Living Room is a getting a face lift

New flooring and paint bring this space to life and up-to-date. Red sofa was outside the comfort zone of the homeowners but they ended up loving it. We were able to reuse a lot of existing accessories/artwork of the clients.

uh oh…. i always hate to be critical in any way, but i just don't like this at all. all of the oak, red leather sofa and chair upholstery is so 1995? again, i'm sorry, but when you put your pic out there for comment, you'll get the good and the bad. hopefully, you'll get better than mine :(

Well done! I love the bright primary colours, the art and especially the cool red sofa. Very modern update. What colour is the yellow?

great improvement but feel the lighting is totally different in the before and after photos, so that is giving the after photos the edge.....dont like the retro feel, but I am more contemporary in taste
  • 12 years ago
I usually like the after but these selections seem a little dated. Not a fan of oak and the red leather coach w/those patterned chairs just seems off. Glad the homeowner is happy.

very nice but not loving those chairs or carpet. need more modern, sleek chairs to complement the

I'm not sure if it 's the red sofa or the yellow walls against the light wood which I find less appealing. Probably the walls because there is so much of it . The walls need to be a richer tone to bring out the warmth of the oak . The sofa just looks out of place. As long as the owners are happy , that's the important part, but I would have second and third thoughts of hiring the designer who included this as part of their portfolio.

    Love the hearth!

I wish I could be more positive about the whole makeover, so many things I dislike. The only thing I will say is that the rugs are way to small for the furniture.

I like the hardwood floors and that fabulous piano. I do think the designers stated that they used the owners existing furnishings, so I am attributing the outcome to that.

Although not to my personal taste, I love this updated mid-century look. If this is the only living area, where is the TV?

It's nice to see someone keep the wood tones and paint a warm color instead of moving everything to the cooler end of the spectrum. Warm is good.

Oh dear. I have to say I don't like this at all. This looks extremely dated.
I think those chairs are hideous, but I love the sofa and rug!

This room is very unfortunate from the floors ( that look like laminate), to the furniture to the casework....all looks dated already ...the wall color does not work with all the oak, and the floors are too light.....I hope the owners didn't pay much for the design services....sorry, it's horrible.

Thank you everybody for your comments and feedback. The homeowners are a retired couple that wanted to reuse as much of the their furniture as possible (dining room furniture is theirs). They like bright colors and they picked out the fabric for the living room chairs (which they love by the way). Also they decided not to have the TV in the living room because they do not watch it (they have one in the family room downstairs for the guests) . They were very happy with the final result, and that's all that matters :)
