and AC system. We’re doing another phase of the project to replace our very old windows in our sun room with triple-pane Marvin windows. We look forward to that project as well.

We're so glad we held out for Steveworks to do the work on our home. It sounds a bit cliché, but we really don't know what we'd do without them! They've been communicative, reliable, and honest throughout repair and construction. They enthusiastically answered all our questions and concerns. They offered us options and recommendations, but we made the final decisions. Like us, they're focused on environmental impact. They helped us make difficult decisions about environmentally focused issues like what materials to use, when to stick with what we already had, and, unfortunately, when to throw things away. When they could, they found a new home for something we removed, like our hot water heater, which they helped us replace with a heat pump. We've learned a lot from them and hope to again. It's been fantastic to work with the family/crew. Thank you, Steveworks!

Steve is an amazing contractor and we highly recommend working with him. We hired him to do an assessment of a possible project to develop an accessory apartment in the ground floor of our condo. Throughout the process, he was extremely thorough and diligent as well as polite and professional, and took our needs and requests into account at every stage including time frames, budgeting, contract terms, and other matters. The plan was developed in such a way that was maximally flexible: for example, certain decisions such as which door we wanted installed were deferred so that construction could begin earlier while allowing us to take our time fleshing out some of the aesthetic details of the project. Steve also interacted extensively with city officials to sort through regulatory and permitting issues necessary for the project, and made the whole process very simple on our end. Although the development project ultimately did not proceed for completely unrelated reasons, Steve’s assessment was impeccable and we were excited about the detailed plan he put together for the project.

The Steveworks team is always a pleasure to work with! On this occasion, they helped us fully renovate a roof deck that was falling apart. Above and beyond replacing all the broken aspects of the original desk, they helped us design and build a beautiful new trellis with large planters where we plan to grow a substantial native pollinator garden with vines to provide us more shade, privacy, and protection from nighttime urban light pollution. As you can see in our attached pictures, it turned out beautifully. It'll be a true oasis once our plants grow in over the coming few years!

We had an excellent experience with Steveworks and the entire team. All details of the project were carefully laid out and identified before the project began. Steve was patient with our numerous questions. Bathroom options can be overwhelming, Tova was extremely helpful picking all the "right" tile, bathroom hardware and accessories, shower doors and color. Brian managed the project and was easy to work with. We were living in the house during the renovation, he always gave us a "heads up" on who and when tasks were being worked on. Project came in on budget and on time. We are delighted.

Steveworks did a large renovation for us in Newton, MA. They gutted the house, reconfigured walls and rooms, and pushed out the back of our small kitchen to create a large gorgeous kitchen for our family of five. Throughout the process Tova helped us come up with a design that was thoughtful and practical. Having lived in the space now for 6 months we can further appreciate the thoughtfulness of her designs, and her careful consideration for the realities of how we would live in the space. Asher, the project lead, along with Jim, the lead carpenter, were easy to talk to, patient and hardworking. They took care to make sure they met our expectations and worked hard to ensure we'd be thrilled with the results. We are. While we did not choose Steveworks for their focus on environmentally conscientious construction, we enjoyed Steve's infectious passion for trying to do what is right in everything he approaches. His guidance and expertise allowed us to convert a thermally leaky oil heated house into a tight fully electric house with heat pumps and an induction stove. Even the materials Steve chose, such as the house siding material, were done with care for the environment. We had a wonderful experience working with Steveworks, and we wouldn't hesitate to use them again in the future.

We worked with Steveworks for remodeling our kitchen. Our goal was to upgrade it while keeping the style similar, which they totally got and delivered. That said, they made several good suggestions that we would not have considered by ourselves, and that turned out to be great ideas. Switching to induction and upgrading a nearby closet into a pantry are two big wins that we would have missed without them. Special mention to Brian who oversaw the onsite work and did a lot of the work with the contractors, Mike and John—the result is very clean, they nailed all the details. The other contractors for the paint and the tiles also did a great job. We saw Brian and Mike regularly for several weeks and they were always nice, which matters for a project of that length. We also appreciate that made extra efforts to keep a functional house while they were working on the kitchen. They installed a temporary sink, moved the fridge and microwave so we could keep using them, and reinstalled quickly the dishwasher. They also tried hard to contain the dust and not to turn the entire house into a construction site, which made it easier for us and our young kids. Overall, we are happy to have found them and to have worked with them.

