want simple backsplash to bring a classic feel to modern white kitchen

I have an all white kitchen with dark floors, (similar to Lew Loft in NYC) no upper cabinets, just drawers, with two 87 inch floating shelves on one side and one 107 inch shelf on sink side. I have Calacatta marble as counter top. Walls are matte white that I was told are washable(B.Moore Aura). Tried glass long subway tiles (3x12, but the greenish tinge awful.). What white tile (size) can I use that will not take away from the beauty of the marble's movement, or shall I put a 4 inch backsplash of same marble, and finally, is a backsplash necessary? Suggestions are appreciated.
