Go stainless or brushed nickel for this style kitchen. Black pulls will dominate and draw the eye to them. Also, ORB will age with use. Are you keeping the faucet? If so, that's another reason to not use dark pulls.

Here's a couple ideas for you, not in your ORB or Black thinking though. That countertop is amazing!

Hi Midland Home. Thanks for your great feedback . I know what you mean about the polished nickel vs ORB and black. I did ORB in last house with knotty alder cabinets and yeah.. That hardware changes with age and use. But the all stainless, white and then using PN hardware seems to beg for warmth and using ORB or black will look less sterile and cold. Such a dilemma!! This is a great knob in soft iron. Restoration Hardware. Use only the knobs (not pulls) in this location.

I was set on dark knobs and/or handles to coordinate with black granite and I was so overwhelmed with the choices and ultimately went simple with brushed nickel knobs. They don't make much of a statement, which hopefully means no one will ever think they are dated.

Something new I have seen is vintage silver. Amerock has this finish - we chose the candler series for our own kitchen reno and love them. It's like a dark nickel but not the black-nickel that is out there - very unique look. (the photo is a bit light - there is more depth to them in person)

Also, How many light boxes are above the island and are there any over the sink?

I have oil rubbed bronze in my white cabinets and I love them! I love contrast, so this is the perfect compliment to an all white kitchen. It will also bring out the dark tones in the granite you have on the island! BTW, I would change the faucet to oil bronze as well to match.

I also used handles on the doors and knobs on the drawers just to break up the monotony. But there's nothing wrong with using one kind for everything. I used it in my previous kitchen and it looked great as well.

I think now there is a trend towards mixing finishes. I am not into matching everything. I have oil rubbed bronze on my white cabinets and I have stainless steel appliances. I have an oil rubbed bronze faucet. I think what ever appeals to you is fine. There are a lot of choices out there.

I like the black

I'm trying to mix metals and bring some warmth into the kitchen and am really leaning toward black or ORB hardware, and keeping the chrome faucet for that reason. It's reassuring to hear from others using ORB and black. I've started to upcycle a 70s era chandelier that was put in when this house was built and it's black metal .. It's going over the dining table eventually. Hope I don't regret Not using nickel cabinet hardware. Thanks all :-))

If you choose soft iron knobs from RH (pictured above) and then you eventually tire of them it's not a huge expense to replace knobs. If you drill two holes for pulls then you're stuck with pulls. Our kitchen has stainless sink, faucet, appliances and iron knobs. Looks great.

I like the idea of using dark pulls to add some contrast to the room and tie in your light fixture. And like leelee said, it's easy enough to change the hardware later on if you get tired of it. (Even pulls are easy enough to change, provided that you get ones with a common center-to-center size, such as 3".)

I now remember another reason we didn't go with the ORB knobs/pulls, we have inset cabinet doors with hinges showing. We thought it might make for too much distraction between black knobs and hinges on white-white cabinets. But I did want some ORB elements so we did mix and match finishes and used ORB for pendant lights and knobs/hinges on the three doors in the kitchen and adjacent mudroom. looks fine with the brushed nickel on the cabinets.

Bring some home and see which ones you like the best. Very pretty kitchen!

Mixing metals is okay - I would avoid the pure black - it is harsh with the cabinets - look for a pewter or silvery metal - know that oil rubbed bronze MAY turn pinkish once the finish wears off - an unhappy surprise - what about mixing in some clear, blown glass or contemporary crystal knobs?

Thanks Lisa Furey! I actually went with a matte black and Love it. I have black in a few other spots in the open concept kitchen etc and they tied in perfectly. Now onto the dilemma of drapes for looks or drapes for function in the fam/living room. I put blinds in for privacy but want to add some dimension and warmth with drapes.. Is it overkill ? Do folks install drapes intended for the full width of the window(s) opening or just enough to add the softness on outer edges? Sorry for dark pic

If you only want to dress it up and you have already addressed the privacy issue, I'd hang a rod up high with stationary panels on either side of the window - no need for it to cover the full width of the window - the window looks wide so be generous with the widths of the panels - I'd go 1 1/2 widths.

We went with oil rubbed bronze, great look against the white.

We are remodeling and will have shaker style white cabinets with granite counter top that has various white/grey/black/garnite colors. There will be glass lights over the island cabinet and we already have oil bronze lights in the rest of the kitchen/living room areas. What are your thoughts on hardware for the cabinets - using oil rubbed bronze cup drawer pulls and then glass cabinet knobs that has oil bronze base for the doors? Wanted something different and that ties in with the glass and oil bronze lights.

I Would go with black on the Cabinet hardware. The bronze fights with grey in the counters. Oil rubbed bronze is a living finish with will wear though normally to a copper tone. Which gives a more rustic look. Feel free to contact us with any questions.

How about deciding on a style, then doing three separate looks (black, brushed nickel, and ORB)? Sometimes, you just have to see the whole effect with the cabinets and granite to know which you like best. Keep the paperwork and packaging and return the two sets you don’t like!

Please understand. I was thinking of trying a sample of each hardware on one set of doors and drawers, not the entire kitchen!