Steveworks helped us with renovation our kitchen & dining area, full bath, and added a half bath and closet. We couldn't be happier wit the result. Our space is absolutely beautiful. Perhaps more importantly, they worked very closely with us throughout the entire project, helped support us in decision making along the way, were extremely accommodating to our needs, and when all was said and done, were slightly UNDER their original refined estimate! All in all, thing couldn't have gone more smoothly.

This was the second project we hired Steveworks for. The first was a kitchen renovation that we have been so happy with! This project was a renovation of an existing 1/2 bath and transformation of our top floor to a new bedroom with full bath and walk-in closet. Tova drew a few different floor plans for us and was very willing to tweak things when we asked. The best thing about working with Steveworks is how responsive they are. Every time we've had a concern or question they are always super quick to respond. They literally don't sleep if they feel their client is unhappy in anyway. Thus, we have never been unhappy! There were inevitable glitches and delays here and there, but the lines of communication were kept open at all times. The lead carpenter on our job, Jim, was a pleasure to see every day. We miss him!

We recently completed a master bathroom renovation with steveworks and couldn’t be happier with the outcome or the experience working with Steve, Tova, Asher, Brian, and the rest of the crew. We contacted steveworks because we wanted a good contractor that shared our values in sustainability, and they were recommended by an acquaintance. We also liked that they offer design and build services, as we didn’t want to hire an architect. Steve and Tova were very easy to work with from the beginning. Tova understood us and our vision for the new space immediately and helped us quickly narrow our search to find the perfect fixtures and accessories. Although the final construction budget had doubled from the initial quote (one year prior), Steve walked us through the amounts and why it was so much higher. Covid had caused increases in many raw material and subcontractor costs. In addition, we added some extra indulgences including a heated floor and towel warmer. They understood our concerns and worked with us to defray extra costs as much as possible throughout the process, which was greatly appreciated. Once construction started, Brian, our lead carpenter, and Asher were very well organized. The construction zone was isolated from the rest of our house for most of the project so it was easy for the team to come and go as needed, and communication was excellent throughout the process. Brian was always present when subcontractors arrived to ensure everything was done correctly, and he always kept us apprised of when someone might be coming into the basement to access the electrical panel or plumbing, etc. since we have cats and he knew we were worried about them getting outside. The construction process itself went mostly according to plan, and any hurdles were addressed efficiently and completely. The subcontractors were all highly skilled and went above and beyond to make everything right. We had some perplexing plumbing issues in the garage that were fixed as part of the job, and Mike, the electrician, helped fix a few other random electrical issues in the house, unrelated to the renovation. We have a lot of tile in the new bathroom, and it was beautifully installed. We also replaced an existing window with a much smaller one, which meant the outside of the house had to be reshingled and repainted there. The first exterior paint sample was not a perfect match, so they had it rematched and it now seamlessly blends from new to old. We are absolutely thrilled with our new bathroom. It feels like a luxury spa every time we go in there now. Our cats absolutely love the heated floor- there is now a cat or two in there at all times. Our old bathroom was cold, drafty, and generally unpleasant to be in, so we couldn’t be happier about all of the wonderful features of the new space. Everyone was such a pleasure to work with- we couldn’t be happier with our experience and are already dreaming about the next projects we will work with them on!

Steveworks listened to our scheduling needs and project expectations from beginning to end. We needed the addition of a portico to our house for both safety and aesthetic reasons. One man was assigned to the building of the project, Brian, and he turned out to be an amazing craftsman. Each challenge he uncovered with our project, he worked carefully and diligently to solve, and the result was amazing! Needless to say, Steveworks is a company that aims to please! Now it is too cold to paint, but Brian has sealed everything up to protect it from water damage, and we know that the painting crew will come back in the spring to paint the portico to perfection.

Excellent quality, very responsive and knowledgeable. Steveworks helped us solve some serious water-rot related structural problems when they were unexpectedly discovered in the course of the project. Communication was always clear, informative and prompt. We had such a good experience that we are using them again!

This was our second time hiring Steveworks for a job. They had previously re-finished our basement and we hired them this time to repair our exterior siding and gutters. This was an extensive project at a time that it was hard to get contractor time. Steveworks arranged to be able to start the project at the end of one season and continued the next summer so as to minimize our wait time. There was a lot of work to do (the house had not been painted for almost 12 years), and the first estimate was accurate to the final cost even though there were some additional issues uncovered in the course of the work. His staff coordinated well with us, and with the sub contractors for a smooth completion. The final step of placing gutters was minimally delayed, and even though we didn't mind much Steveworks discounted that component as an apology. Overall, we greatly appreciated the excellent communication and prompt responses throughout the project. We have now hired them twice and would hire again when the need arises.

