We chose Marek and his team to rehab our kitchen and attic space and we could not have been more pleased with both the experience, and the outcome. Marek and his team were meticulous in their communication, timelines, and quality. A&M is recommended for Nobility, Expertise and Courtesy. Marek and his team came to us from a recommendation of a fellow neighbor with a house of similar vintage. We live in a Chicago farm house in Ravenswood dating back to 1896, and contracted Marek to renovate 3 of our bathrooms, upon soliciting multiple competing bids. Nobility: A&M brought to our attention a discrepancy in tile pattern for our master shower. Admittedly the detail was small enough we probably would not have noticed. Marek advocated on our behalf and retiled the bathroom, with no additional cost to the project. Expertise: Our renovation required: Tile Installers, Plumbers, Carpenters, Handyman (Mauricio!). Work was executed with professionalism and we were never concerned about the quality of work. We had inquiries along the way and felt everyone knew their craft to a high degree. Courtesy: Marek and team made renovation projects as comfortable as possible. Communication was welcomed over text. We were well informed of scheduling as it pertained to our schedule. For these reasons we can recommend A&M to those who are looking for renovations. Over 6 months have passed since our construction and we are still just as pleased with the results.

I write this review to unconditionally recommend Marek Jajcay and A&M General Contracting for Chicago-area construction projects. If you’re a reader who’s short on time but considering a construction project, allow me to be brief and clear: you cannot go wrong by trusting your project to A&M. The company will do outstanding work for you. In April 2021, my spouse and I began searching for a contractor for a major outdoor construction project. We sought bids from a host of contractors on Houzz. A&M General Contracting was the winning bidder, not only because Marek was responsive and transparent, but also because he took the time to understand our vision and budget. (Frankly, several other contractors on Houzz were either unresponsive or unwilling to even consider our project given their oddly inflated sense of their own work and—in some cases—ridiculous pricing.) In contrast, Marek took the time to meet and talk with us, manage our expectations, and align on a plan that ultimately left us completely comfortable and confident that the work could be done to our satisfaction. The project included: tear-down and rebuild of our garage, full tear out of existing driveway, build of green space to replace existing driveway, construction of new 24x24 garage with full rooftop deck, tear-down of existing full-yard fence, construction of new fence, front walkway and porch replacement with stamped concrete, demolition of back brick patio and replacement with new stamped concrete patio, preparation of back yard area for new Heartland Shed installation, new second floor window replacements (six windows), James Hardie siding of new garage and house, rebuild of back sun porch, replacement of sun porch door, and installation of new Domadeco aluminum front door. In short, this was a huge project—a project we added onto during the process and which A&M General Contracting fully accommodated our changing needs/requests. I would also note that we live in Skokie, Illinois, and the permitting process in the Village of Skokie is, to put it mildly, both complicated and difficult. Marek expertly managed this entire process. It is no exaggeration to say we could not have done this without him. Marek’s employees and sub-contractors were careful, helpful, thoughtful, and respectful of our time and our property. Marek himself was frequently (weekly, if not daily as needed) on site to ensure that work was done properly and on time. Marek is a careful listener; he also has a keen sense of design. Often, we weren’t exactly sure what we wanted or what was possible, but at every turn Marek made suggestions that fit our design aesthetic and budget. In several cases he made suggestions that we had never considered, and that I know will in several instance save us time, money, and headaches down the line. If you want a project done in the Chicago area in a way that is first-class, that aligns with your wishes and your budget, A&M General Contracting is the company for you.

We very much appreciated the extensive work Marek and his team did in our Chicago home. He is simply the best contractor we have ever worked with. Not only was Marek very organized and competent, responding to our numerous emails and accomplishing the very extensive work we had at an extremely fast pace despite the challenges of pandemic labor shortages and supply chain issues. His staff is extremely polite, respectful, and careful. He is also creative, and has a natural sense of design, giving us very good advice on many aspects, and was a great collaborator with our designer. We appreciated it because it showed that he did not just want to get the job done but also ensure that it was done perfectly. He is also extremely personable with a great sense of humor so it was pleasant to work with him. There are many negative situations that can come up in these complex situations and we never experienced any with him. We trusted him completely and would definitely recommend him to anyone who wants their project done with competence, care, and respect.

I am an interior designer and architect and I worked with A&M on a recent remodel in Evanston and they are phenomenal. I wish they could be the GC on every one of my projects! They were very professional, very knowledgeable and just a great resource to have during any renovation. They were able to be creative with the client's budget and they did an impeccable job. This was the first time I showed up on a job site and I did not have to mark with blue tape any areas for correction. We worked directly with Marek and found him to be very communicative and he also has a great eye for design. Due to last minute supply issues, the owner made a change for a tile in the bathroom. Marek was very quick to bring to my attention that the new tile did not coordinate perfectly with the rest of the palette and we were able to quickly make adjustments to the design to create a new cohesive design. I was so impressed that Marek had such a keen eye for design and was willing to raise this into consideration rather than proceeding with the work to get it done as soon as possible. The project turned out beautiful and I hope to be able to work with them in the future.

Marek was wonderful to work with! He is very detail-oriented with costs so there were no surprises, and he's very trustworthy. He was always responsive in communicating with us, really cared that we were completely happy with their work, and was patient with us when we changed our mind on some things. His crew was super friendly, always on time, and very competent. They did an amazing job in rehabbing our kitchen, master bathroom, first floor bathroom, installing hardwood floors on second floor, refinishing the hardwood floors on the first floor, demoing a wall, etc. Would highly recommend them!

My Contractor was so professional and caring. He kept me abreast of daily operations and the cost was fair. My contractor went above and beyond our agreement and even made the design even better coming to life. His expertise and kindness I will forever remember. Marek and his team were professional, timely and always respectful while in my home. If you are looking to get something done but are discouraged by bargaining and mistrust in the industry, these are the honest, straightforward guys for you. Our project ended up costing LESS than what they estimated-giving us some extra money to get additional projects around the house done. I am so grateful to have found such a wonderful group for my contracting needs. Couldn't recommend enough!

A&M replaced damaged flooring in our basement, repainted the front porch, and did some other small repair work in the house. I was really pleased with the service. Marek provided a detailed estimate, got started on the work promptly, and finished on time and with no cost overruns. Marek shows integrity and honesty which are well beyond expectations for a contractor. I would highly recommend him for any project being considered.

It was a pleasure working with A & M General Contracting, they were hired to do a gut rehab on my building and the entire process was smooth and painless which doesn't happen often during gut rehab construction. Whenever I had an issue or change request I was able to get the owner on the phone and have these things scheduled to be completed within that same day. All the work was done professionally, clean, and 100% according to my stamped and approved drawings. I often visited my job site while A & M was working and tools were not sprawled out everywhere creating trip hazards, and at the end of every work day the site was completely free of any debris or trash. I'm not sure what anyone is looking for when selecting a contractor but if its a professional company that does the work right and fast and has great customer service then A and M General Contracting is the way to go.
