“The guys at Alabama Iron Works are talented, creative, and great to work with! We commissioned a metal coffee table as a wedding present for our best friends. Our friends have an entertainment room/bar at their house that, due to their Irish heritage, they had dubbed the "McConnell Pub". They had a couple small signs made, but we wanted to get them a really cool emblem that they could prominently display. The only direction I gave Jim was that I wanted it to be black and copper (to match their current decor) and to have an authentic Irish look. I tried to think of some Irish symbols that would mean something to the couple (borrowing from their family crest, ect.), but nothing I thought of was right. In a stoke of genius, Jim suggested the Claddagh, which was absolutely perfect! Since this marriage was the union of two families, we decided to put "McConnell Family Pub" on the table and incorporated their wedding date. Jim and his team finished the table beautifully - a smooth, glazed black top with raised shiny copper letters, and of course, the Claddagh. When we gave this present to our friends on the night before their wedding, the bride cried! Cried tears of joy! They were blown away that we would give them something so special, so uniquely fit for their family, and so beautifully crafted! They loved that we added "family" to the name of the pub, and said that it would forever more be called the "McConnell Family Pub". Now they just have to change their other signs to match. ;) I loved Jim's creative input as we went through this process. We went through several ideas before settling on the Claddagh, and he was happy to work with us until we found the perfect symbol. In the beginning, we were actually deciding between a wall hanging or a table. Jim came up with the idea to make the table top detachable and mount a hanging bracket on the back, so it can actually be hung if the couple wants. The craftsmanship was flawless!
