cabinets...help!

Id like to reface my cabinets but the only real wood is on the doors and trim. The big wall under the peninsula is like a laminate as well as the sides of the cabinets. not sure what I would be able to cover it with. I am looking to update the kitchen and feel the cabinets are the last thing to do before finishing up the room. Any suggestions?

You could attach bead board to the laminate areas... That will give you a surface that's easier to paint.

Or drywall over the panels.

There are four different approaches to refacing. This web site might give you some insight into the way that will best work for your kitchen design. that link looks very helpful but also a bit confusing. I assume I cannot use a stain on these cabinets then and have to use paint? What color do you recommend and brand?

If your thinking of white, Ben Moore Swiss coffee is a nice color.

I'm with kustombuilt: paint them for the easiest, cost effective redo. Of course if your budget allow, you could have them done professionally. Paint is an amazing tool for so many projects especially kitchen or bathroom cabinets :-)

Google Rustoleum Transformations. They have a system for painting laminate cabinets (along with countertops and tile).