Steveworks designed and renovated my home, transforming it from a single story ranch to a fully two level home, more than doubling the living space. It was a major renovation that included expanding the kitchen area and creating an open first floor plan, and adding an entire second floor with master bedroom suite, guest bedroom, exercise room and office. The house is gorgeous! The team really worked with me to create my dream home. They worked with me on many different design ideas, and spent time with me in selecting all of the house materials, colors and selections, they helped to ensure that my home's infrastructure is even more energy efficient, and the construction was very carefully and well-done, from high quality and beautiful flooring to outstanding carpentry throughout the home. The design of the house includes skylights and lots of window light, a new bedroom outdoor porch, and the office space I have always wanted. The house looks truly lovely - keeping its original character, it really fits well with my lot and the neighborhood. My neighbors have made so many positive comments! Every member of the team spent one-on-one time with me to discuss the details during the design and build phases, and to make sure all was implemented well even after the punch list was complete. This is a family-based business and it really shows in their effort and investment in the projects they choose to take on. Beautiful and high quality work that has led to the ultimate forever-home.

Steveworks is an awesome team! We've worked with them several times on projects big and small, and each time we've been impressed with their clear communication, dedication to excellent results, and kind team members. Our most recent project was a built-in maple bookcase designed to house a large faux fireplace/space heater. Asher's woodworking is fantastic and the result is both functional and gorgeous. As a professional architectural photographer I see many projects that look great, until you really start to pay attention to the finish details. It's in these small details that people who really care about their craft shine brightly. Today I was editing images from a Steveworks bathroom renovation shoot. I zoom in and notice the screwheads are all aligned on the light switch plate. Not many would probably notice. But I look for things like this to tell me how much people really care about the work they do, and you should too. My father, an exceptional carpenter, taught me to pay attention even to this level of detail. He'd say, "If you're going to do a job, do it right." I could not be more impressed with the consistently great quality from Steveworks. Hire them to be certain your project is completed with the utmost professionalism and craftsmanship.

Steve, Tova, Asher, Jim, and everyone else from Steveworks were great! We did full kitchen remodel and added a new mudroom. From the outset Tova had great ideas for the design and layout and as the project got going they were great about condensing down the important decisions that needed to be made. They always gave great advice but I never felt pressured or up sold. Everyone was very attentive to details and proactive about communicating and resolving any issues that came up. Midway through the project the pandemic began, but Steveworks handled it like professionals with clear communication and well thought out safety protocols. Asher always kept us informed with weekly project status update emails and was super responsive to any questions that I had along the way. Even in this new and difficult situation they continued to do excellent work. Steveworks built us a beautiful and functional kitchen and mudroom that are a pleasure to use every day. Working with Steveworks LLC was a good experience and the project exceeded our expectations. Steve and his crew remodeled our kitchen with a deck, plus added a dining room and mudroom. The design and work provided by Steveworks was outstanding. His crew and subcontractors were very professional, skilled in their crafts, friendly and very clean. We were provided a timeline at the beginning of the project and constant project updates. They kept the project on time which was important to us. And of course, with any major renovation projects there are always some issues that come up during the process, but Steve and Asher jumped in and corrected the issues immediately. We are extremely happy with our old/new space and the work Steveworks did. It looks great . We enjoyed working with Steveworks and we would recommend or use them again if a need arises.

A total pleasure to work with Steve and his crew! We had some new, solar powered skylights installed. Barry, who did most of the work for us on this project, not only did a skilled, careful job, at the end he also made sure that we knew how to operate the remote controls. The skylights work really well and the finishing details around the skylights are perfect. The crew was on time every day and they carefully blocked off the work area to minimize the disruption and the mess. At the end of every day they cleaned up the space. Steveworks has done a lot of work for us over the years. It's always good!

When we set out to convert our fourth bedroom into a legal accessory apartment (with a complete kitchen, bathroom and bedroom), we needed someone who could not only provide quality design/build services and navigate Newton's new accessory apartment ordinance but also someone who would implement green building practices and be willing to minimize the use of materials that offgas/release VOCs. This was a tall order, but Steveworks delivered in all respects. We are very pleased with the outcome and - perhaps more importantly - with the way in which Steve and Tova run their business and how they handle "bumps" along the way. They are honest, knowledgeable and capable, willing to learn, willing to explain, willing to listen and to discuss. Thanks for helping us to both create and implement our vision!

