Studio MMA Architecture + Design

We really enjoyed working with MMA Design for our new build. They were easy to work with from the beginning. Vouli and the team quickly understood our needs. They made relevant recommendations throughout the process, not only about the building and indoor spaces but also about choices for materials, providers and more, that aligned with our values. They were also very responsive no matter how small or big our questions were. We are glad we worked with them on such an important project; a home for our growing family.

Godefroy took the time to listen to our desires and priorities and incorporate them into his designs. His ideas are thoughtful and creative. He has a wonderful imagination for space, sympathy for the surroundings, but most important, he remained extremely flexible and responsive to our needs throughout the project. He is highly collaborative, client focused and a pleasure to work with.

We were looking to redesign our home, a triplex on two levels, in the Rosemont-Petit Patrie area of Montreal. We researched several companies and liked the designs we found on Studio MMA Architecture + site. We also are eco-conscious, so the fact that they designed MEC’s building was a big selling point. What we appreciated about MMA was their willingness to collaborate with us in creating our dream home. We met with Godfrey and briefed him. Their first design was very close to what wanted but we had some tweaks to the design. We met to talk through the changes that we envisioned and their final design really nailed it. Throughout the process we were impressed with their attention to detail & budget and their willingness to listen to their client (a novel idea to other companies). C'est à l'équipe Studio MMA que nous avons confié la conception des plans de notre notre projet triplex et ce fut une des meilleures décisions que nous avons prises ! Une toute nouvelle expérience pour nous et un très gros projet, refaire en entier un triplex et rajouter un étage. L'équipe à su nous rassurer tout au long du projet, même jouer le rôle de psy quand le stress nous rendait visite parfois. Toujours à l'écoute, travaille impeccable, méthodique mais aussi très créatif et de bon goût. Le respect de nos préférences personnelles fut aussi très appréciés. Ils ont aussi un réseau de professionnels avec qui ils travaillent tel que ingénieur en structure, contracteurs etc. Avec Studio MMA, c'est vraiment un clé en main sans soucis. Un gros merci particulier à Godefroy qui a vraiment été là pour nous. Une équipe pleine de talent avec qui c'est plaisant de travailler. Je les recommandes sans hésitation.

Une belle équipe de professionnels de l'architecture, à l'écoute de vos besoins, réactifs et créatifs avec le soucis du détails... que peut-on rêver de mieux!?! La mission visait à la refonte globale d'un chalet de 1939 pour s'adapter aux attentes actuelles en terme d'espaces à air ouverts, des volumes résolument plus contemporain orientés vers le lac, des extensions selon zonage pour augmenter la capacité d'accueil avec un accompagnement jusqu'à l'obtention du permis de construire auprès de la mairie.

J'ai engagé Studio MMA pour nous accompagner (une maman et ses trois grands) dans la transition de la banlieue vers le Plateau Mont-Royal. Ils nous ont aidé à convertir un duplex en cottage de 4 chambres à coucher. Nous avons tout de suite aimé la sensation, les hauts plafonds et les éléments d'origine de la maison mais la transformation allait être majeure et demander beaucoup de créativité. Studio MMA nous a accompagné tout au long du processus (qui évoluait dans toutes les directions ) avec beaucoup d'écoute, de patience et de solutions. J'ai apprécié leur souci de choisir des matériaux nobles, de qualité et durables. L'imagination et les croquis étaient au rendez-vous lorsque nous avons dû créer les 4 chambres au 2e étage. Un résultat bien réussi finalement. Ils nous ont aidé à remodeler le projet lorsque les premières soumissions se sont avérées plus élevées que le budget. Ce fut un gros projet exigeant mais nous apprécions les bonnes idées du concept et la qualité des travaux et matériaux à tous les jours! Je recommande vivement l'équipe de Studio MMA!

Ce projet de garde-corps bibliothèque à été conçu dans l’esprit d’un geste continu qui est devenu un élément central de l’espace de vie qui se répercute dans nos trois escaliers: entrée, étage central et mezzanine. Le concept de carrés aléatoires est repris dans la mezzanine. L’idée d’y ajouter du verre coloré a rendu le tout lumineux, aéré, et chaleureux. Grâce à ce projet unique et original nous avons donné du caractère et de la beauté à notre espace de vie. Chaque jour, c’est avec bonheur que nous admirons selon la luminosité, le reflet des carrés de verre coloré sur le mur! Il ne faut pas hésiter à embaucher des professionnels qui sauront réaliser ce que vous souhaiter en assurant la solidité de l’ouvrage et lui donner des lignes architecturales qui s’intégreront bien.

The team at Studio MMA was outstanding throughout our project. We approached the team with a significant and complex project in NDG that required genuine vision. We had approached a few other architects who were either far too narrow-minded and lacking in ideas, or else others who simply overtook the project. MMA struck a perfect balance between thoughtful and creative approaches, while also remaining disciplined in terms of both our financial and structural constraints. Their integrated design approach also meant that we were in touch with contractors at the outset, who helped refine the project. These guys are just great. They're honest, communicative, inspiring and dedicated people. Exactly the kind of people you want on your side in a big renovation.

