My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.

About Us

Bernhardt Contracting Ltd. is a high-performance multi-family, custom home, and commercial builder. Founded in 2007 by Mark Bernhardt, Bernhardt Contracting aims to create buildings that are sustainable and efficient by design. In the past three years, the company has built the first three Certified Passive Houses on Vancouver Island, the most recent completed in Fall 2016. Currently, another Passive House duplex is under construction in Victoria West, due for completion in Spring 2017. Bernhardt Contracting chose Passive house for its efficiency, evidence-based science, and affordability. Passive House achieves this standard with thicker walls which provide more insulation, careful design which orientates the building to provide the most solar gain, and triple-pane windows which collect heat from the sun in winter and are shaded externally in the summer. Passive Houses have simple, cost effective mechanical systems that provide a high rate of air exchange, providing a high level of comfort.

We've have had the pleasure to know Mark Bernhardt for 10 years; we've worked with him in both professional and personal capacities. Mark completed a renovation on our home after we had to fire the former contractor. He was efficient; always on time and worked quickly and strategically. He was honest; returned money to us from unused supplies. Mark is always professional and confident and has a friendly approach that puts people at ease. More recently we've worked with Mark and Bernhardt Contraction Ltd on three, new construction Passive Home developments. We were the real estate agents on the projects and have always been impressed with the high standards Mark sets for his crews and his product. He conducts himself with integrity, is responsive to questions and concerns and takes enormous pride in his work. Mark is a man of his word, which can be rare in the construction business, you can trust him and have confidence in his work and results.

Mark and his team were very professional and their work came in on time and under budget. Mark's team was willing to take on a small roofing job when other companies didn't bother to get back to me and it gave our strata peace of mind knowing we were working with our builder.

We purchased a Passive home that was in the early stages of construction from Bernhardt construction in May 2016. We gained possession of our new home in mid November after the occupancy permit was granted. We are 100% satisfied with our new home & have to say Mark & Rob Bernhardt have been fabulous to work with. They do quality work, are trustworthy, communicate extremely well & employ quality people. We highly recommend Bernhardt construction to all.