Extremely responsible and pleasant to work with. Their subcontractors were personable and of superior quality, providing excellent craftsmanship. There was extraordinary attention paid to details in design and execution. Weekly plans were communicated so we always knew what was going to be done in the days ahead. Weekly summaries were helpful, too. They were always available for questions and consultations, and patient with any changes we requested. Their work was excellent!

After having a fire in my home, I turned to Steve to get the work done, once the Insurance Company had done their thing. Steveworks knew we had a school-age boy in the family & did everything in their power to get us back into our home for the new school year. During a difficult summer, with uncooperative weather, they were still able to get the job done. The finish on the floors & the fresh paint on the walls & ceiling were amazing. They removed the vinyl siding and replaced it with cedar clapboards, which were then stained, and also designed and built a beautiful overhang above the front door. They excel in their attention to detail, their collaboration with us on design ideas, excellent carpentry crew ( quiet, professional, prompt, highly skilled), excellent paint crew. Work done meticulously, on budget. High degree of professionalism and craftsmanship. Kept us informed every step of the way. AND they utilize eco-friendly materials which was very important to us. Steveworks was a great contractor for our home addition. His team is hardworking and pleasant, important when you have people in your home on a regular basis! They have great subs as well. They air-sealed and fully insulated the house as well as installing an energy recovery unit in the addition. We couldn't be happier with our new home!

The project included five first floor rooms, including gutting the kitchen and bathroom and installing or refinishing hardwood. floors. We hired them because we were impressed by their integrity verified by references and commitment to stand by their work. The contract required careful review, but they worked with us to meet our needs. Our project presented several problems which were worked through to our satisfaction; they found solutions to several issues that were much appreciated. They went beyond our expectations to meet our deadlines despite several unanticipated delays. We like their subcontractors. We have not completed our punch list, but it seems small for this size project. We love the results and so do all who have seen them.

Steveworks renovated the kitchen and powder room in our 100+-year-old home down to the studs. Because we made some changes to traffic flow and walls, it was more like an entire first floor living space renovation. They and their team of subs (more on that below) did fantastic work but just as important, they were great communicators. They were very good at managing our expectations on the most important aspects of the project: time and cost. When a snafu did happen, which was rare, they were right on top of it and always kept us informed. The carpentry work that Steve, Asher and their team did was excellent. They were able to reproduce original trim perfectly, where needed. Their subs did excellent work as well and were professional and reliable. Tova came up with the idea to reconfigure the main entry into our kitchen and it completely transformed the space. We gained a more usable floor plan but kept the features of our home that give it character. A nice bonus - Steveworks are good people! Our family looked forward to seeing them every day. We wouldn't hesitate to use them for our next project.

Steveworks did a major renovation of our master bedroom, master bath, master walk-in closet, as well as converting our attic into a third floor guest room with bath. It was a major undertaking and Steveworks did a wonderful job. We really appreciate the professionalism and client service exhibited by Steve, Tova, Asher and the rest of the team. They were timely, responsive, sensitive to our requests -- and they were also just a pleasure to interact with on a daily basis! We really appreciate how capably they guided us through the whole process.

Love working with this truly family business--father, mother and son! Honest, straightforward, take genuine pride in their good work. They re-did our front porch. Great about recommending options but not being 'pushy' about it. Did not try to add on more cost by e.g. saying we did not need to replace some of the rails, but could rather re-use them, and keep portions that had no rot, etc. Even added on extras like staining the bench to match new mahogany porch, and making a pallet to hold stacked wood. Beautiful finished product.

It was a pleasure working with Steve, Tova and the entire Steveworks team on our renovation project. Steve renovated a master bedroom and bathroom for us ten years ago and we were happy to have him return to do a second job. The Steveworks team is wonderful! It's a great family business, supplemented by really well chosen subcontractors who all seem to be lovely people as well as highly professional, skilled, and patient workers. Steveworks did a gut renovation of our kitchen and master bathroom, built custom built-in bookshelves in our living room, and added a new zone to our HVAC system. All of the work turned out wonderfully and the process of working with them was seamless. Steveworks took responsibility for the few mistakes/miscommunications that were made and made everything perfect in the end. They have great advice about ecofriendly products and excellent creative advice about design. Highly recommended!

