Door color help - purple or red?

Hi all -
I have to pick a color for our front door by tomorrow, eek! Trying to decide between red (BM Caliente) or a very dark indigo/purple (BM Galaxy). Photoshopped pics are attached, but the colors aren't exact...would be very interested to hear which look you prefer more with our spruce siding! Glossy black is the fallback plan, but I wanted to try and do something a little different if possible...

Thanks in advance!

It's not different to paint your door a bright color anymore, it's becoming different to stick with the classics. Gloss black would be the best for your gorgeous home, but if you're set on a color, then go with the red. Purple is a love it or hate it color.

Purple sounds way more interesting than red.

Here's a visual of ppf's suggestion. Looks great. I think the dark purple would work as well.

Why not white, same as you trim? Lovely house.

Notice how awful the purple looks with holiday decorations?
What color are the garage doors?

Wow, thanks for all of these replies! The garage doors will be white. I'm starting to think black on both sides of the door might be the best, classic choice...but I've always wanted a red door, so I'm torn!

I looked up Galaxy and it doesn't really read as purple like some of the other suggestions. I think it would be pretty with the spruce in a glossy finish.

Also, while I very appreciate PPK's burgundy/plum suggestion, I tend to gravitate towards purples with more of an indigo bent, not so much with the plum colors...I guess I thought a very dark purple that almost looks black from the street could be an unexpected little surprise once people got up to the door? Can you tell I'm confused! :)

Here's one painted a darker eggplant color. More of what you had in mind?

Yes, linlac, that's a very pretty color! and seeing it with the red cushions and green pot makes me think it would still look good with christmas decorations :)

If you've always dreamt of a red front door... It's only paint, if you want a black or a purple front door in a couple of years, repaint it.

i think the red stands out and doesnt go well with the rest of your house, your outside is beautiful, i think the red will just make it look out of the place, stay with the black

I think both are great options. I would go with purple because how many times can you make a purple door work!? It would be fabulous on this house.

If u want a red door, do it. Paint can be changed. Personally I love a red door. You can put flowers in the garden or hanging baskets during the warm months and put red flowers in them, like geraniums, with an accent of white for your garage door. Lovely!

You can continue the theme with pops of red in the entrance area. Awesome!

mlusk724, I like your comment about the surprise when you arrive at the door ... the thought of black becomes purple :) Plus a black door would look nice anyway on your front door. I think I would paint the frame around the door like linlac showed in her/his last comment

The exterior colors look very nice. My opinion is that a red door clashes a bit with the green. I love complimentary color ways, but I do agree with a previous post that it will visually throw off the overall look. Again, if a red door pleases you, it's your home and YOU want to love what you see. :) Congratulations on building your new home!

How about a deep burgundy instead of the purple?
What exact color is the green on the siding? Its beautiful! You cannot go wrong; purple, red, or black.
I really think dark purple color would stand out and add personality!

Thanks all! With your help, I think I've decided to go with a very dark purple in semi gloss or gloss finish. This should give me the drama of a black door, but a little hint of color once people come up to knock. Will have big red pots by the door to give me an additional pop of color. I'll just have to save the red door for my some day lake house (a girl can dream!).
