Erik was great to work with. After one on-site visit to our 1940s farmhouse, he listened to what we wanted and created the perfect open layout for out kitchen and great room. It allowed for space to play, cook and socialize. Erik was quick and always responsive to our questions/concerns. I would use his services again in a heartbeat!

My husband and I didn't think we could ever LOVE our mundane 1998 ranch style house, but we deeply loved the property it occupied. From our first meeting we were impressed with Erik's ability to hear what we wanted; a modern design with great flow and superb connection to outdoor space. We also needed a space that could comfortably house our family of four, but wouldn't feel colossal when our kids were grown. He succeeded in every capacity. He had great ideas on finishes and design solutions but never pushed. We are so in love with this house! We highly recommend Platform Design.

We hired Erik at Platform Design Studio to redesign our small back patio and absolutely love it. Erik’s ‘backyard blues’ projects caught our attention with his creative approach to backyard problem areas. Erik helped us navigate our many (and sometimes contradicting) goals and paid multiple site visits to truly understand our thoughts and concerns. He took cues from our lifestyle and served up a simple and beautiful solution. The subtle angles of the structure are functional, effective and elegant. Our neighbors and guest are all blown away with how beautiful it turned out! The contractors and builders Erik works with are top notch and did an amazing job bringing the design to life.

We designed a kitchen for a house designed by Platform. We were really impressed with the architecture of the home! It had a great openness and made wonderful use of natural beams, especially given the Northwest location of the home. The home seemed like a natural extension of the landscape, not a building fighting with the land it inhabits. A very impressive designer!

First time working with an architect--and Erik was a pleasure. He's knowledgeable, respectful, and listens well. However, he has a vision and a different way of looking at things and we learned it was always beneficial to listen to and consider HIS opinions. In the end, we got the house we wanted--it really exceeded our expectations. The design is wonderful and we never thought we'd own a house like this. Hire Erik--you won't be disappointed!

When we decided to build a home we were reluctant to use an architect because we were afraid of the cost. Our experience working with Erik Becker turned out to be wonderful. Erik was able to quickly understand our needs and desires and designed a fabulous, midcentury modern home in a very timely manner that surpassed our dreams. He was easy to communicate with about changes and adjustments, responded promptly to phone calls and was very accessible. Erik worked very well with our builder and was frequently on site during critical times. He provided samples and suggested vendors; he made excellent suggestions but was never 'pushy' and was always supportive of our decisions. We have been in our house now for about 8 months and we couldn't be happier. We frequently have strangers ask us who designed our lovely home!

The idea for a home project actually started off as a Christmas present. This "gift of inspiration" to my wife was given partially because it was December 24th & I hadn't any other ideas but mainly it was a means for us to explore design modifications to our small 1905 farm house. The main hope being that we might eventually fix some flaws and reveal potential. Erik’s initial contribution was as much personal as it was professional. Through several f2f visits & Q&A email & phone, Erik crafted some design concepts that would solve the major form problems with the house (which desperately needed warmer and brighter spaces) as well as personalize the function of our household as an extension of how we live. The concept process was fascinating and ultimately produced the 3 – 4 stage transformation that we can pick off and work on over time. We moved forward with the 1st stage of the design in the spring of 2014, a landscape deck, patio & hot tub installation. This was our 1st and only experience with a home renovation project and, looking back, it was amazingly ambitious. My wife and I made the attempt to be actively involved in the myriad of decisions that need to be made but, with busy work travel schedules, eventually we resolved to either collaborate or outright defer all the design and other esthetics questions to Erik. The result exceeded our expectations - he did a fantastic job. We’ve learned that having a good architect is as important and valuable as the other ‘high-trust’ professional relationships - lawyer, tax accountant, doctor, etc. Erik has earned our trust and we couldn’t recommend Erik more highly – an exceptional talent.

Erik brought truly inspired design and a professional approach to the table throughout our process and struck a great balance between advocating for "design" while being sensitive to our ideas and budget. This made for a collaborative process that resulted in outcomes beyound our expecation. We were a little nervous about engaging the services of an Architect and interviewed half a dozen before deciding. Everyone had interesting projects to look at, but Erik also brought a level of experience that made us feel comfortable. He made a potentially stressful home building project into an exciting process that left us wanting to work with him again.

I hired Erik at Platform to design a kitchen remodel in my 1914 bungalow after seeing a new modern home he designed for a friend and a restaurant in the Pearl district n Portland, Or. I love the modern aesthetic of both these projects but also wanted to be respectful of the integrity of "this old house" i live in. Erik said, "don't be afraid to let this house breathe" which articulated the exact vision i was hoping to achieve. His respectful creativity came up with the perfect solution to marry the old and new. Tearing out a wall allows natural light to flood the kitchen and the new openness makes the kitchen a bright and cheery social center of the house. I appreciate his prompt communication, availability, and patience with both my endless questions and ponderings, which often lead to tweak in the design and he was respectful of my budget and kept me abreast as to where we stood with monies and time. My dream kitchen is on the way!

Erik totally nailed this thing and his efforts were greatly appreciated. I know it’s not easy to simultaneously challenge a client with fresh ideas while also listening to his or her input but he somehow managed to do it—with great result. Mr. Becker has an outstanding work ethic, knows his materials, thinks green, is sensitive to budget constraints, isn’t afraid of getting down in the dirt, and is a joy to work with. I’d happily work with Platform Design Studio again.
