I have so much overhead light that I was hesitant to put table lamps. I also just bought the glass coffee table and thought it allowed more of the pretty rug to shine through. No? @ Warner: I agree the coffee table needs something. I love your ideas, thank you! I am very grateful to the Houzz community.

The nice thing about table lamps is that they add a different kind of light for different moods, occasions. I would use a roman that matches the wall. If you scroll down and chop off the top of the room, you will see that the bottom layer is perfect, but the same color romans are just a bit too much.

Since you already have glass side tables I think a wood coffee table makes sense--it will add some warmth to the room. Two prints are too far apart and too high. One of those jars should go on the coffee table--the other one should go elsewhere in your house. Lamps will be nice on the side tables because you won't always want light from overhead and it will add a new (height) dimension to the room.

Your room is lovely with good color balance. What you need is a stronger focal point. Create a stronger focal point by adding a larger bolder piece of art above the sofa. The art should be a horizontal rectangular piece. Moving the rug out away from the wall about 4-6 inches will also create a better balance for the furniture placement. Just make sure the front of the furniture is on the rug. And yes lamps of course. Great job!

I agree with Gray & Walter--your room could benefit from table lamps just in case the sun isn't shining and you can't get that amazing natural light. Let me know if you would like any product recommendations!

I can't tell how much room you have in the corner where the plant is, but I think I would move the plant and find a coordinating floor lamp for that corner. Dimmable would be even better.

I'd replace the mirror with the two prints over the sofa stacked vertically. Get larger art for sofa wall. Hang 6 inches over sofa. There is nothing that pulls the red from the rug through the room or the aqua from the love seat. Get large throw pillows for sofa and love seat with red from rug...could be patterned rather than solid. Remove throws from backs of sofa, chair. They don't add anything. Add lamps...maybe floor lamps with large drum shades...and books, accessories on tables.

I agree, your room is lovely. I would try ( and maybe you have. :)) 1) moving the rug over so that the front legs of the green love seat are on it and more of the rug shows on the left side of the sofa, 2) I would place the coffee table so it is horizontal to the sofa, not the love seat, and I agree the glass allows your rug to shine, 3) I agree the sofa art should have more weight. You could try stacking the two prints and balancing them with something else. I don't know that the mirror would work there, but it would bounce light from the window and it MIGHT make a pretty grouping over the sofa, 4) I would look for a different, non- glass table between the sofa and love seat, maybe even a taller, porcelain garden stool. That would echo your ginger jars nicely. I would move the plant in the corner and think about a tall floor lamp there. You could do a pair on either side of the sofa, or go wild and try something a bit more contemporary with an overhang in that corner.

I would definitely encourage you to add lamps of some sort. Overhead light is pretty harsh, and layered light makes for such a warm and inviting space. IMO, Anything you choose to do now is purely polishing and only if you feel like playing. (Except for some non-overhead lighting. :)).

Just some fine tuning, but it looks lovely. Lamps, but not so much for the lighting as you mentioned you don't need, but for the height. Could put the ginger jars on coffee table. Remove throws. You may want to lower the two pictures a bit. The real impact will be from more really good pillows that tie in all the pieces. Hope ideas in pics help re: pillows.

The room is just about perfect. I would replace the jar to the left of the chair with a similarly shaped lamp--be sure it's tall enough--and larger (and lower), greener art over the sofa.

Nice, but doesn't look lived in.i would put ginger jars on coffee table as a grouping adding a smaller one in a darker color. Your colors in room are very nice. Then add lamps to end table big base, in a color of green sofa. With cream shades. Over sofa, pic to small for wall add a big 40x40 hang 7" from top of back.

Add darker rust color pillows from rug to all furn. In a print various sizes. Could change out glass coffee table for a leopard print round ottoman. For interest and fun. Add candles in rust to end tables place on top of stacked small books. Accessories make a room. You need a few.

Put that plant in a tall pot in a rust color or black. Add newspaper to bottom of pot then add plant to give more height, it's to short for corner, you need to fill corner.

Add a pot light, Lowes carries, behind plant after raising it. Great mood light at night.

You have a beautiful room! But we would like to suggest a wood coffee table to maybe warm things up a bit.

I agree with everyone - you have a lovely room. But. It would be much more welcoming and pulled together with some colour on the walls. Probably not what you want to hear however painting the walls will be the best thing for your space in my opinion. I don't think tweaking here and there with vases and plants will be enough to make this room live up to its potential. However, some table lamps will help to ground the furniture and provide mood lighting. Hope this helps. Good luck from Montreal!

First, let me say it's a really pretty room. The colors are so great! I would definitely shift the lovely rug about 8-10" away from the window wall so there is more rug to the left of the sofa. Make sure the front legs of the loveseat remain on the rug. The art pair over the sofa is definitely too small. I think I'd remove the throws from the sofa back. Then add a table lamp (not too small, around 32" tall) or a floor lamp. Every living room needs some lamp light even with overhead lights. It will be much prettier at night and the room needs the height of a lamp. That's it (IMO) and nice job. That's a nice room! Oh, and I like the coffee table. Make sure it isn't more than 18" from the loveseat.

