We are in search for our new backsplash. Main goal is to find something that complements our granite (called Hawaii), and tie in the grey floor with the rest of the space.
We have found a mosaic that in our minds was just perfect. We love how it picks up all of the colors from the counter - gray, dark greay, creme, and shiny gold - and also loved how the square shape coordinates with the square stone-like floor tiles.
However, when asking around for opinions, we have repetitively heard the same feedback over and over again: too busy. Some of the suggestions that our friends made were to use this mosaic as a strip/accent tile, and find something more neutral as a main backsplash.
Off the store again... We've visited every shop in town, and got a few quite contradictory opinions. Some were pushing for onyx (did not like because it looks too yellow next to our honey maaple cabinets), others for travertine (does not seem to be the right combination with the counter). After a dozen of rejected samples, we are back to the drawing board and want to ask for opinions in the talented Houzz community.
Is this backsplash REALLY that busy? Should we go ahead and install this beauty, or keep on searching?
