Cute house! Love the above colors. Be careful about planting to close to A/C, it will choke it and make it work harder to cool. I built a lattice frame around mine, leaving about 8" between A/C and lattice. Then you have to make sure stuff (leaves) doesn't get caught up in there. But, one of mine is front of the house also, makes a big difference.

HI -- Cute house and I think it needs to get noticed - I use Benjamin Moore Paints --- here are some color combos that I think would suit your home. For some pazzaz "Soft Pumpkin 2166-40 " for the siding w/ "Gentle Cream OC 96 " for the trims AND " Arles Green" for the door OR "Smokestack Grey 2131-40 " for the siding w/"Gentle Cream OC 96"for the trims. AND "Vintage Wine 2116-20 " for the door. I think either door color will go either siding color.

My first thoughts were the same fredqqq but when I really looked at the picture I noticed the houses on each side were along those lines too, so then I thought like Dylecture that the opposite idea would make the house stand out more. It really is a lovely little home msptc, enjoy!

Hello msptc, whatever colours you choose, pull the tone directly from the stone on the face of your home. I'd do a tone on tone affect, painting your trim the darker colour to match your front door. You could do the front door and fancy trim work in a rich red, pulled directly from the tones in your stone. Good Luck!

Try Shenandoah Taupe AC-36 by Benjamin Moore for the field color. Keep your trim a milky white, like White Dove OC-17. Good luck with your project. Great house! CHarmean Neithart

Because your bungalow is craft style, google the colour chart used in Craft Style homes. You will come up with yellow, green, red's - as the major 'nature' palette for Craft Style.
Believe it or not, yellow and green are beautiful together and will blend with the stone and surroundings. Wish I had taken a photo of a client's house done this scheme, but lovely.

This house is gorgeous and I agree that the color should be taken from the beautiful stonework. This will make the house pop. The bland color that it is now washes out all the detail. The storm door should go since it simply isn't up to par with the home. Spending a little extra on something as ancillary as a storm door will be well worth it. Love the Chambourd color but use it for the clapboards with an off white/cream trim. For the window sashes and the front door (storm too) a charcoal/ color will be amazing! You can start w/ 'concealing' the condenser with shrubs (easy access) to a lattice covering (more intense): since there is more brick on the house than paintable surface, try to go a little 'bold'. Do a bright, vibrant color that can enhance the brick: co-ordinate with a color that blends for the trim. As for front door, (IF doing the bolder colors or not) BLACK would 'stand out beautifully! Just get rid of that tacky screen door!

I have a similar house. I painted my front door Benjamin Moore Sun-dried Tomato [deep red], including the storm/screen door, which is NOT tacky, but rather adds insulation in winter and protection against bugs in summer. Screen off the A/C unit and add some landscaping to add interest and colour.

The house is lovely! Definately should go darker, but still using one of the color's from the stones. Since that color, although darker, will still be a neutral; you could really make the door "pop" by using a color from the other side of the color wheel, opposite of the color you ultimately choose for your sideing. Example: Dark blue/grey siding with a bright golden rod yellow...or poppy red...you get the idea.

find a site that you can add ur pic and choose various colors....if that is not avail....print in black and white...and get your crayons out and PLAY!/ lol luv this home...and why oh why would they put the a/c right out front!!

Dytecture provided you a beautiful photo of what your house could potentially looked like. All you need to do is clean up front garden, plant decorative bushes to minimize your AC, white hydrangeas are always great! Beautiful home.

The stone on the house is very prominent. The natural material of the stone begs for a "natural" color palate, but that does not necessarily mean neutral. I agree with changing your facia board. The "gingerbread" trim does not fit well with this style house. After that, play with colors found in nature. I like the combination here - the deep green of the forest with the red of natural wood for the door contrasting the stone. I would also recommend checking out this company - http://www.triccover.com/store/ - I saw their product on "I Want That" on the DIY network, and I think it would be a great solution for your air conditioner unit. Maybe add in another bush at the far right end to bookend your planting area, then flowers in the middle. This house looks adorable, and I think going with strong colors will help distinguish it from the rest on your block without making it stand out too much. Good luck!

My house has similar shades. I painted my door BM Nightshade - it is like a very deep purple but reads very brown.

Be sure to test your options outside. I couldn't believe how much the colors changed when I tried them out. Took me 2 tries to find Nightshade - my other choices screamed too much purple, and weren't sophisticated at all! I came close to using Willow too, which seems more grey than brown/purple.

That's a good point mrs1916 to check the colours outside and preferrably with a poster board size to see in different light conditions as each facing side gets the light differently. Thanks for the reminder!

when re-painting, remember to paint the hand rail...that would be a great time to incorporate a 3 color-scheme....definitely a door color that would *pop*, since it seems so deep into the porch. I also do not see your house numbers...they could be installed in the bottom half of the door--great big numbers---or if just a 2-3 digit number--spelled out: Ten vs 10 (Two-Thirteen vs 213) Not much space to mount them, I see.

