Why dont you use a natural stone split face? this will give an historic look and weather and add beauty to the home for centuries. The photo attached has a brick and split face combination too.

How big an addition are you envisioning on the lower level? And what kind of room? We built a small family room/sunroom onto our 1920's brick house, replacing a large screened porch that was falling apart and knocking down walls so the room is continuous with our kitchen. We live in a historically protected neighborhood with really strict architectural codes, but our addition was approved using wood siding with very tall windows all around overlooking the back yard. It looks beautiful in relation to the brick exterior of the rest of the house, and completely historically appropriate. So my point is that brick houses don't necessarily have to have brick additions as long as the architectural plan fits the house.

HI - Your architect should help you have seamless additions. A project done well should never look like add ons. Stucco always looks good with brick IF done well.

Hi 1jenmsmith, the scope of work is quite large and there are too many variables and options it's best to consult your local architect in order to have this project done right.

I agree. Get an archtect involved. In my opinion, it is money well spent. Also, even though the neighborhood has many Tudors, you house is not that style. It is more like a contemporary cottage. Well, I could say it is a mid-century modern.
