Totally unreal what a difference it made - no wonder everyone is asking "how".

I would put the potrack back up! It looks a little sterile without any focal points.

I love it. I would just add an accent color with some of your small appliances or plants or decor, etc... Yellow would look good.

I was told by 2 kitchen designers that this would never work and that the grain would look terrible.How does it look close up? It appears so beautiful.!

the designers misinformed you :) I did it as well. You have to sand a bit, and use a good primer, then a few coats of paint sanding in between all coats.

You can make the grain go away for the most part. We would degrease, sand, use a product called Swedish putty to fill in the grain. Then we would sand again, prime and paint. It is a lot of work, but the finished product is great.

I agree with SPS, I forgot I had also used degreaser. I also used Sherwin Williams Proclassic in Semi-gloss. First coat was satin but I realized it didn't seem to wipe clean as easy. The rest of the coats were semi-gloss. I bought a Graco hand held cordless paint sprayer to do all my doors outside.

From viewing your first "after" photo, the kitchen seem somewhat stark to me. However, I changed my opinion after seeing the additional pictures of the kitchen, dinning area. It all fits together beautifully. I am a wood lover and probably could not bring myself to paint the custom oak cabinets in my home, but I really like what you have done.

What an amazing transformation! I love it. As much as European Oak is beautiful and a different colour, American Oak is too yellow with odd looking knots for my personal taste. Covering your cabinets in that pristine white makes your kitchen beautiful, open, and somewhere you want to be. all the time.

Did you use a specific type of Sherwin Williams paint? I painted my very old dark walnut kitchen/bath cabinets 3 years ago with a kitchen/bath specific paint and the paint chips if I happen to bang something into them. Think I was told wrong paint & need to start over. Yours look beautiful!!

Hi, since it's been many months now since you did this, may I ask how is the paint holding up? Do you see a lot of fingerprints or marring? I am interested in doing this but I'm worried about how it will wear and I hear people have to touch up often. Thoughts?

Lori....I painted this kitchen for the pure purpose of making my home more attractive for sale. I sold the house 3 weeks after redoing the kitchen so I don't know how its holding up in the last 6 months.

Yes, hired a company my realtor recommended to do the painting work. Bought the pendant lights from Home Depot ($70 each if I remember correctly)

I liked the warmth of the original but it was too crowded with the heavy chairs and the pot rack. The new lighting is lovely.
