Thanks, Kevin. Painting will be the first thing we do. I love the look of shutters but I agree that the shutters in the front look odd. Would you suggest replacing the shutters and adding them to the small windows?

If you paint the body of the house a different color, and the trim around the windows white, the windows will stand out more. Adding landscaping along the drive and placing a small ornamental tree in the front will help soften the facade of the house. It's not that unattractive!

The corner post on your covered front entry needs to be thicker and more substantial.

Have you considered topiary style evergreens on either side of that window? Changing the garage door color is big improvement. How about shutters on either side of the first floor window? It would also help with security to plant a hedge under that window, making it harder to access.

you have strong detail on the house side and none on the garage side.
new garage doors with windows would help balance the detail. a less expensive suggestion would be perhaps 'carriage house' hardware: giving the appearance that the doors swing, rather than rising overhead.

depending on your driving skills, 3 topiary/shrub/floral planters flanking the doors would add colour and interest.

PLEASE change the decorative 'barge boards' on your roof detail...they are very dated and too cutsie for the house