Nous avons engagé les architectes de Studio MMA pour planifier la rénovation et l’agrandissement de notre maison à paliers des années 50. Nous avons eu le plaisir de collaborer avec Rob et Godefroy, tous deux très sympathiques et qui ont su nous mettre en confiance. Nous sommes très satisfaits du résultat. La maison a été modernisée et est encore plus lumineuse, grâce à l’ajout de pièces très fenestrées. L’équipe de studio MMA s’est montrée très disponible durant tout le projet, pour répondre à nos questions, faire des ajustements ou nous fournir des références. Ce fut un plaisir de travailler avec cette équipe, et nous n’hésiterions pas a recommander leurs services!

We hired mma studio to Help us transform a house with 2 appartements Into a single one. They made the plans, helped us with the design and helped us with the contractor at the start of construction. They listen very well and they have a friendly and collaborative approach. It was a great experience all around.

The team at Studio MMA (Rob & Godefroy) did a great job reviving our 1950s split level into an incredibly designed home. We wanted more natural light and to reuse the stone from the original facade and they delivered. The new windows flood the house with morning sun and we feel that, not only did they respect the original design of the house, they enhanced it. When receiving our renovation permit, it was commented by the Town that the construction plans were high quality. When looking for a contractor, the high quality of plans meant very competitive bidding since all the details were included. We have heard horror stories of minimal construction plans resulting in lots of extra charges due to unknown details - that was not our experience with Studio MMA. They were great to work with and we definitely recommend Studio MMA.

We added a mezzanine and a roof deck. The stairs leading to the mezzanine are beautiful and very design. They have a modern and sleek look that fits perfectly with our classic interior. They did a great job blinding both looks. MMA did the overview of the entire project from the drawings, the choice of materials to the follow up with the contractor. They are also a very friendly team and return calls and emails promptly. We already recommended MMA to some of our friends.

My husband and I approached studio MMA to reconfigure our 750 sqft bungalow and further extend the living space. Both Rob Miner and Godefroy Meyer were closely involved in every step of the project. They presented to us 3 complete plans each with district features reflecting our needs and wishes and of course our budget. They helped us get the required permits from the city and helped us choose a contractor. Godefroy closely worked with us to follow up progress and inspect major steps during the construction phase and to resolve all the issues and questions. The result was a clean, simple and beautiful design, fully reshaped first floor and added a new second floor. We have been there for 6 years now and the space feels always amazing. The Studio MMA team helped us to conceive and design the renovation for our condo. The results far exceeded our expectations, and the collaboration with them was rewarding. Their advice saved us from making several wrong design decisions, and resulted in a space that is a pleasure to live and work in. The team is easy to work and communicate with, and importantly, they listened closely to our considerations. Budget estimates and costs were in line with our expectations.

Nous avons approché studio MMA car nous voulions un projet qui soit de qualité et très durable. Leur expertise en projets certifiés LEED nous a attiré vers eux. Notre maison, bien que récente, avait une façade arrière qui se détériorait prématurément et causait des problèmes de surchauffe dans les chambres. L'ancien garage attenant devant être démoli, nous en avons profité pour revoir le projet dans l'ensemble. Rob et Godefroy ont très bien cerné nos besoins et nous ont proposé plusieurs solutions élégantes qui venaient résoudre tous nos problèmes. Ils ont pris en compte nos goûts esthétiques et sont venu nous proposer une architecture moderne qui nous a beaucoup plu. Par la suite Godefroy a préparé des plans très minutieux qui prennent en compte chacun des détails architecturaux. MMA ont apporté leur connaissances très poussées en étanchéisation et isolation thermique ce qui nous permet aujourd'hui d'avoir un bâtiment durable et peu énergivore. Un grande attention fût portée au détails d'étanchéisation des ouvertures, et à l'isolation. Les techniques proposées par MMA dépassent de loin les standards de l'industrie et les pratiques usuelles des entrepreneurs. C'est ce qui fait la différence entre un bâtiment "normal" et un bâtiment écologique et durable. Les mesures et détails des plans étaient très exactes, ce qui nous a bien aidé pendant la construction. Le travail d'équipe avec Godefroy fut également exemplaire, au moindre ajustement/changement de matériaux de ma part, j'ai senti une ouverture et une collaboration afin d'arriver au meilleur résultat. Enfin les problèmes que nous avions (garage, surchauffe, étanchéité, accumulation de neige devant la porte, revêtement peu durable) sont tous réglés et nous sommes très satisfaits du résultat sur le plan pratique et esthétique. Un point qui fait que j'enlève une étoile: j'aurais aimé plus de suivi et de transparence sur les coûts d'honoraire, car mon budget initial a été dépassé sans que je m'en rende compte. En conclusion: très bon travail, je vous remerci encore et vous souhaite de très beaux projets pour l'avenir!

