Hivemind is a cooperatively-owned general contractor based out of West Philadelphia, specializing in high-end residential construction and fabrication. We are a group of artists and craftspeople who came together through a mutual interest in creating beautiful, lasting work in a company setting that is fair and fulfilling for workers at all levels. We seek projects of unique and deliberate design, projects that demand exceptional craftsmanship, and projects incorporating green practices and technologies. We offer full-service project management, and whether you are working with an architect or starting from scratch, we guide clients through design, budgeting, permitting, and construction. We also are happy to travel for the right project, particularly if it's in a beautiful place. We moved into our new home a month ago after 9 months of construction and we would recommend Hivemind without hesitation. Our house turned out beautifully! The entire team takes a lot of pride in their work. They bring a high level of excellence and care to everything they do, and when things don’t go as planned, they take the time to troubleshoot alongside you. They’re responsive, transparent, and organized, which makes a huge difference during a long project like this. They also do a great job coordinating and vetting subcontractors, holding everyone to the same high standards as their core team. Most importantly, they’re genuinely kind, good people who make what can be a stressful process feel much more manageable. At times, it was even fun! We absolutely LOVE our home, and choosing Hivemind was one of the best decisions we made.

BluPath Design

Hive Mind was introduced to Passive House Standard on our historic retrofit. Cleaning up after an errant contractor, HiveMind completed reconstructing a 2 story bay to Passive House specifications. They were eager to learn and take on a challenge, I gave them their initial training, but their commitment led them to take the certification course and test. They have since earned their CPHB- certified Passive HosueBuilder training- a great feat for any serious contractor. Additionally, they did the millwork on our 2nd-floor luxury apartment. Since I've used them with other clients. We love their intelligence, passion, and skill. We love the co-ed group and their collaborative work ethic. They listen to great music while working, make great food on the job, and have a culture of quality that is laudable. I endorse them wholeheartedly. We hired them to redo 2 bathrooms in our house, including design work and demolition. The project included taking out a wall, moving some plumbing around, a window replacement, moving a door, and some beautiful custom woodworking. They were excellent from beginning to end, making some smart and thoughtful design suggestions while also giving us what we were looking for, helping us choose tile and fixtures, and even giving us some tile from a personal project that worked even better than what we selected. The workers were 100% trustworthy and conscientious about being in our space during the work, and were always responsive to our questions and concerns.

Our construction firm hired Hive Mind, who rescued this bay restoration and exterior window trim from a no-show sub-contractor. The project is a Passive House and required a higher level of attention to air-sealing and insulation than typical. It also has a historic designation and its requirements. The co-ed team was a pleasure to work with and were eagar to learn about Passive House Standard. They are smart, skilled and listen to great music.
