should a sealer be used on exposed brick walls?

I have recently taken off old plaster to expose interior brick walls. After cleaning should I seal them? Is there a sealer that won't alter the look of the brick? I would like to avoid the "glossy" look.

Thanks,
Theresa

I haven't heard that brick needs to be sealed, so I'm curious to see if someone knows the answer for sure.

My assumption is that it does not, since it's traditionally one of the low maintenance building materials.

I removed paint from brick in my condo kitchen using Peel Away, then used a brush to wash, and sealed with linseed oil. I applied it once and in 11 years did not do anything more to the brick. It looked great.