Working as a kitchen designer with Steve and Tova as the contractors is a real pleasure. They are incredibly thorough, conscientious, friendly, customer oriented and good partners in problem solving. We have worked on two projects together and I hope for more in the future. No hesitations with saying they are an A team!

Steve and crew took a very small, dark interior bathroom and turned it into a beautiful, airy spa-like space. I can hardly believe the room's size has not been changed at all! Super calming with a place for everything. With his in-house architect/partner's advice on some details (and just holding my hand on others that I made....) everything turned out beautiful. I love looking into and using the space. He installed shoji screens in the bedroom. It opened up the space and extended t he peaceful feeling. Steve's sub-contractors were respectful, capable and quiet (I work from home....) and did excellent work. A good experience, down to the last details.

I have been working with Steveworks as their electrician for over twelve years. Steve is very organized, safety conscious and always stresses the satisfaction of his clients. Steve and his crew approach all their projects as a team with his subcontractors making it a pleasure to work with them. Steve is not your average general contractor he is also aware of new products on the market to keep the environment safe for future building. Steve, Tova, Asher and the crew were extremely professional and responsive. They were easy to get in touch with and thoughtful and flexible about developing solutions, both proactively and reactively. They consulted us about any change they had to make so there were no surprises and found the balance of how much we wanted to be included in the design process vs how much we wanted them to lead. We are very happy with the work they did, which was finishing half of our basement. We look forward to setting it up to move in!

I am very, very happy with the renovation of my home thanks to Steve Works . Steven is very good at explaining what he does. He listened to my ideas & concerns and kept me fully informed and up to date through out the process. Steve met with me to discuss costs and provided very detailed budget options in an organized way that allowed me to make smart decisions with a budget I can live with! Tova was especially helpful, actually accompanying me to tile stores and stone quarries helping me sort thought the overwhelming countertop and tile choices. Each person on Steve's team is really nice, pleasant, a specialized professional. They all know one another, which makes for a really productive atmosphere and I benefitted. The work was done within the budget and quicker than expected.

Honestly, I don't know where to begin. I was trying for a couple of years to hire a contractor to remodel a bathroom in my family home. Since I live 1000 miles away, it was difficult. Then, I found Steveworks. Steve and his better half, Tova, have been nothing short of amazing. They have designed and built a beautiful new bath, on time and on budget. And, they and all of their workers were a delight to work with. They were extremely considerate of everyone living through the project, They kept the job site clean and neat, packing everything away at the end of each day. We wound up expanding the project to incorporate insulating and finishing all of the basement walls. The results look fabulous. Their work was so good, I am already contemplating the next improvement to this 100+ year old home. In short, if you need a contractor for any reason, hire them. You will be glad you did!

Steve and his team did a terrific job on my kitchen. From the very start, Steve was punctual; if he couldn't make an appointment, he'd let me know the day before and not 5 minutes before. He was also very responsive to any questions or concerns I had. Once the the initial estimate was complete, he introduced me to his designer, Tova, who has a keen eye for detail, highlighting small changes that I may want to make. Tova was also very good at keeping me within my budget, offering a variety of choices that enabled me to do so. Any changes to the order, she was quick to highlight that this was not in the original budget, which was a nice way to manage expectations in terms of the cost of project. She did a phenomenal job from start to finish on the design, layout, and the overall feel for the kitchen. She was also very responsive to any worries or anxieties I had during the renovation. The project manager, Asher, was sensitive to any issues I brought up, and also has a keen eye for detail, ensuring the highest quality of work was being completed. Steve has a great team of sub-contractors who he's worked with in the past; there was minimal hang-time between subcontractors completing various phases of the project. What was also nice about working with Steve and his team is that the payments were made based on the completion of a project. I've heard stories about people making a 50% down payment, and then seeing their contractor in 6-12 months. I'll definitely be going back to Steve and his team for future projects!

Steve and his team fixed up our house for us! They added a laundry room to the first floor, renovated a small downstairs bathroom, made a hallway into a nice tiled mudroom, fixed some electrical issues, repaired a little water damage from last winter (and fixed the root problem so it won't happen again), and moved some ceiling lights around in the kitchen. Whew! Steve and Tova helped a LOT with design ideas as we worked through various options. Asher, the construction team, and all the subcontractors were all very friendly and did a great job. They left the house clean at the end of each day. They worked with us when we asked to reschedule "noisy" parts of the job around a couple family visits. I had special requests due to a new baby in the house, and they went above and beyond to accommodate. The only changes to the schedule and budget from what Steve originally told us were due to changes that my husband and I decided to make partway through. My only complaint is that we never got to meet Moxie the dog. It was a great experience and we're happy that we decided to work with this family team!