Dispite suggestions to the contrary, I would leave the trim along the roof line alone! It is unique, and goes with the brackets at the front door as well as the cottage feel of the house. As for colors, there have been some good suggestions, I think any of the green or brownish-purple shades will work great. Good luck.

Just to add my 2 cents to the great suggestions here ~ I LOVE the utility cover "bush"...that's ingenious!!! What the heck ~ buy 3 & line them up & you'll have very little maintenence!!! Just add some pretty colorful flowers in front of them.

I agree with replacing the fascia gingerbread & doing this trim in a creamy color. I also like the idea of a soft green, one that will compliment the stone & not look too washed nor too overwhelming for the field color. The green will compliment the brick facades of the adjoining buildings as well. A deeper green window trim & a brown/red door to add some weight...maybe a bronze tone to compliment a new bronze colored storm door. (It looks like it may be bronze already & the door as it is looks pretty good) For colors, consider Sherwin Williams 6163 Grassland for the field & 6165 Connected Gray for the window trim.

I would replace the iron handrail with wood ones (2). I would do that in the cream also, with bronze balusters. I love Mike's rendering of the columns as well, but now we're talking about more than just a simple facelift of paint color, but I think this is definitily where the project needs to go. This will also give you a place for house numbers that would run vertically.

If you can't do all that right away, put 2 large urns on the columns with flowers & perhaps 2 more on either side of the steps.

Your home is absolutely adorable!All you need is a accent color. I think you should paint the door and the small octagon trimm cherry red. Purchase a 2 beautiful red ceramic pot and fill it with all red flowers.Put these 2pots on top cement ledges of porch.Lastly fill the flower bed around the central ai unit with all red impatients, red geraniums and put a red rose trailer bush on the right corner. RED is your house's HOT color.Don't worry about central air unit it needs to breathe anyway.At least you have central air.

I would power wash the paint off the window frames and stain them a natural warm wood colour to match the front door and paint the top siding, trim and walls around the windows a warm cream such as Benjamin Moore's Blond Wood 1067 or Barely Beige 1066. For safety reasons I would also put another side rail up. Take down the black one and replace it with a sturdy wood structure in a similar/same wood tone as your front door.

A lovely teal color with burgundy trim would look very nice.
Also, I have been in the air conditioning business for 38 years and we have never put a condensing unit in the front yard. But, since it is located there - it would be very expensive to move - the lattice idea to cover one side is a good alternative. However,
you will need to leave room for a Technician to get around the unit. Make sure that
the lattice is easy for him to remove and that it is at least a foot away from the unit.

I would nix the suggestion to write out the address in words. That is against building code here, for good reason. House numbers should be at least 5" tall, in contrasting color and easy to spot. If you need to call 911, don't you want them to be able to find you easily?

I would take a color deck out by the stone and just start flipping through and see what color pops out at you. I don't find the storm door objectionable, but if you wish to minimize it, paint it to match whatever color you choose for the front door

what is your coloring? What colors do you like to wear, and what colors make you happy? When you come home you want to see your house and smile, because you are home... With that said, if you are a brunette who likes to wear fall colors, Mike Welsh's scheme would be wonderful, But I would go with two different levels of the same shade of green rather than the green and the white. And I would replace the front door with a one flat panel door or a bungalow/mission style door rather than the multiple paneled door the house has now, If you can get a screen door that matches with just the rails and styles and no bar across the middle to match the new front door, and a replacement one sheet of glass door for Winter, you could paint the storm and screen door rails and styles with the darker green paint and frame that red door... House numbers running down one of the tapered columns in red too!

In selecting a paint , I would suggest match something in the stone, and really don't mind the overall color that is there now. I would change out the facia board add a painted rail vs. the metal railing. Choose a color that compliments the stone for the accent on the door, a deep green /brown color might look nice or select a new wood stained door to match the style of the house, new hardware, etc., the wood will be the contrast to the trim.

Also, suggest adding a screen for the ac unit, this can easily be worked into new landscaping in the front. I would go online and research this overall bungalow style and you will find many ideas.

Be sure to see if this happens to fall into a historical site, that will determine if there are any parameters or limitations to consider.

I love the fascia you currently have. It gives the house a cottage feel.

My first impulse was a deep eggplant around the windows and in the peak and the fascia a creamy color. You have such a fun style home. At least give it a thought!!

Oh and flower filled pots-big ones, on the columns.

I agree with the various options that go for a darker color of the wood, windows, and door. I suggest that you consider three colors: one for the wood, another for the windows, and one the pops for the door.

As to the air conditioner, I suggest that you hire a landscape designer for a consultation. I see a wonderful mixed border of low plants to pull the eye away from the air conditioner and not cover much of the stone. Maybe you could incorporate stone boulders or edging in the bed to tie things together. This garden would perhaps start at the foot of the stairs. I would select plants that are relevant to the period of the house and also, if possible, native to the area. Check out some issues of Garden Gate at the library to see if anyone has submitted a similar problem.

I don't mind the fascia board either. Love that bush. I think eggplant/ plum on the door is great. Sage tones for the siding and trim. Just make sure they are far apart on the paint strip. Sun really does wash color out.
