Rehab and expansion in North Chicago suburb

We purchased the old split level with the idea of knocking it down and building a new house. However, reality set in quickly in the form of a recession so we had to quickly switch gears and settle for a less ambitious project. In retrospect we are happy we reused a good portion of the old house.

    @Imckuin unfortunately momentarily I don't have access to the interior pictures but what I can tell you is that we used about 60% of the old house. The whole front of the house (the lower level) was demolished to the foundation. The 1 1/2 story in the back was left intact except for the roof. New roof trusses, HVAC, plumbing, electrical & closed cell spray-in insulation were installed. The corner window is indeed in the same spot but it is hard to recognize because we added the attached garage.

    @lmckuin I found a couple of interior shots. Sorry, the quality of the pictures is not the best.

    Such a great job. I'm set to move into my new home in six weeks its a 1980's quad in NW Indiana. Its a great home with a good floor plan but def needs updates. So seeing your project makes me think its all possible.

    @evanskie

    It was around $260,000 but it can be done for less

    Yolanda - let us know if you are in need of architecture, interior design, or contractor help! We are a GC in Crown Point and work with a great architect in Valparaiso that designs projects comparable to this one.

    @evanskie

    It does. However, I did the GC work. If you are not in the industry add another 15% and you get a pretty good idea.