Our tenants needed porches (two front, two rear) and a bulkhead completely rebuilt, the wood on one side of the house replaced, and a broken water pipe replaced. Our house had a huge amount of internal (4 rooms) and roof damage from last winter. We also wanted to add a wood rail for safety around an outside staircase to our basement and a roof with detachable winter "walls" to prevent that stairwell from filling with snow and pouring into the basement as it melted. SteveWorks designed this entirely new structure for us, showed us the computer-generated images, and built it. (see photo) The SteveWorks schedule was already tight, of course, because so many other people also had winter damage, but they knew the tenants' situation was urgent and managed to make even the two other projects happen in a timely way. The cost for all three extensive projects was just over $55K. The results are beautiful.

Steve and his crew are very trustworthy, professional, and they aim to please. Steve is very thoughtful with his estimates. They care about quality and do not cut any corners. I always felt like I was leaving my house in good hands and never felt uncomfortable about not being home while they were working. I highly recommend working with this crew. Excellent workmanship and very polite, efficient and respectful crew. Steveworks designed and built our front external entryway. All issues (such as needing to address the rotted wood under the door) were well communicated. We are very pleased with the project. The only issue was that there was some ineffiency with the paperwork when it came to closing out the project with the town. I would definitely hire Steveworks again.

Steve and Asher designed and constructed several built-in and expanded pieces for our kitchen and back entryway. The bulk of the in-house construction was done by Asher and his team. For our kitchen island project, they took off a huge piece of granite, expanded the cabinets underneath, built shelves, and then installed an enormous and beautiful piece of maple. Sorry we don't have a great photo up yet of that. For the back entrance project, they took out an old heater, installed a smaller profile one, and built a bench/cubby structure. Overall, these guys are great. They are excellent communicators, and each has a unique style and perspective. They work well together. They're personable and funny and realistic. They're honest! The planning process was a real pleasure. They did a great job of using what they knew about us and our lifestyle to imagine the design. We especially appreciated Steve's commitment to generating ideas and his eagerness to talk about this and other myriad projects we might have in our dreams. He's an admirably big thinker, but he stays on target with cost and is incredibly tuned in to the efficiency and sustainability of a house. The building phase was also delightful. I happened to be working from home for much of the time Asher was here with his crew, and I appreciated how down to earth, professional, and creative he was. A few times, questions would come up while they were working and the answer would cause him to shift gears dramatically...he was patient and easy going when these transitions happened. He appeared to be a great leader, and everything got done in a timely fashion. Asher--and all--were also incredibly respectful of my--then quite little--baby girl (and dog!) who were in the house while they were here. In both cases, we arranged to cut some of the cost by doing the last steps of work ourselves (sanding, painting, staining, and installing hardware.) They were more than open to this and were helpful in giving advice while we finished the jobs. The structures feel super sturdy, and they look great. We have recommended them to friends (and will continue to do so!) and hope to get them back for more work in the not-too-distant future.

I hired Steveworks after a gutter fell off of my house during a bad winter. Steve and the crew came right over, fixed the hole left by the falling gutter and diagnosed the cause of the problem. They not only fixed the problems with my gutters but also with some insulation in the attic and new shingles in many places where rot had accumulated, my house looked really good. The best part is the insulated attic and the other suggestions they had to make my house more energy efficient is really working. During last winter, (storms of 2015) my house was warmer and had less ice damns then ever before. Steveworks is great to work with, the crew is highly skilled and easy to have around. I highly recommend them for your next project.

We hired Steveworks to redo the front and back decks of our home. Steve worked with us prior to the start of the project to explain our options for various materials and what the trade offs would be for each. While the guys were working they were respectful of our needs and of those of our neighbors. We have no complaints. In fact, we kind of missed having them around when they finished. And the decks are beautiful! We have gotten many compliments and seeing the decks as we enter and exit our house makes us happy every day! This is the third project we have done with SteveWorks (the previous two being a kitchen renovation and new windows.) We hope to have them back for the next project as well.

Steve was to build the stairs between our family room an kitchen. The original builder made the steps uneven and when they were pulled apart they found that there was no insulation and an opening to the outside. The new steps and bookcase look like they have always been there and no one has a problem with the steps. The steps have a proper run and rise to make it easy even for the elderly people that visit. The crew was prompt, cleaned-up every day so that the area was usable. Even with all the snow this past winter and the inability to get around the crew was able to finish the job in a timely manner. Thank you Steve and crew!!!

