I think a table of similar color and size to the console table to bring balance. The fireplace is very traditional, so I would look for symmetry.

The sideboard is 72" and I'm having a hard time finding a console table the same length that isn't crazy expensive.
The sofa table is 54" too short?
Their both reclaimed pine do you think it would look good?

millay & co you sound like my husband! lol I wanted to do large baskets under the console table to hold dvds etc. I haven't found a tv console that I like so thought the console table would look cool. Were planning on putting a large piece of art above the mantle just need the money to buy one lol Thanks!

If you can find another sideboard I would use that for the TV only hang the TV on the wall instead of sitting it on the furniture. That way you can style the top of the sideboard under the TV.

Get a chest not a table. For TV it should be as long as wall. TV looks out of place. Can you see it? Add some kind of bold art over firepl large. You might get a bigger 55" TV that one looks to small for area.

You have nice pieces from the few I can see but the room looks off. Center the sofa and the rug in front of the fireplace. You could add a TV cabinet which would balance the sideboard. It's really hard to say without seeing the rest of the room from different angles.

I plan on adding an oversized chair and ottoman to the left of the coffee table. We didn't center the sofa in front of the fireplace bc the mantle is too high when we redo our fireplace we'll do that. Thanks!

Maybe I'm missing something, but why can't you use your existing sideboard to put your tv on? Then put the chair and ottoman you're planning in the corner where the tv is now, pull the couch out in front of the fireplace, and the room would seem balanced.

Agree with springcath as I said above and hang your tv on the wall so you can style with the same stuff except for the mirror then you don't even have to buy anything...Love the art over your fireplace. It needs something bigger to go with it - maybe the mirror?

The sideboard is beautiful. Looks like the Restoration Hardware printer's cabinet that I've been lusting after. That said, it's really too tall to go under the TV, and it's too heavy for the left fireplace wall. Can it go somewhere else? Then you could get two matching consoles for each side of the fireplace.

It looks too heavy now but the homeowner Sonia Biddle plans to renovate the fireplace with more substantial materials then it will balance. How tall is the sideboard?

I did think of moving tv above sideboard but my husband mounted it and now there's a hole in the wall. Yes, we can patch it. You think that you'd be able to see the tv if I moved the chair over to wear the tv stand is now? Guess we'd have to move some stuff around to see. So, if you did use the sideboard for the tv, setting it on top so it wouldn't be too high, could a bookcase go on the other side to balance the wall? Maybe something the same wood tone and similar height as the sideboard? Would that work, groveraxle?

So Sonia are you saying you cannot move the sideboard to the other side of the fireplace but you could move the TV? then the chair would go in the corner with the window? It would make a great reading nook if you put a bookcase to the right of the tv with the big chair and a big plant in that area too. If you put the tv on a swivel wall mount you can position the TV any way you want. They are a little pricey but if you are not buying a tv stand... that also solves the problem of it seeming too high because you can angle for viewing comfort.

Right idea for the picture above the fireplace but agree it is too light. Needs something textural and earthy to compliment the beautiful print you already have there and I would lean it like the other one.

Maybe any one of these for art above the mantle...or not your style?

Sonia, I know exactly what you mean about finding a long console that doesn't cost a fortune. You'd think with the sizes of TVs now, they'd make more of them.

This guy is on etsy.com and I think his stuff is probably just your style. He makes gorgeous furniture out of reclaimed wood. It still might be a little more than you want to spend, but it wouldn't hurt to convo him and get a price for one the length you want.

I agree the wall should be kept as symetric as possible. It would be perfect if you could
purchase an identical chest to the one you already have. Hang a picture or grouping of
pictures over it to match the size of the TV on the opposite side. The art over the fireplace should be round so that it does not compete with the rectangular shapes on either side of it. A mirror set into a metal sculpture hung slightly higher than the TV and picture would be beautiful.

Where do you live. Idea has things a,so Living Space if you live in Calif. or Arizona.

Sonia, I think to balance that wall and properly view the TV, you need a console that is the same length as the printer's cabinet, but about half the height. The one above looks way too tall.
