Potential for shelves to sag?

We love these built-in shelves. How wide are the shelves and how thick is the wood for each shelf? We wondered if the weight of books could cause the shelves to sag over the years? We are considering similar built-in shelves with a width of 64-70" with the shelf being 2" thick. Thanks in advance for any comments.

That entirely depends on the quality of the construction, and the manner in which it is fastened to the wall. Typically, a solid 2" shelf is strong enough not to sag, so the weak point would be the connection to the wall. These are attached all along the back and sides of the shelf, so they are very strong.

We worked with a contractor who specializes in historic restorations in Provence, France. I do not know how he specifically attached these shelves, as they are solid, but as the fasteners are concealed, it is possible they were attached to the walls from behind before the walls were plastered.
