Matching curtains in open floor plan?

I'm wondering if I should buy the same curtains for my dining room as my living room. It's an open floor plan, but my living room curtains were on the pricey side, so I wanted to do something different/less expensive in the dining room. I was thinking a light gray or a neutral curtain in the dining room. But if the same curtain is best, then I'd definitely fork over the extra cash to buy them.

Also, I'm not to keen about the leaning mirror against the wall. I was thinking of switching it out with something else. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

since the 2 room are kinda separated i think it will be fine to use different color on curtains
also please get rid of that ceiling fan in the living room you can find a much nicer chandelier

well i say do something more fun on that side as its the side you look at when you sit on the sofa...maybe something that reflects the colors of the pattern tile on the edge of the raised area. and of that painting. why is the table so close to the edge and not centered to the painting..not sure where you live but there is a cieling fan made by minka aire, called zen, it would look much better than what you have. as to the mirror, i think you need some more items on the wall to balance it out.

I think you could switch the curtains. one side seems a different color scheme than the other. may be a nice way to tie them in without spending any money. Or bring a pattern into the room. maybe not on the tile side as it may be too busy

@flair lighting, @S&A Decor, @jennateufel. Thanks for all the comments. It's funny, I never even noticed the ceiling fan was so obtrusive. I'm adding it to my shopping/to-do list, and will eventually change it to the Minka Aire Zen fan that @flair lighting suggested.

I'm going to start my curtain shopping for the dining room, and will purchase a different set than the one already in the living room.

@flair lighting....the dining table is usually centered, but I temporarily moved it out to install the curtain rod in the dining room. Amazing you noticed that!

Here's another view of my living room/dining room/kitchen. I keep staring at it and I think I'm just going to do the same curtains....so that the eyes flow naturally throughout the room. I'm terrible at coordinating. Off to go shopping.

I would have all the curtains the same length, and shade.

What a fantastic space! Love your oversized rug by the way! It really helps to define the seating area.
A thought for the curtains, would be to keep them different but coordinate them through pattern or color? For instance, a set of solid cream for one window and then a grey set with a bold cream pattern (like chevron) for the other.

I looks like you may be able to pull your rug out a little further in front of the sofa, or will the corner of it near the counter be in the way of traffic flow?

You can relate to your living room treatment without the repetition by using only the sheers (weighted, for practical pruposes), and if budget allows for more, a valance in your drapery material, and/or piping in the colour of your drapes.

I'm sorry your curtains in the living room were so expensive because, frankly, I like the dining area curtains better. Ideally, I'd like so see something earthy with texture like burlap, something that echoes your rug.

I agree with you about the mirror. It's meh. Move the plant over a bit, and ditch the mirror in favor of your collection of Papua New Guinea artifacts (or something equally interesting).
