I would look into Metal tile for a updated industrial feel. Or if you wanted modern you can use subway tile but stack it up and down and not every other. Although glass tile are in, I feel it's way too contemporary for your kitchen.

I love natural stone, but be sure and get a sheet to lay on the granite to make sure the colors work together. You'd be surprised the number of posts where people went with what they liked assuming white is white, and they look terrible together.

I would also spend some time looking at tiles online at someplace like thetilestore.com to help you narrow down your options. The one thing about ordering tile online is that the freight companies won't unload it for you so if you decide to go with something like that, check the weight. Backsplash tile in square foot sheets isn't nearly as heavy as large porcelain tile.

I'd go with something that'll be in keeping with the floor color. Perhaps a shiny creamy ceramic. Of course, it'll have to draw from the granite too, but it looks like there are some light tones in that as well.

Cast glass backsplashes can be customized by texture and color to match or compliment your kitchen .

There are so many many options and would seriously recommend that you take a look at a local marble and tile store to see all the possibilities. Always make sure that you get a small piece to take with you so that you may look at it with your present counter top
