usually it's one of the last things to go in.
if the remodel includes a kitchen, and you're using ikea cabinets, you want to put the floor in before the cabinets in that instance, but normally the floors go in last.

You're question is certainly not stupid, in fact, it's one we are asked on a daily basis. Generally speaking, we are one of the last crews to come on site for several reasons (we want to make sure our work is protected and minimize how many tradespeople are walking on our newly installed materials). Usually the floor is the last thing we suggest to go into a remodel. You don't want to be painting and ruin your new floors.

It depends on what the flooring is. If you are putting in site finished hardwoods, then they should go in first. In some rooms, we put the tile in before we put in cabinetry - it just depends on several factors. If you are installing carpet, vinyl or prefinished hardwoods they generally are installed toward the end of a project but may not be the last thing.

As a rule, you're ALWAYS better off scheduling installation of Prefinished flooring as late as possible... get all of the other trades OUT, with the exception of carpet perhaps, if there is to be any.

Site or job finished flooring is a bit more tedious to work around for obvious reasons... but the critical issue with them is to hold off on the finishing process as long as is reasonably possible.

What type of flooring are you looking at and where (in the home) is it being added to? As you can see the flooring TYPE will dictate when in the remodel it will be installed.
