Kitchen Cabinets to Paint or not to Paint?

Hello, we are purchasing a new home and I think I want to paint the kitchen cabinets white. I found a picture on Houzz with a white linen glaze on the cabinets that I think would look good. I want to brighten up the room and paint the walls yellow. The kitchen is open to the family room area. Let me know your thoughts. Thank you!

I'm not a fan of painting nice wood cabinets, which yours look to be. Maybe make other changes before going to that drastic a step. You could:

1) Get new hardware.
2) Paint the walls.
3) Install pendant lights over the island.
4) Get new/different stools.
5) Put an area rug in the kitchen.
6) Add some accents that have colors or textures that you like.

After these changes you might find that the stain color is fine.

Hi---I think painting the cabs is an excellent idea. I recommend painting the walls a warm, muted gold as a bright or pale yellow will make the floor, counter, and backsplash look 'off'. I like the two wall colors in the attached pic. SW's Universal Khaki and Baguette. Hope this is helpful. Good Luck!

I am having the same dilemma. A director I hired for suggestions said we should paint our cabinets. She also suggested high gloss. Why would you not paint them? What are your concerns. I realize it comes down to personal preference but what cons are there to painting. I've never used high gloss in a kitchen - would you?

Hi, It is a matter of personal choice of course but I too would not paint nice wooden cabinets.
I happen to think they look more stylish and better quality.
If you do have them painted, a good professional would be sure to strip off any varnish first.
The walls look yellow already or is it just the lighting? I would tend to trade the counter stools in for something a little more stylish and exciting.

Thanks for your feedback. Actually the walls are more of a light beige color. I think you are right they are good quality cabinets.
