Tile or hardwood in kitchen?

Please help! Have a ranch style home: just put in a brand new kitchen (chocolate color) see pix. The whole house has original hardwood floors (which will be refinished and re-stained) My dilemma is... Should I continue with the the same hardwood in the kitchen ? Or just do rectangle light tile? Remember kitchen cabinets is darker . Countertops will be light quartz . So what will look better ? I'm just worried that dark cabinets and hardwood would look funny? I want the kitchen to feel bright and airy .. Backsplash I want something light too.
Oh and the island will be painted light color too .. Any suggestion? Much appreciated .

I would run the hardwod right thru to and including the kitchen for continuity

I have espresso cabinets with light tile but wood floors in living room. I love my tile and it's less of a worry if there is a spill. It's just to dark with all wood in a dark cabinet kitchen I think.

I luv wood floors, but i would go with the tile in the kitchen. If you really like the wood look there are tiles that have the 'look' of wood.

the problem with tile in a kitchen is that things dropped are much more likely to break.

I'm having the same dilemma. My kitchen is much smaller. I think I small going with porcelain tile. Good luck!

The best and easiest solution is to get large samples of both and place them in different areas of the kitchen. It won't cost very much and will remove doubt and future "what if's!"

I would have loved to keep the wood floor but we are too messy! Biggest consideration is maybe more than aesthetics. Tile is much easier to maintain and will last longer. And having hardwood floors refinished is not inexpensive

If your kitchen was separate I might say tile, but because of how open that area is hardwoods will look better and not create as chopped up a look.

hardwood is timeless, tile goes out of style and grout is hard to keep clean

Thank you everyone . I've considered it all. Hardwood is warmer too. I have kids in the house . I know hardwood doesn't last as long, but I've seen homes that are 30-40 years old and hardwood isn't too bad in the kitchen area. Just needing to refinish them. This home is not my dream house & hopefully it's just for a while. Now with everyone's advise I'm more confused . thank U all;))

As a professional I would recommend tile in the kitchen if you have hard woods of a non matchable type. It looks better to go different than kind of the same.

hotflorida - if it's not a forever installation, you might want to check out a tile-print vinyl, like tarkett. softer than tile (dropped things won't break, plus easier on your back and legs), no grout to worry about, and wears well. consumer reports rated it very highly.

I vote hardwood. Today's finishes are extremely durable. I wouldnt worry at all about wear and tear, spills, kids or animals. We've had it all and our hardwood has stood up beautifully. Scatter rugs in front of work areas can break up the wood if you feel it's too much. are you staining or going natural. Lighter show less dirt and is more forgiving to imperfections

Hardwood looks beautiful in a kitchen, and we've certainly put it in lots of kitchens by client request, but wood flooring in wet locations is always risky. If your sink, dishwasher, or refrigerator lines start leaking in a place where you can't see it you can have a real problem on your hands. It's a risk/reward decision.

People have problems with real wood in Kitchens. There are ceramic tile that look like wood. Or just go ceramic. Make sure they are big 16" or bigger.

Have a look at Karndean luxury vinyl. Looks like the real thing, is incredibly hard wearing and it's very difficult to tell the difference. I've used it a number of times in high profile projects always with great results.
