The multi colored pillow on the left is really tying in nicely with your black and white prints above the sofa. I would get a 2nd one for the opposite end of the couch, move the yellow one to the center, and add an additional red one on each side of the yellow. A solid colored rug in one of the least colors shown in the multi colored pillow would tie it all together

I love the new pillows. Remove the pillow that matches the sofa. It would look much better without it. Consider buying a rug (at least 5x7) to put on top of your carpet that echos the pillows and place the rug under your coffee table. If you get a larger rug, you can also put your sofa on top (or at least the front legs). Since the coffee table is glass, you'll get a lot of impact from a rug.

A throw blanket in the yellow/mustard color or green would look great, westelm.com has one in the "bean sprout" color, called "my favorite throw" that I like. Drape the throw over one corner of the couch and stack your pillows on top.

I love the antique hob nob glass you have on your coffee table, but you need something to give it more OOMPH. Use a colorful (red/orange?) laquered serving tray and stack a few coffee-table style books inside it, then place your glass dish on top. That will add color to your table and importance to your antique dish. It will look more eclectic and meaningful.

I think this space has great eclectic design potential!

Ah.. thanks for the additional photo! The hob nob glass looks great on top of the books already. I would probably add another solid color pillow if you wanted one more. I still think a throw would punch it up too. Now I can see that you have wood floors too--a new rug in a color that doesn't blend with the sofa would do wonders.

Definitely--I think that another gold print/solid gold pillow would look great. I am such a sucker for hob-nob...I try to make it fit in with my transitional designed house too.

Me too - I used to be solid contemporary, but am trying to add more vintage, eclectic pieces. So stick with the same print? The company (Villa Home) makes a couple others with various gold prints.

Either way--a different print would look nice too. They have great options--seeing your room, a different pattern in the same color (gold/yellow) would be fun.

Another idea--line the back of the corner cabinet with a wallpaper or fabric (wrapped around cardboard false panels) that brings out these colors would be fun also.

I agree with the comments above. You need a coloful rug and and a throw!

Adding a colorful rug and a throw would make this space great ( agreeing with City Girls Decor ) and because you have black and white paintings above the chair are black and white try finding some pillows with that same instinct, so they will reflect off of each other. Another thing instead of doing it that way is removing the pillows that match the sofa it self and try finding pillows that have the colors of your room. The coffee table should not have so much activity on it, maybe just a few books stacked on top of each other,etc.

Having a neutral colored couch means you can use ANY color. Mix them, mix different patterns too and don't just stick to one size. A long, narrow one would work. An area rug or throw would also be a great addition !

Lol i am agreeing with prune juice, in my house on my couch we have a nice square pillow and then in front of it is a nice ling narrow one which is a great addition. The only thing is make sure the pillow that is the square or bigger is not too poofy like your orange pillow with white cover is.

These pillows are used in one of our client's bedrooms, but they are a great example of wild patterns playing together. Happy designing!

I think your space looks great and you have a good eye. One thing I don't like is trying to sit on a sofa with too many pillows but I also know it IS all about the look. wow the change of pillows did a LOT! It looks a lot better!! you could hang curtains behind the couch as a sort of faux paint. It would take a lot of curtain rod length though.

I could see either of these picture set ups working for you (refering mainly to the rugs pictured) I think the rug definately needs to change... there are some cool rug/curtain stenciling DIY blogs out there to guide you through it if you wanted some drama without all the cost of a new rug...

And after comparing your most recent picture with the rugs I pictured, I think the ikea rug would give you a lot of bang for your buck - it would really make the pillows 'pop' and coordinate with the art you've already got. I think it would look rad. ;)

...one more post is all, promise ;) if you wanted to go with more vintage prints, you could swap the two side prints for some oranges (or red, hard to tell) and gold prints (just swap them in your exsisting frames) and that would give a simmilar color effect as the picture above with the ikea rug - the black center juju hat and the side red & orange ones. good potential here! :) there is adhesive (and easily removable) wrapping paper that hallmark makes - it works great for lining cupboards like the corner one you've got.

Even if you can't afford a new rug a throw always seems to add balance on the couch. (At least it feels that was to me)

A big mirror behind the couch with a colorful (pulling in the pillow colors) frame looks good, too, and reflects light.

I too have an oatmeal colored couch and am going to use aqua blue for the pop. Also, the addition of fabroc flowers on the pillows is a very popular trend here in Asia and I'm seeing it more and more in the US. They are easy to make, easy to attach and adds texture and interest to the ordinary. Using a few beads with them will punch them up too. With your color scheme, you could add pillows to match whatever mood you're in for the day! Google "fabric flower tutorials" or go to Youtube to see the possibilities. p.s. scarves tied around a boring pillow, with a lovely broach in the middle or positioned interestingly is an easy and inexpensive change.

I would get some graphic black and white fabric pillow covers to tie in with the artwork above the sofa; doing that will make a huge difference; keep what you have and add the black and white graphics to start with; I like to make zippered pillow covers that can switch out easily. And on my sofa, I have a bright chenille throw folded in half lengthwise and draped on the top so it falls down onto the length of the seat back; with the pillows it should brighten the space and tie it all together

I like all these ideas. I think a nice soft throw would look good too. Adds contrast. A black and white furry throw or a bright orange or red...

Carynerz everyone has given you have lots of great suggestions, but here is another. It's a great little trick which I often use if I'm unsure what colour I want to introduce to a room and it wont cost you a cent. Go to any of your wardrobes/linen closets or bathroom and pull out anything that is a colour you love. It could be a jumper, towel, bed sheet etc. which you then trial in the room you want to decorate.For intance I wanted to introduce turquoise into my loungeroom with throw pillows and had some bath towels in the colour I loved, so I just wrapped them around my current cushions to see how that colour looked on my couch. This is a really useful way to narrow down your choices with colour before you hit the shops to buy.

about the pillows alone, I would go with your black and white pictures-buy some inexpensive black and white (or 2 solid blacks, 2 solid whites) for each end of the sofa- and add a pop of color with the red in the center, and maybe a red and tan smaller accent pillow or some type of jewelry on the center pillow that will repeat the couch color. you can find inexpensive pillow like this at TJ Maxx, or Tuesday Morning, or even Walmart. inexpensive vintage costume jewelry (a brooch or earrings) can add some fun and unexpected pop to the room.

Not that you're asking my opinion about the artwork above the couch, but I think what's bugging me is the different sizes of the frames and the way they are placed...I would suggest either having all 3 pics framed the exact same size and placed in line....OR hang them differently and add some other pieces of artwork as well with the grouping. OR, (I'll shutty after this one), get an interesting shelf to place above the couch, painted in one of your accent colors and have the art resting on the shelf instead of them hanging on the wall directly. My fiance and I are both artists and I got him to build me a box-type shelf to go above our couch. It is wonderful, because you can change the artwork easily if you ever want to, AND you can also mix paintings with sculpture, or whatever trinkets you want to...a vase of flowers, a bowl, or whatever in the heck you want!

here's a bad pic of the idea i'm talking about.(lol)...this is right after we put the shelf up, so needless to say, the arrangement is a bit different now.
