Move the rug so it's slightly under the sofa. Great sofa, by the way. You do need a new coffee table, sorry. The Noguchi coffee table, assuming it fits properly, would look awesome with your sofa.

I love the coffee table too bad you didn't just get a sofa it would have been perfect but now you will need a different coffee table so maybe that one can go against a wall somewhere with a great painting hung above it. I think the rug is too small for the sofa and I would get one with some more color in it maybe just a couple of small bent glass end tables and no coffee table and a small slipper chair angled in the corner where the brown chair is now. and an awesome lamp in the other corner

Love the sofa and coffee table! You may need to angle the table so the couch is fully accessible with narrower end toward end table.

The rug is nice but too small. The table is great, but too long. Can you get a bigger rug and smaller table?

Ideally we don't want to make any large purchases... we are about to go into remodeling and are doing a bathroom remodel and a soft loft enclosure... so no big purchases right now!

You could leave the single chair (good to have extra seating), just add a similar pillow that is being used on couch and bring it in closer and place on an angle. The coffee table could be placed along the long wall and it would look like a bench. Add very large horizontal artwork overhead and hang fairly low. Could throw a cashmere throw over the end and add baskets underneath. I think the carpet is fine, just pull couch forward so legs are sitting on rug and save some money. I think a square or round coffee table (maybe glass to make the room feel larger). For pillows, use colors from the art you select.You mentioned you were on a budget, but art will be what finishes off the room and brings interest. I think black modern chairs for your dining set might work well and you may be able to find some second hand and just refinish/reupholster. houzz=[houzz=]

What if for pillows you got some warm colored pillows that might help pull in the table to the couch!

The rug is better the other way - turn it back 90 degrees. The chaise part of the sectional needs to be on the rug too.

The bench is good on this long wall and, when you are situated with your remodel, you can think about finding a pair of small upholstered chairs for this long wall or placed flanking the fireplace, layering a small table for them in front of the fireplace.

You could fashion your own cocktail table using new or re-purposed materials. Your bench is on the rustic side, so you might like having another piece to compliment it.

Here are some DIY cocktail tables for ideas.

#1. Stack shipping palates to the right height, stain and poly to prevent slivers and add a finished finish, add wheels.

#2. Add squat legs to an old trunk.

#3. Cut down the legs of a dinette table.

#4. Get a 3/4" or thicker plywood board cut to size, tile the top with ceramic tiles in a fun pattern or use one kind/color, add 4"x4" legs or purchase more decorative legs. This table is easy to make. Be sure to select tile first and lay them out on the floor, allowing for the grout lines before cutting the plywood to size. Add some narrow trim to hide the edges of the plywood. These days, aside from cutting tiles, the process is very easy and affordable. This table pictured is not tiled, but I would do it in a heartbeat!

Home stores like Home Depot have all sorts of legs and tile in stock. They will also do some wood cutting for you. In my experience, it is a good idea not to get involved in cutting tile - unless you have experience and the tools to do it. Can be a nightmare! This is a great way to add color and/or shine to the setting. If you happen to have a slate or stone floor somewhere in your home, you could coordinate this table top with that.

use the old coffee table as a cool bench somewhere, by the front door maybe? and get a new one..try putting the chair on the wall side, since the sectional weight is on the window side. i would get and oval or round maybe(easier on the shins in tight spaces lol), take all the stuff off the mantel, tv is to big to have little stuff up there. is the couch centered to the fire place? looks a little off.

Agree with flairlighting with everything. I was all concentrating on the cocktail table deal. If you place your chair on the long wall, it could be developed with a side table, lamp, artwork, etc.

Or, it might be a hassle, but you could move the TV into an entertainment center on that big wall, turning it into a media wall.

Place the sectional in front of the windows but pulled forward, leaving a pathway in back of the sectional. Place the chair on the dining room side of this media wall, angled towards the fireplace & sofa. This would open up the 2 spaces. As it is now, the sectional is like a half wall dividing the space in half.

You need some lighter color pillows that "pop" against the darker couch. Find some that help to pull a little of the wall color out.