We needed to rebuild our rather large and complex outdoor deck - comprised of 3 separate areas, 2 of which have bulit in benches. From the bidding phase to the cleanup phase, Steveworks was a total pleasure to work with. Smart, thoughtful, flexible, cost-conscious, meticulous. During the work they found some unexpected (and unrelated) problems - and managed those perfectly also. They finished the project on time and on budget - at a level of quality one rarely sees. I am, in part, a teacher at the postgraduate level. When I read or write recommendations I like to see or include something negative to prove that the picture is well-informed and honest. In this case, though, I would have to lie to include a negative. We would work with them again in a nanosecond. No reservations whatsoever.

From beginning to end it was a pleasure to work with Steve, Asher and the rest of the Steveworks team. The idea of a mudroom had been in my head from the time my family moved in three years ago -- but the feasibility of making the mudroom a reality didn't take shape until I spoke to Steve while he was working on a job at a neighbor's house. One thing led to another, a budget estimate, design sketches, wood samples, trim samples, stain samples and paint samples...and now we have a finished product we are incredibly proud of. Steve was friendly and open and he and Asher both were inquisitive about getting the product that met our vision and the reality of the space and budget and unflustered accomodating last minute changes with aplomb. We used Ideabooks from Houzz to iterate through different design visions and Steve did a great job of remaining in contact about the timing of work and when we would need to make accomodations (we have two small children) for work going on in the mudroom or paint smells coming from the mudroom. This was our first renovation experience and Steve and Steveworks made it a pleasure. I recommend them highly.

Steve redid our entire kitchen, and was a pleasure to work with. From the beginning, he made sure we understood the scope of the work - including work that we might consider because we had walls and the ceiling open - and explained upfront when the plan had to change, and why. Communication was never a problem with Steve. Steve and Asher were also happy to explain what they were doing, and why, at any point in the process, whenever we asked. Without making me feel dumb for asking. I especially appreciated Steve’s patience with me while I worked through deciding whether or not to repurpose one of the old kitchen cabinet doors in the new kitchen. Steve understood why I wanted to do this (the cabinet was original to the house, looked great, and would have been a nice reminder of the kitchen we were losing), and became a design partner, discussing alternate ideas with me. Steve was either always on site, or came by at the end of the day to check on work that his subcontractors had done. In that case, he always noted where work was subpar, and made sure it was fixed (I should note that this didn’t happen often). But the main thing I liked about working with SteveWorks is their integrity. I trusted that when Steve suggested doing something a certain way, he wasn’t looking to make more money. It was the right way to do it, and it would last, meaning less money in the long term. This integrity extends to Steve’s subcontractors. They’re just as detaied-oriented as Steve is. They do high quality work, and are happy to explain what and why. Finally, Steve, Asher, and the rest of the crew were all respectful. They knew that their workplace was our home, and treated it as such. I’d work with Steve again in a minute.

It was a really lucky day when I asked our mechanic if he knew a good contractor, and he gave us Steve’s name. He is very knowledgeable, creative, highly skilled, incredibly hard working, meticulous in his attention to detail, punctual, flexible, honest, and a real pleasure to have around – by far the best contractor we have ever had! There was a ramshackle, enclosed porch attached to the back of our 160-year-old house that had no heat and was beginning to rot. Steve tore it down, opened up the back wall of the house and rebuilt the old footprint as a kitchen extension, transforming a dingy, unusable space into a stunning enhancement to our house, with skylights and floor to ceiling windows on three sides, creating bright and beautiful areas for sitting, as well as eat-in dining. The addition is also highly energy efficient, with numerous small touches that are hidden (most contractors probably wouldn’t have done them) but provide additional weatherization and other benefits. During our negotiations, Steve provided detailed plans and graphic CAD drawings of our new space, before we committed to building. We told him what we wanted and how much we could spend; he listened and then figured out a way to provide a high-quality space for just that price. He limited the disruption to our lives and was very sensitive to green issues, including limiting toxicity to protect my chemically-sensitive wife. He also protected our existing garden that we had spent years developing, not an easy task since our garden adjoined the space he tore down and rebuilt, and it was a very small work area. Steve had terrific people working for him who were uniformly polite and hardworking. The project ended up right on budget, with additional costs only for things we added. We are ecstatic about our new space that greatly enhances the quality of our lives on a daily basis, and we loved working with Steve, from start to finish. He gets an A+!

