The obvious pro to wood blinds is you do not have to raise or lower them up to allow light - just pull the cords. Con is they get dusty and are a "hard" finish.

Roman shades are soft shades but you have to raise or lower them to get light if they are (and should be) lined.

If you go with wood you have a choice of colors or stains. Roman shades you have endless fabrics.

From the street side you will see the cords on the roman shades. Some people do not like the look of the underside of shades.

If your trying to keep it modern / sleek looking, I would probably stay with roman shades but with the cordless and top down bottom up options. If your going to try and stay neutral, I would stay with blinds. You can still spice blinds up with cloth tape and cord Tilt vs. the wand tilt. But the roman shades add more of the customized look.

Don't forget about woven woods and solar shades. You can even get printed solar shades if your really wanting a modern look.
