Trim out the windows, and put in wooden rails on the steps. If possible, you could build wooden steps, and even a small deck on the front.t

Have a look at my Forest Hills project for one idea. The great thing about ranch homes is that you can update them by emphasizing their horizontality. If you aren't married to the stone, you could replace it with broad shiplap as I've done in my example. I then use the window sills to depart from the shiplap and then change to 4" clear cedar. You could very easily do something similar. Not really rustic, but definitely an update to what you have now.