Steve did a complete gut and replace of my kitchen, a $60K job, and more recently, redesigned any completely rebuilt my deck. On the kitchen, Steve did demolition, including moving a wall, hardwood floors, plumbing, electric, tile work, and all installation of cabinets, appliances, etc. Work on both jobs was done on budget and on-time, and it was a pleasure to work with Steve throughout the process, including the 2 months he was in the house daily working on the kitchen. Steve kept the worksite (and rest of house) as clean as possible and also at made certain we knew what was going on and that all the decisions we needed to make were decided on time so that he could efficiently do what he needed. So, very good management of both projects and an excellent results. All of Steve's subs were top notch. Though he does things as inexpensively as possible, Steve is committed to doing the job right and at a high level of quality. This shows in the materials he uses as well as in his own craftsmanship and in that of his subs. Our kitchen floor came out beautifully, the tile work is impeccable, and we have gone back to Steve’s electrician to do other work for us. Our new oiled mahogany deck is beautiful. In all, I recommend Steve very highly. He would be my top choice for any future work we have done in the house.”

“Steve’s work is excellent. The work that he did for us involved having insulation blown into the walls, a complete stripping of the existing shakes, sealing the exterior of the house with solid foam insulation followed by Hardie Board clapboards. In addition to that work, we had new windows installed on the ground floor (with the old sash weight cavities filled in with foam). We also had an existing (and quite horrible) concrete porch removed and a new mahogany deck put on, including new stairs and railings, and we had a new basement bulkhead built. We learned some ‘interesting things’ about our 100 year old house as the work progressed, as one might expect. For example, there had been a fire (probably around 1930 or so) that involved the front of the house. This likely was the root cause of the concrete porch that had been added around that time. In the 1950s or 60s, when a new top pad was poured, however, the drainage was neglected. Over the next 50 years this caused the sill across the front of the house to rot away. We discovered this during the demolition for the new deck. Steve’s solution for replacing the sill was very effective, and saved us the considerable extra expense that would have ensued from needing to jack up the house. These sorts of surprises always come up with old houses – but Steve was completely up front about any extras (such as the new sill), and we never had any problems with negotiations over the costs. We used our yard for the material, and Steve was quite gentle with the landscaping around the house. We expected some damage to the front lawn – and had our expectations met :) It’s recovered this year and is equally as bad as it was before the construction. The work took slightly longer to complete than we originally thought, but some of this was due to the weather (which will not be a problem for an indoor job), and such things as the sill. We stayed in the house throughout the project (with one 10 day vacation) and there were no problems. The house looks great (we just had it reappraised for a re-fi and it came in higher than we had thought). Our heating bills this past winter were just a bit over half of what they were last year. Overall the quality of the work was very high. The work- site was always cleaned at the end of every day. Steve was very easy to contact when he wasn’t on site. His crew always showed up as scheduled and did a thorough job. We relocated to California about three years after Steve did the work. Our house was on the market for less than 36 hours and sold over the asking price. I'm sure that the work that Steve did was a major factor in the appeal of the house. After interviewing several contractors, we are so glad we hired Steve and his crew to completely rebuild and expand our 1950s kitchen in our 1920s fixer-upper. Steve was incredibly detail oriented, yet flexible and patient in working with and advising us as we designed most of the kitchen and small addition project ourselves. He did everything possible to be respectful of our budget, even as we ran into a few (to be expected in an older home) small surprises. His advice was invaluable, and responsiveness immediate. Moreover, he agreed to work with our plumber with whom we are friends and already felt very comfortable with working on our home. His other subcontractors, including work on tile, plastering, and electrical, were all as pleasant and reliable as Steve himself. Steve was omnipresent; always making sure the job got done right no matter what stage it was in. Steve always made sure to make any touch ups needed after the subcontractors finished their work. Steve and his crew were not only nice to have around, but created a safe and even fun atmosphere while we lived through this major renovation and necessary disruption in our home. With their diligent work, we went from a cramped, awkward, and outdated kitchen, to one we love and doubles as both functional and sorely needed social space that our modest home previously lacked. Steveworks turned our ideas into such a great kitchen that we promptly hired them to completely renovate our dated bathroom. Steve worked with us, our sometimes quirky house, and a very tight budget to give us a dramatically improved space. We highly recommend Steveworks to anyone who is considering hiring a contractor.
