My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.

About Us

Based in Dallas, Tx, our studio is dedicated to the craft of bespoke, private residence design and construction. Rooted in site specific design and construction practice, our work explores the refinement of placemaking through modernism and minimalism. We approach building design from the outside in, seeking opportunities to tailor for individual perspectives and preferences in each unique context. Working together with a team of trusted consultants, we guide the progression of our projects from the first concept sketch through construction document creation, permitting, construction and landscape installation. Since 2020, 90% of the studio design work is constructed by our partner company Taproot Building Co.

Blake Smith is truly an amazing architect. His creativity and superb attention to detail are matched by his deep understanding of materials and practical matters such as respecting his clients' vision and budget. Blake took the time to understand our needs and desires, and went above and beyond to design a home that my family and I will be able to enjoy throughout the years and various stages of life. We thoroughly enjoyed the design process, are thrilled with the end result, and cannot recommend Blake Smith and Taproot Studio highly enough.

Do yourself a favor and hire Taproot Studio as your architect. I've had the privilege to work with Blake on a number of projects over the last few years and am always amazed at the brilliance of his designs. The caring and thoughtful way he brings the homeowner's desires to life in an architecturally significant way is always a joy to watch. Working with Blake is fun and easy, Not only will he produce a complete design, he'll collaborate with the builder to make sure the execution is performed to his high standards. I can't wait to do my next project with Taproot Studio and highly recommend Blake and his team at Taproot Studio.

We asked Blake to consider turning our tired and well worn lake house into a home we would be proud of and enjoy going to once again. Blake brought us into the present day look of a lovely family house on the water. We rearranged rooms, moved doorways, took down walls and installed a fabulous wall of windows looking out on the lake. He heard us when we described our ideal house and blended his knowledge and creative experience and gave us the absolute perfect lake home. The kitchen, the open den, the bathrooms and the back porch all have the improvements needed with functionality and beauty. We just couldn’t be happier with our new look.