The room is gorgeous. I love the furniture. In my opinions the walls are very bland. I would maybe paint the walls a different color. Maybe a deeper shade of what you already have..a little warmer. I would add some more color via accent pieces and throw pillows. I do agree with the majority about a horizontal piece of art above the couch.

It's quite nice. The first thing I noticed is that you need a taller plant in the corner. Maybe a fishtail palm, or fiddle-leaf fig. Something interesting.
If you want to tame some of the formality, a big, square wood coffee table would define your conversation area, and allow you space to stack some nice books, and put your feet up!
You may want to switch the couch and the loveseat, as the couch will pull that wall together. If you can, pull the furniture out away from the walls. Upholstered furniture against the walls always makes a room look stuffy.
Have you tried pulling the couch out so it faces the windows, with a narrow parson's table behind it? It's hard to tell from the photos if you have enough space to do this, but it would look nice, and give you another surface to display something interesting.

One other thing is to center the rug properly under the furniture, both borders should show. The sofa should not sit at the very edge of the rug, the wood floor should show all around..

Lovely room, but the colors are all warm. Looks like wood floors? I'd expose more of the floor and use a smaller rug, maybe paint the walls something cooler...grey?

Nice pieces! Just need some tweaking. Pull the rug away from the window wall, centered on the longer sofa wall. Right now the large sofa looks like it is ready to fall off the edge. Rugs should anchor pieces, not make them appear to be in peril. The oval table is too wide for use with the small settee (should be no longer than 2/3 the length between the sofa's arms.) The settee already has the two end tables for use. Just pull them forward so they can be reached by the occupants of the settee. If you ever replace them, new tables should come to within 1" of the sofa's arm height and, when topped by a lamp, the entire "unit" should reach 58-64" above the floor. Use the coffee table with the 3-seat sofa, pulled 18" from it. The four prints are hung too high and form too wide an arrangement. Whatever hangs behind the sofa should be less than 75% of the sofa's width. Stack them two over two with one frame's width between them so they have the presence of one single piece. The bottom pair should have their bottom frame 5" above the sofa back. Take the ceramic stool over by the armchair so its occupant has somewhere to set a drink. I'd be interested to know what is doubled by the mirror's reflection. I hope it is something beautiful or interesting.

I love it, but I agree with others who have suggested that you pull the rug out from the wall. Otherwise, it's really very pretty.

Btw, is the chair as comfy as it looks? Can you tell us where you purchased it?

I agree that table lamps would be a nice touch. I would replace the coffee table with something more substantial and functional. The coffee table you have is pretty, but it seems like it would be a stretch to set a drink there; plus, it looks a bit delicate and lonely out there in the middle of your lovely room.

Good start, but.... There are way too many legs in this room - 20 plus! Unless you're trying to emulate the Rockettes you need to move out the love seat and put the sofa there under the windows and add a console wooden piece under the pictures with lamps, books, etc. and, yes, as many have suggested, move the rug further into the room. To continue to offer plenty of seating when needed and to add warmth, instead of a glass coffee table, get a nice warm colored leather square ottoman style "coffee table" that can double as seating. Angle a woven tray for drinks or as a container for magazines, etc. Don't let the patterned rug limit you totally and bring other prints and textures into the room with pillows and draperies. The roman shades give too horizontal a line to your windows and offer no warmth or interest. Right now, the only vertical line in the room is a rather anemic plant. Poor thing! it just isnt up to the task! Vertical window treatments don't have to translate to Great Aunt Ethel's heavy brocade drapes. There are some terrific options that will totally up the wow factor here! I agree with the idea of adding depth to the space by deepening the wall color. Bring in enough lighting so you don't need the overhead lighting unless you decide to perform surgery in the room. More often than not, overhead lights are harsh and unflattering not only to the space but "the face"! Unless you're Jennifer Lopez, invest in soft shaded lamps. Both you and your room will be transformed! Go for it and have fun!

If the rug can't move any, you may want to reverse the two sofas as blseaver suggested.

Take out one of the matching jars. Replace with a bold color jar, or the perfect choice is a commitment to weekly fresh flowers. I would add a travel/adventure coffee table book and a small wooden box or bowl to the coffee table and that is it.

Turn your coffee table the other way....then you are done....beautiful room and I love the lamps and colors you have.

And pull the rug away from the wall so a couple of inches at least are outside the far edge of the sofa. Lower the art above the sofa to 5 inches higher than the sofa back.

2tilletts, have you seen that coffee table in person (West Elm, right?)? I believe I saw it when in the store and it's very, very short and rather small as I recall. I wasn't impressed when I saw it in person.

That coffee table needs to be turned to serve the larger couch, as erinsean suggested. Adjust the carpet as advised & things will look a lot better. Almost there!

Love your color combo but what's bothering me is the big sofa placed on the short end of the rug. I truly feel if the large sofa is moved to longer part of rug it would balance out.

But if you are still wanting comments. I think you could warm up room with a darker wall color. What you have just 2 shades darker. A wood square coffee table would help too, dark wood, Or round 36" fabric ottoman . Ck TJMax .
