“Mrs Maria Xagorari is a gifted painter whose artistic and technical expertise is sustained by deep knowledge in the field of the history of Arts. She offered her potential to a number of significant projects regarding the restoration of 19th cent. public buildings, namely the magnificent Town Hall and the famous city's Opera (Apollo Theatre), as well as the luxurious Velissaropoulos Mansion, now seat of the Cyclades Labour Center, in the fine city of Hermoupolis, Syros island. She distinguished herself not only in conserving the historic murals of those listed buildings, but mainly as recreating extensive, long ago destroyed sections of their decoration, performing both stylistic accuracy and artistic perfection. She absolutely satisfied the demands of the mentioned public projects, which were approved by the Ministry of Culture and financed by E.U. and national funds. Her work is thus a valuable contribution to the conservation of our national cultural heritage.”