Studio MMA planned the complete renovation of a duplex into a single family home. The team's understanding of our needs, its precise work and attention to details, as well as its great spirit and outstanding taste, made our collaboration truly wonderful.

Nous avons fait appel à l'aide de Studio MMA pour refaire entièrement le rdc de notre duplex. Des la première rencontre Rob avait très bien cerner nos besoins. Nous devions tout refaire. Changer la cuisine de place, refaire les ouvertures extérieurs arrières, refaire la salle de bain et aussi ajouter un escalier pour accéder au sous-sol. Les premiers plans de Maude étaient rempli de merveilleuses idées auxquelles on n'avait jamais penser. Nos délais étaient extrêmement courts puisque nous attendions un premier bébé. Mais tout s'est enchaîner à la perfection. Des plans à la demande de permis, de la recherche d'entrepreneur à la fin des travaux, tout s'est bien passé! We contacted Studio MMA after spotting a home in our neighbourhood (Plateau Mont-Royal) which had been renovated and extended by them. We met with Rob Miners and Godefroy Meyer and began working on the plans for the renovation and extension of our new but very old home. They designed the new flow of the house with great attention to our needs and wishes. They added great design ideas, some of them incorporating repurposed materials from the house. Rob and Godefroy provided guidance and support throughout the administrative process of obtaining our permit which was crucial in our case. They introduced us to a wonderful contractor who performed the work from top to bottom. We contacted Rob and Godefroy again when we needed a design for the central staircase railings and bannisters and they provided us with a design we were thrilled with.

When I was referred to Studio MMA (first experience with an architect), I explained to Rob Miners my dreams and wishes. Although rather vague, Studio MMA came up with exactly what I meant. It was a daring project for the city of Pierrefonds. Studio MMA's advice and follow-up during extension and renovations was excellent. I was kept closely informed and they were always available to answer any questions. I strongly recommend this wonderful team!

These architecs have designed our mountain cottage in the Eastern townships (Sutton) in Quebec. The experience has been most satisfactory. The main architect, Mr. Rob Miners, and his team were very attentive to what we wanted, and translated as accurately as possible the vision we had for our project. They were also concerned to produce a high quality design which facilitated the work of the contractor afterwards. We worked with them during construction to supervise the construction site at key moments, which allowed us to feel confident concerning the quality of the work. We recommend this group of architects as they are dynamic, connected to current trends in design, and environmentally aware.

Nous avons reçu de la part de Studio MMA un service personnalisé hors-pair. De la mise en place du rêve à sa conception nous nous sommes sentis épaulés par des gens qui ont fait que nous vivons depuis un peu plus de 3 ans dans une maison LEED or qui répond à nos besoins.

We hired Studio MMA to design the plans for our home renovation - conversion of a duplex into a single family home. They were efficient, thorough, professional and creative. They also put together a useful spec booklet detailing all the work that was to be done in the reno. and the materials that were to be used, and helped us in pricing out the cost of the work ahead of time, so we could be careful about which things we could and really could not afford to do. Design-wise, the house has worked really well. Their suggestions for planning and aesthetics were all really sound. My only criticism would be that there were some errors in the spec booklet -- stuff that had been included from other jobs that did not apply to our job, and other things that had been omitted, and this led to some problems later on for us with our contractor. So a little more oversight over the preparation of that material would have been good, but in general, we were very pleased with their work.

Provided concepts that were very creative, met the brief, and blended well with other older properties in the vicinity.. MMA offered great insight into efficient use of energy and other environmental considerations which could be incorporated at the design phase - such as type of insulation and the use of roof tiles made from recycled materials. The design budget was respected and deadlines were met. MMA also attended the public hearing for the council review of the project, providing invaluable support in the interpretation of the plans and the visuals of the project. The specifications were very detailed, and MMA were also able to give very informative guidance on the cost elements, and were prepared to meet with contractors from time to time to assist in the resolution of any interpretive issues. A great company to work with who quickly grasp the concept, provide elegant and practical solutions, and stand over their work,

Pour notre projet de rénovation, nous avons fait notre travail de recherche pour trouver des architectes et notre choix s’est arrêté sur Studio MMA, nous avons aimé leurs projets, leur approche et la qualité de leur travail. Le projet consistait à rénover notre triplex construit en 1918 dans un logement unifamilial contemporain, l’ équipe Studio MMA a été à l’écoute de nos besoins et nous a accompagnés tout le long de notre projet de rénovation qui a duré environ un an et demi. For our renovation project, we did our research work to find architects and our choice fell on Studio MMA, we liked their projects, their approach and the quality of their work. The project involved renovating our triplex built in 1918 in a contemporary single-family dwelling, the team Studio MMA was attentive to our needs and accompanied us throughout our renovation project that lasted about one and a half year. Studio MMA did a very professional job in every step of our project which enabled the success of the project within budget and on time, we were very reassured to have professional architects with us who anticipated the risks and were able to guide us to avoid the pitfalls that may involve a renovation project. We had the impression of working with them as a team and we are extremely pleased with the results.
