I've always had my gas range near a window, at least in three different homes for the past 35 years. In my current kitchen, the gas range and sink are both directly under a large double casement window. No window coverings, but the windows do open and are open 99% of the time. Pros: I've never needed a range hood, the cooking area is conveniently near the sink, and I can see out while performing both tasks. Cons: On a windy day, the burner can blow out if on low heat. (Solution: close window until finished with low heat cooking). I stir fry a lot, so I just checked the part directly above with a wet fingertip. A tiny bit of dust, no grease. I do wipe down the window sill each time, which is no problem because I ran the backsplash tile over it. (Oops, just noticed that this was an old thread from 2012.)
