Selecting a wall color

I have begun planning a facelift for our home and have been researching well over a month for a color to paint the walls in our family room. This is a very spacious room with an offset kitchen and island. The room has good natural lighting from the large windows that basically take up the whole back wall. Their are 2 fixed elements to consider. The floor is glazed Old Chicago brick, relatively dark with a reddish tint, therefore I have stayed away from darker tones..............(as you can probably tell, this is my first try at decorating). The furniture is traditional and is very similar in color to Sherwin Williams Baguette SW 6123. I have used my color wheel to the point that I no longer want to look at it. We will be purchasing a new area rug and window treatments and that would play a part in it as well. I havn't selected either one. I would really like use a soft blue or blue/green but am unsure if I can pull it together with accessories, rug and window treatments. In addition, we are painting the cabinets and I havn't even picked a color for them. I would welcome any suggestions or ideas from the community since most of you have a great deal of experience. Since this is my first project I really would like it to turn out well in addition to the fact that my wife doesn't think I can do it. :-)

Best regards,

Ronja
