Update....if I put a side table by my sofa what do you suggest Grover?

Ooh, Mary, is it really purple? You DID it! Do you love it? I think you need a green pillow on the sofa, same hue as the chairs.

Maybe a side table that's just shorter than the sofa arm, matching the ottoman legs if you're keeping them there, with glass top. Can you give me a photo with better lighting?

    good

Our PAX doors will be installed this week or next. We could switch out the ottomans for the Nelson bench but we like having a comfortable foot rest and not coffee table. Love the sofa color, wish it was slightly larger.

    Nice... :) Merry Christmas 2 U! :)

What a difference those Pax doors make, Mary. Looking from this angle, I think you should look for some kind of funky end table that picks up the vibe of your other end table, maybe something round and a little low and red.

Or something you find on craigslist and paint yourself:

How darling would that be!! Love the doors but haven’t paid for the installation yet!!

I’m so happy to see all the COLOR! Kudos!

Wait a minute. You had a Christmas party and I wasn't invited? I am bereft, Mary. I am, however, glad you are getting compliments on your house. You are awesomely adventurous and I'll bet your parties rock!

Happy New Year Grover! So......with other rooms finished...my bedroom needs some help!! I wanted some color so I changed some things and picked up an MCM dresser....I can move the end tables and lamps to another bedroom or paint?? Maybe add wallpaper or color behind bed?!! Tv is going! Work your magic please!!

This one could be tough, Mary. My initial reaction is that I don't like the wall color with the red bedding. Problem is that could be a function of my monitor and in real life, it might look fine. It could also be the lighting. On my monitor, the paint seems to have a pink undertone that fights with the red.

Love the MCM dresser. The existing nightstands actually look perfect with it. I'd keep them.

Let me play with colors a bit and get back to you.

Here's a first pass. I kept the red bedding and toned down the walls. This color has less pink and is less saturated than your original color.

And here are your current walls with a rustier red bedding.
BTW, don't mind Daisy. She likes to get up on things. She seems to have a short girl complex.

And the rust bedding with the desaturated walls:

If headboard is creamy, I like warmer, rust bedding.... the peaches and cream idea....

Interesting...I don’t think the pic colors are accurate....as the bedding isn’t rust but more of a deep red and walls have a gold undertone I think. Could we add an area rug to spice up? Of course I don’t have artwork yet. Feels pretty drab in here! Lol
  • 8 years ago
Actually the red bedding looks good with purple! If that helps...

Mary, I know the bedding is actually a deep crimson. I changed it to rust because I think it looks better with the wall color and lighting. That deep red feels discordant to me. Here's your current wall color with tealish/green bedding:

Even the green seems to work better with the wall color.

I went back and looked at some of my previous renderings of this room. Here is one I did with Revere Pewter on the walls. What color did you end up using?

I ALMOST went with teal....and I don't remember color in that bedroom but it doesn't look that light! ....changing to teal would be easier than painting....lol... Are you thinking different lamps?? Good thing I have kids who need/want my hand me downs! Lol
  • 8 years ago

Too bold? Keep you awake at night?

Love it!!! Just what I'm looking for!!! Sources please!!!

The rug, the art, and the lamp are the first three photos in the ideabook I made for you. If you click on each image to enlarge it, it gives you the link to the website.

My gosh that’s fabulous! She must do hotels! So getting those lamps!

Love your home, just finished reading everything... If I can ask, where you got green chairs in the tv room and how comfortable they are?

Soooo Grover.....what about a boho look? Not to make you work any harder, but I like that look too! Ps my hubband said we can get a dog when we are too old to travel!

Also...love the rug.....are there other less expensive options?? Plus for the price it's an assemble style.....oh my lol

I'll look for a similar rug. Though the small size is $400 something.

I do think the black lamps are awesome and work well with your black chandelier. However, be sure to measure because I had to guess on their relative height. We've been down the too-tall lamp road before.

I think the rendering above is somewhere between mcm and boho. But let me play around with it a bit more.

You can still travel with dogs. Last time I went to Europe, dog sitting cost me $520. I may go again this summer, but I plan to find someone who boards dogs in her home.

    Brighter art and over-the-top rugs:

Looks like Hubby's getting into the MCM look, too. I'm not loving the renderings I just posted. I think the rug needs more black. I'll look some more.

Hey Grover....I noticed you saved a pic of a stone fireplace painted white.....I dislike ours.....should I paint?? yay or nay???

I love your fireplace. I say no, but you have to live with it.

You are right as always! That’s why I asked!

    Say, how are the newlyweds?

Nice of you to ask! That particular house fell through as they found too many issues that needed resolved....so they bought a cookie cutter small home and will close on Friday. My daughter unfortunately has inherited my “getter done“ quality and has purchased a few MCM things. I also picked up some for her from an antique store that she approved! She had to negotiate with hubby on MCM. So after they move in I will post pics for you to fine tune. She also adores your style!

PS you don’t live close to Palm Springs do you? We are going there in a couple of weeks!

    Butting in

;-) to say I read that MCM can be a very versatile style.

No, not close to Palm Springs, but when you go, pay attention to all the wonderful MCM houses there. Also make time for the art museum, if you can.
