any chance you can share a photo of the space you intend to use? My gut tells me that sconces from 1908 would be worth preserving, but so hard to say!

Personally i love the style of a Victorian room (usually small with a couple of doors) with unexpected oversized artworks taking up almost the entire wall. So often the old houses are lathe and plaster and with time have bad repair jobs and foundation issues that lead to uneven looking walls anyway.

I say get the painting if you haven't already. Remove the sconces and keep them in the basement if they are original. You will enjoy the painting more without the distraction of the sconces.

I am glad to hear you got the artwork. Falling in love with an artwork and not committing to it is often one of people's biggest regrets that they always talk about when they come into the gallery. I wish i had a nickle for every time i hear "I just wish i had of found a way to buy that painting back then....I have never stopped thinking about it"
